Eeerrrr Eeeeerrrrr Eeerrrr EeerrrrReaching over to the bedside table Rei hit the off button on her alarm clock. Opening her eyes she groaned and thought it way too bright outside to possibly get up and out of her comfortable, dark covers.
It took a while for her sleep mind to process it but once she realized just how bright it was outside she sat bolt upright and flipped around to look at her clock.
"Eeeekkkk!!" Rei screeched like a banshee and jumped out of bed to put on some clothes. She was late for her meeting!
Thankfully enough she had been OCD enough to lay out her clothes for this important meeting the night before. She was to discuss her transfer to a prestigious private college in the US with the Head School Administrator today and she just knew that if she were late to this meeting she would never get over there. Tardiness was one of his pet peeves.
Rushing to her bathroom she brushed the snarls out of her long hair and put on a small amount of makeup to cover up the bags under her eyes.
She ran out the door, schoolbag in hand, and bolted out into the street. It was no use trying to get there by bus. It would take far too long and she needed quick transportation. So she would hail a taxi cab instead.
Raising her hand and waving like she was flagging down a school friend, she tried to get the attention of the taxi's that were whooshing by her. But no such luck. No one would stop for her. She was about to give up hope until she heard a car honk behind her and she turned to find a friendly looking man in a taxi waiting by the curb.
"Need a lift?!" He yelled. Rei nodded vigorously from her relief and ran to the taxi. She gave him the address and they were off, swerving through the herds of traffic like a snake.
As the man drove he asked her questions. "What's your rush?", "What university do you wanna attend?", "What do you plan to study?", and other questions. Rei answered them all openly and as they pulled up in front of her school she said, "Thank you so much. You pretty much saved my career."
"Ah, it was no trouble. But I would like you to do a favor in return for me though."
Rei was hesitant. "What do you want me to do?" she asked through harshly cut eyes.
The man paused. After a moment he pulled out his wallet and took out a picture. It was of a young girl, about Rei's age. She was smiling back at the camera and hugging a man sitting next to her. It was the taxi driver.
"This was my daughter. She used to be bright and full of life like you are. Then she got in bad with drugs and when I asked her about it she said she did it to fit in and be cool like the famous people. She died from those very drugs about 4 years ago." He looked up at Rei with sad, pleading eyes.
"When you become rich and famous I want you to remember this day. I want you to remember my daughter, and I want you to vow to be a better role model for young girls than most of the stars out there."
Rei was shocked, but touched at the same time. Reaching out she put her hand over the mans and whispered, "I promise."
Reaching into her purse for the money the taxi driver stopped her. "No charge. As long as you do what I asked." Nodding she closed her bag. She stepped out of the cab and as he drove off into traffic she checked her watch. She was right on time.
She walked across campus to the Administrative Building. Checking in with the receptionist for her appointment she waited until the Dean came to get her. When they arrived at his office he opened the door for her and invited her to come in. Inside the room were was another man, who was wearing a uniform with her desired college's emblem on it.
She took a deep breath. This was her chance to shine and prove that she was a good student and would do nothing less than thrive.
Taking her first step inside the room, she knew she had also just taken her first step to a brighter future.
