I am literally rewatching Sailor Moon S this week, and just watched the one with Viluy.

Somehow, she instantly was able to figure out who the sailors were after meeting a few of them in civilian form (Mercury, Uranus, Neptune). First of all, how was she able to do that when no other villain in the ENTIRE series could.

Also, was this only in the dubbed version? I am too lazy to read subtitles this week so maybe its a change made by the american writers.

Vilyui did not know in the Japanese, she regarded Ami, Haruka and Michiru as suspicious individuals because they were sneaking around places that were offlimits. Vilyui revealed herself and attacked them knowing that if they were Sailor Soldiers or anything they would have to transform to defend themselves. Ami transformed into Sailor Mercury in front of Vilyui, but even then Vilyui expressed surprise.

Vilyui is also implied to be one of the show's most intelligent characters, even if she was a one-off, however as a trade-off for that, Vilyui is written with no empathy or compassion, a very interesting character indeed.

So yup just a change in versions, try to keep the dub and sub separate, there are waaay too many subtleties in changes like this they really stops them from being the same show. I personally regard them as two different things.

I couldn't remember the subbed version. I know that they are generally different things but I was just curious if they were similar in this case.

Even without figuring this out, she is still my fav of all the witches 5 and a seriously interesting character.
