| As most of you know, Sailor Moon is making a come back in the U.S. The reprints are finally arriving, merchendise (albiet few) is popping up and generally a lot more people are being introduced to what was generally a fandom loved by those of us who knew of Sailor Moon from the past. Sailor Moon really had lost that direct media attention. However, things are different. And of course, fans have to suffer the consequences of the splotlight being focused so directly upon Sailor Moon.
YouTube used to be an excellent source of media for those who did not or were not able to download the episodes. Sailor Moon is such a large anime series and I really do not have the space to download all of the episodes. Sometimes, quite frankly, I just want to watch it online or perhaps compare the dub to the sub versions.
Not anymore. I went to my Sailor Moon playlist the other day and 99% of all my videos have been deleted. Perhaps the greatest travesty is that the user xtreemme27 has been removed completely. For those of you who do not know her, she had uploaded the original japanese episodes from all of the seasons in HD. It was a wonderful place to watch Sailor Moon when I did not want to dl them.
Also, I loathe the dub but I do like to watch them to see the changes compared to the sub. They are gone as well!
I hate when this occurs. And this has happened with other anime or tv shows that suddenly gained recognition. Certain music videos have also been removed. It's horrible. >_< |

| They've been doing this actively for the past year or so. I recall SassySunbeam, who had uploaded both the dub and sub onto her channel, was removed a few months ago. Thankfully, SMC fills the void for me, though I can certainly understand it being a pain for those who don't want to sit around torrenting an entire season. It's also very difficult to find episodes from SuperS (not that I'm totally heartbroken, however).
Whether it actually correlates to potential licenses being picked up is beyond my knowledge. I'd love it to be an early warning sign, so to speak, but that is still lacking a firm guarantee.
For now, we suffer---at least relative to the material to which we once had access. |

| Its sad that it has to happen, but Copyright laws are copyright laws. And technically its still copyright infringement of Toei Animation's property.
Now you know what I find to be ridiculous? Is when there is an AMV or really short 30 second clip of a show, and it gets taken down. I mean, really? Cause I'm totally making money off of that crappy AMV i uploaded years ago with your now super popular anime. ~_~ |

| Yeah i had checked just weeks ago to see if the lost eppies were there and they were, but once I got on to watch them they had disappeared. I found them on another site thankfully but it was sad to see them go! D: |

| Yah, I have noticed that episode take-downs have occurred in the past as well. I think what startled me this time was the amount of how many episodes and users were deleted in what seems like the same moment. It was quite shocking. >_<
And you are completely right, B-chan! I always find it ridiculous to delete a 30 second clip, as if it is insanely ripping off of copyright or what have you. Goodness. Or music videos. That just drives me bonkers because they are not things that you can just find some where else. |

| This is tremendously depressing. xtreemme27 was the channel I watch all my Sailor Moon subs at. D8 I do seriously hope this might mean it gets picked up for a redub, though. If that happens I won't be so upset about having a harder time finding episodes online. XD |

That's the second time you've mentioned that. I do not think that a redub will happen though. I do not think I've ever heard of a company redubbing something they've already done. Hopefully xtreemme27 will come up with another account and re-upload them. Unlikely but ... |

| you know what's really annoying? Is when youtube mutes an amv due the song's copyright infringement laws. I never understood what the big deal because to me it's like listening to a radio. If it wasn't for amvs I would have never been introduce to so many songs and artists. |

It's a bit confusing as to why they mute the sound, but I imagine it has something to do with not having the artist's consent to use the music. I can't imagine it's anything else. On a bit of a side note, the most ridiculous claim to copyright infringement has to be when people upload game play of video games. It's practically free advertising, yet several companies make copyright claims. Weird. |

The same should go for parodies. |

| I use YouTube to listen to songs before buying them, and have found several musicians I buy from through it. They've MADE money from fans uploading videos; at least 2 of the bands I now listen to I found via people posting links to YouTube vids... I can understand deleting episodes, but culling AMV's and music videos doesn't make much sense- it's free publicity. :S |

I totally agree with you, SailorStarWind. If it wasn't for amvs I wouldn't have the half of the songs that are in my Ipods. |

| Since Toei appears to be the party making the copyright claims, does it maybe mean that there could be new animated Sailor Moon material in the near future? And they're doing clean up in preparation for that?
Who knows. I agree that it's majorly dumb to pull channels on YT just for copyright infringement. I think most copyright laws are outdated. Boo. I hope they don't come after my channel next >___> |

| I've heard that if someone loses their YouTube account after the YouTube/Google merger, that they also lose their Google account, including their GMAIL.. Does anyone know if this is true? If any of you have accounts tied to email that might come under scrutiny, it might be best to self-police before losing your accounts. I hate to say this, but getting back something Google removes is like pulling taffy, and it's easier to contact aliens than get through to their support staff- assuming that they even HAVE support staff (I was never able to get through to them when I had problems with some of their software a year or two ago- and I'm pretty tech-saavy.) |

It's funny that you mentioned that, because that was my first thought as well. SM has been on youtube for a while -- why yank so many users now? I would back up all your vids to a separate account though, just in case they do. :S And StarWind -- I do hope that you are wrong. I would devastated to lose my gmail account. I have so many files stored there! A lot of school stuff. Gyahhhh. |

I hope they don't come after my channel next >___> Sometimes these corporate claims can come in waves. I recall two years ago Colgate going after videos which had a promotional dental animation known as "Dr. Rabbit's World Tour." If there was even a whiff of the material in a video, it would be removed. Eventually, though, YouTube stopped removing such videos, so it makes me wonder what drives YouTube's vigilance. |

Oh so much for this part. Practically all of the sites that had quality episodes, either have them in incomplete pieces, low quality, or dub only lately. I would definitely buy a boxset of the series. |
