Stretch back into your childhood as best you can and see if you can
remember the first five NES titles you've ever played, or just the first
five NES games you played in general at any age. Growing up I didn't
have my own console until the late 90's so I mostly played on my
brother's consoles. The first two gaming systems he had while I was real
little was the Nintendo Entertainment System and the Sega Genesis
(known as the Sega Megadrive outside of the US). This thread is
dedicated to the NES but I'll probably make one for the Sega later on.


Like
most kids growing up in the 80s and early 90s, the first game I ever
remember playing was Super Mario Brothers. We had the double pack
cartridge that had Duck Hunts on it as well. I have fond, albeit vague,
memories of playing both games. Running around as a little red plumber
(of course I didn't understand what little there was of a plot, and I
didn't care) collecting coins and stomping on everything I saw. And then
hunting ducks with the Nintendo Zapper. Little did I know that this
would only be the beginning of a long life of gaming.


Karate
Champ is a game I used to play with my brother. It wasn't anything
amazing, you just had two guys who knew karate with a sensei in-between
and fought in a couple of different stages. From what I've seen the
arcade version of the game is miles better, but while the controls
weren't the greatest on the NES port I still had fun playing with my
brother. I was always the guy in the red (second player, since I was the
youngest) but that's cool with me. Red is cool.


We're going to need a bigger NES.

Jaws
was the game I remember playing after Karate Chop. I never saw the
movie and at that point I didn't know it was based off a movie, I just
thought it was a game about a shark. I also used to think that the guy
you played was a fish. Either from the visuals or just having lousy
eyesight. But I thought you played a ship, that turned into a fish, that
fought a shark. (What was I on?). I never had any idea what I was
supposed to do to win, but it was just a fun game where my imagination
obviously felt that it could run free so for that I thank it.


Another
game I used to play with my brother. Like Jaws I had no idea this was
based off a movie, so a lot of the criticism it got for being poorly
based on the movie never occurred to me because of that fact. I honestly
enjoyed the game, I thought it was a fun experience and it's probably
best co-op IMO. So if you have it and have a friend or someone over I'd
recommend at least giving it a try. I was able to enjoy it without
having any prior knowledge to who Freddy Kruger was so I don't see why
someone else couldn't.


The
Uncanny X-Men. I was (and still am) a big X-Men fan growing up and so
was my brother, so naturally we played this game together a lot. I would
always either play as Wolverine, Cyclops or Nightcrawler. Because they
were among my favorite X-Men (and sadly Gambit wasn't in it). It's
pretty mediocre as far as X-Men games and games in general go but back
then I didn't have anything better. So if you wanted to play some X-Men
that was the game to play. I don't think it'd be until X-Men 2 Clone
Wars for the Sega that I wouldn't be able to go back.

My dad used to play Dr. Mario all the time. I was never any good at it myself, but he was always able to beat it and watch the ending. Though I'm not sure where the UFO and the aliens came in, or even if that was the same game...

Sailor Moon Another Story.

That a SNES game.

The Nintendo game system I had as a child actually belonged to my mother. I was so sad the day that she threw it out, because it worked for a damn good five minutes. So yeah, I never got very far in any game, because it wouldn't work for much longer than five minutes.

I know we had more games than just Super Mario and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but those are the only two I remember. Actually, that may have been the only games we owned, because I don't think my mom played anything besides Super Mario and I was a huge TMNT nut. I didn't really learn about video games until my step-brothers moved in around N64/Playstation 1 era. And oh boy, did we amass quite the collection of video games once they moved in. ^.^

Oh man, I love that TMNT game so much.

My first NES games were the first three Mario games, Duck Hunt, The Legend of Zelda and Zelda II. I have Zelda II on the GBA too but to this day I still can't beat it because it's so hard. Why are all the Ninja Turtle's headbands one color on that cartridge art?

The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles all wore red headbands. The colors weren't introduced until the TV show so kids could differentiate them easier. I'm guessing the cartridge art is just a nod to the original since the gameplay itself all has them colored like they are on the TV show.

DUDE my mom got me one for my birthday but it doesn't work

4. NES Open tournament golf... My dad played it hahaha and even though I was like six when we had it, I guess I just saw my dad playing it and thought it looked fun :p It was like Mario and Luigi playing golf or something

I didn't own my own, but my brother let me play his and I typically played Mario, Donkey Kong and Street Fighter I think. My brother was a huge gamer, I've been trying to get back into gaming^^ in fact I've been downloading roms and emulators like mad!

We have that! But something happened to the stand....

We are much like you, however we have yet to get a 3DS, or the Wii U, our super gaming days are starting to fade out. I doubt we'll end up with a Wii U, but the 3DS is a possibility.

So... I can't remember the first FIVE games I played, but I can definitely tell you the first four.

1. Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt/I think our copy had some sports game on it too
2. SMB 2
3. SMB 3
4. Legend of Zelda

There probably was a fifth game, but that was so long ago. My parents were divorced, and my dad had the NES, which he eventually trashed (which my hubby said could have been saved with a good cleaning courtesy of Nintendo at the time), and my mom eventually got my brother and I a Sega Genesis. I have more memories of playing with that, and the SNES that my brother's friend had.

I never had an SNES to be honest. Aside from the PC, which in my childhood was windows 95, 98 and XP, I didn't get my first videogame system, a Gameboy Advance SP untill 2003-2004. I later played SNES games around 2012 via emulator.

Those games were all mosty sailor moon based. The fan-translated version of sailor moon R fighting game, sailor moon another story and magic knight rayearth, and a bit of secret of mana. No particular order, since I downloaded them and was swapping between all 4 at once haha.
