The Inners' deaths in 45 were really sad :C Each senshi gets a great death scene, but I think my favorite was Mars'- in fact, it was her death scene that made her my favorite character. It wasn't until then that I realized how close she and Usagi were. It makes it worse that right before the fight she was like "It's ok, I won't die I promise C:"

The last few minutes of Episode 46 definitely count, but I always cry the most at Mamoru's death :C (but that is most likely the product of my known Mamo bias).



This exchange is really cheesy but it's pretty much where I always start to really BAWWWW.

I was thinking about it when saying "the death scenes" - Mercury's was especially heartbreaking for me.
And I love this exchange between Usagi and Mamoru even if it sounds cheesy ; Usagi saying "no you're the one I want" just before Mamoru dies is... baaaaw.

That, with the Mamoru scene above and the Starlights getting Princess Kakyuu back... I sob with joy every time. Not sad, but it makes me cry!

Omg, I personally found ALL OF THE ABOVE SCENES SAD. Only because I got so freaking attached to Sailor Moon when I was little. D: And also, rewatching the break up scene, and just episodes in stars while going through a break up of your own really makes you cry.

However, once I read what Mars said, I snorted my drink out through my nose, rolled around a bit in my bed, and couldn't stop laughingggggg. XDDDD omggg.

I didn't cry that much in the death scenes I cried more when Usagi was crying in the booth during the break up episode!

I remember the others that made me sad/cry or made a real chill go down my spine.

Other then the Stars scene with Neptune and Uranus, I think their Talisman being taken was upsetting with the way Uranus displayed it.

Another was the one mentioned about Usagi in the battle scene of S it was bone chilling with Usagi wanting to fight so bad with Saturn.

Another I think was chilling was when Usagi's dream mirror was shattered in Super S.

The break up part of the arc will forever make me cry because I too went through a break up when I began to re-watch it. I couldn't help myself and anytime Rei-Chan dies I begin to hysterically ball.

Yes, yes, yes! I always thought that that was a very dramatic moment. The animation in that episode was beautiful too and so was the violin music that played when Usagi's mirror was shattered. (Me being my angsty self, I thought it would have been even better if Mamoru had been there to see Usagi "die." Gyah. )

I actually felt pretty sad when watching Viluy's nanobots eat her to death. The violin music certainly didn't help, but there's something about someone's beloved creation turning on them that gets me every time.

Also, that's just a really nasty way to go. D:

Uranus and Neptune's death in Stars, hands down for me. Maybe it's just 'cause Stars is the recent I've watched (and the fact there are plenty of Stars related Myu's that' i've watched lately) but the whole "I want to touch you..." Omg I was nearly bawling D: Michiruuu and Harukaaa. They get to me. Especially when they die.



I mean all the death scenes were sad but this was the saddest to me. The music does not help.

Okay a few scenes.. First when the scouts die in season 1. Also, in the break up scene in the second season. Forgot who said it but the person who mentioned how she apologized to her mother... Well that also got me as well. Lastly, in the last season episode 194 when Usagi is with Seiya and she's crying and it's raining. I have cried so hard during all of those scenes.

Some mentioned the Nehellenia arc, and I agree that it was a tear jerker. You as the viewer didn't have a moment to breathe, but that was a good thing given that SuperS comprised one too many filler episodes. With the possession of Mamoru, Nehellenia's labyrinth, the capture of the Sailor Soldiers, and Usagi's struggle against near impossible odds, the whole story became uncharacteristically gritty in a way which brought out some of the best material, I think. It all begins with Chibiusa begging Mamoru to awaken:



Nehellenia quickly reinforces her power to maintain her spell on Mamoru. Desperate, Saturn sees no other option other than to bring her Glaive down to put an end to the nightmare. She is about destroy herself to prevent Nehellenia from achieving her victory, but Chibiusa intervenes:






Wait: if this didn't happen to crack the ice in your veins, then came the long-awaited arrival of Usagi. She discovers Chibiusa lying on the ground, gradually fading from existence...






Then the coup de grace, so to speak...






I had actually forgotten how emotional that scene was until I re-watched it to get the numerous screen caps posted here. There was definitely a knot in my throat as Usagi and Chibiusa had their parting moment. What helps bring it home is the fact that the situation is so terribly bleak that the possibility of this being "fixed" has seemingly faded along with Chibiusa. I'm hard pressed to recall a moment as raw and dark as this one from at any other point in the series.

oh yes! I agree! The first time I saw this scene was a long time ago before you could find full episodes of SM online (and if you did, you probably still had dial up so it would take forever to download). I had downloaded this clip and just watching it out of context made me tear up, back then. Its just a heart wrenching scene.

It would be even more sad if she called Usagi mom.

I don't know if I agree. The impact is greatly enhanced by what is left unsaid: that Usagi is Chibiusa's mother makes things even more heart wrenching. Explicitly stating that fact might have actually blunted some of the dramatic edge. It would be like Chibiusa calling Mamoru "daddy" instead of "Mamo-chan." It doesn't need restating.

When Usagi forgives Nehelenia... that placed a lump in my throat and made me tear up.

For me nothing beats seeing Prince Endymion and Princess Serenity being murdered by Metalia. The entire collapse of the Silver Millennium by makes my heart bleed.

so, I've only read the second page here, because I'm a lazy butt, but I'm sure the scene with Usagi and Seiya on the rooftop was mentioned somewhere. I always get tears, every time. Admitting a weakness always makes me cry, and it made it even worse to see my idol in so much pain because she wasn't as strong as she was pretending to be. Gah. Just the whole scene. The rose, her losing it and just sobbing and sobbing... ... and then Seiya's all like "Am I not good enough?" and I go 'SHUT UP SEIYA! THIS IS NOT YOUR TIME TO SHINE! >[ I know you just want what's best for her but she... she just broke in front of you, admitting something in front of you that she hasn't even admitted to her best friends and guardians. And even if you are just thinking of what's best for her (which was to break up with an apparently neglective fiance), just shut up and let her grieve. >['

When it comes to me and the saddest part of the anime, believe it or not, belongs to the 'S' season. Everytime I watch it, I end up becoming tearful and that is with or without audio. For me, the animation was drawn so well and the details that reflected Sailor Moon's emotion that this will always be my favorite and my saddest scene:

To be honest, the death scenes are always tragic to me. When the Inners died in Classic. Uranus and Neptune's and Chibimoon's are heartbreaking and I can't help to get a little tear-y.

Other scene I cry at is the very end of the R movie, when Fiore gives Mamoru the flower of life filled with his energy to save Sailor Moon and then he kisses her and she wakes up and says 'Mamo-chan, girls, I told you I would protect everyone' and then Mamoru, Rei, Ami, Mako and Mina start crying -they've holding up their tears so far- overwhelmed with happiness and relief and then Moon Revenge starts playing.

This part is so emotional, so strong and so very well made is hard not to empathyse with these people's feelings. I mean, they thought they had lost what they love and cherish the most, but there she was, smiling weakly and saying she always knew everything was going to work out.

Nephrite dying in Naru's arms. That was pretty sad for me, even as a little kid watching it (because I never saw the other three seasons until recently), even my little brother was sad. We both sat there at breakfast time feeling sad.

Because I really like that pairing, Nephrite and Naru. Too bad it didn't last.
