It's okay, I forgive you. ;D And that's really strange. You would think that they would choose one or the other for consistency's sake. Oh well. Lol, thanks!

I grew up with the Latin American dub, which was made in Mexico for the the region. It's usually called the 'Mexican' dub to separate it from the Spanish dub (as in, the one made in Spain)
For the first two seasons, the dub picked everything up from the English dub. So we had a Serena (as in Seh-reh-nah), a Darien, a Negaverso,a Rini, a whole team of Sailor Scouts and blah blah. A funny thing happened with Sailor Pluto, since they changed her name into Sailor Plut, for no real reason, maybe they didn't want people to confuse her with Mickey Mouse's dog, I don't know However, it aired all episodes and mostly censorship-free, except for the fact that Zoicite was made into a girl.
After the second season, the dub director resigned and Usagi's (sorry, Serena's) actress, Patricia Acevedo, took over... And she was one heck of a moonie
From S to Stars the dub was faithful to the original, Haruka and Michiru were kept as a couple and their Japanese names were kept as well, all the innuendos were pretty much kept and fandom rejoice.
Now, about the voice actors. Serena had a squeaky voice, but Mina's was the squeakiest. Lita's voice was kind of old, in my opinion and Darien sounds nice (he got two voice actors, and both of them usually dub the male lead of Brazilian soapoperas, so yeah...) And there's something so BAMF-y about Haruka's voice...
The Three Lights had male voice actors, and once they transformed they got female voices.
The opening was a literal translation of Moonlight Densetsu sung by Molly and Hotaru's voice actress.
This also counts for the ending, which is pretty much Heart Moving in Spanish. As a matter of fact, I kinda prefer it over the original
By the way, Patty Acevedo is a hardcore Usagi/Mamoru fan.

Well, I was going to talk about the Latin American dub, but Amaranta did a really really good job
just a few things: the stars opening wasn't translated, but there's a fandubbed version made by a chilean VA: Jessica Toledo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfjPA6a_XFw
there's a common mistake that the actress who sings the opening is the same one that voices Molly and Hotaru (Cristina Camargo) when really the opening singer is Marisa de Lille

As a swede, I will now present the swedish dub that I watched when I was young
A very important fact to keep in mind: We only got the first 88 episodes. Meaning no Neptune, Uranus, Hotaru, Nehelenia, Galaxia etc. But we got the original music! Even if they sang the songs in swedish.
First of I would like to say that the Swedish dub actually is way better than the English one, but far worse than the original. Here is a list of the more "important" changes the Swedish editors made when they dubbed Sailor Moon.
* Zoisite was changed into a female, the one who made the dub still claims that it was a mistake, he did not understand that Zoisite was a man.
* The Swedish dub was a bit "kinder" than the original, but not much.
* They (of course) changed everyones voices into swedish ones.
* They kept the original songs, but made their own lyrics for them.
Example: Here is the original and the Swedish "version" of the first ending song (Heart Moving) translated into english. You will notice that the swedish one is very different from the original.
Japanese original (Translated into english). In my dreams, we were together, protected by the stars.
When we were friends, we would just talk casually, without even worrying about it, but there were moments when you were all that was on my mind. I want to be prettier, right now.
When I fall in love, something changes I close my eyes, and make sure of it. I hugged you, and my hard pounded I want to share that feeling with you.
Swedish version (Translated into english by me). Sailor Moon, my friend, the destiny is hidden, no one can see what is awaiting you. It is written in the stars.
Sometimes reality can be, pretty hard and harsh, for a fourteen year old girl, because she is so young. Then the dream of eternal love, hidden behind the moon in the light of the stars gives her some consolation and courage, maybe he is real, the love of her dreams?
In the moonlight, there is hope and calmness, but you do not dare to trust love yet.
Sailor Moon, my friend, the destiny is hidden, no one can see what is awaiting you. It is written in the stars.
A pretty big difference, right? But it is still the same melody as the original.
Tuxedo Kamen -> Maskerade Rosen (The Masked Rose).
The other names are pretty much just the same as the japanese ones, but they pronounce them in a different way.
But there is one name that they screwed up: Sailor V. How can you screw up a name simple as "Sailor V", well that is easy. They thought that the "V" was supposed to be a Roman number (V = 5) so they called "Sailor V" for "Sailor Fem" (Fem = Five in swedish). They did never realise it either....
The names of the attacks and transformations are pretty much the same, nothing to get upset about.
As I already have told, they kept the original music, but changed the lyrics. The swedish version of "Heart Moving" is, if you ask me, actually pretty good Swedish Heart Moving -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12jVHpwtRRA
The first (and only) swedish opening (Moonlight Densetsu) was not as good as "Heart Moving", because it was changed to fit a much younger audience. But it is still okay. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2tQKejS9Fo
Swedish version (Translated into english by me). A little girl with very long pigtails, around fourteen years old and pretty cute. But if she falls down on her little backside, you can be sure that she will cry. But then, one day, she meets the mysteries in the cold night of the universe. She becomes a fighter, yes a heroine, and gets to know a wonderful cat.
A destiny that she can not comprehend, and she does not know how it will end.
A little girl with very long pigtails, around fourteen years old and pretty cute. That now must fight the servants of evil, how will it end? How will it end? Just the stars knows the answer: How it will end, how it will end!
As you can tell, the lyrics are pretty silly. But I think that the singer (Anneli Berg) does a great job singing it!
Well, that is the swedish version of Sailor Moon. Better then the english one, but not as good as the original

Oh I like the lyrics for the Swedish opening. Its very cute. xD "if she falls down on her little backside, you can be sure that she will cry" Also the singing was good. As much as I love the english dub theme song, I wish we had at least gotten an english version of Moonlight Densetsu.

Oh my gosh... I've heard Yaten's Portuguese voice earlier(I feel sorry for her ) , but now I think that Haruka's French voices are as horrible >___<__< as a HUGE Haruka and Michiru fan, I am pissed off... But we cannot really do anything about it so everything I can say is: Luckily their Japanese voices suit them ^__^!

Hahahahahahahaha I can't stop laughing at Portuguese Yaten. That's so bad. And here I thought the U.S. did a horrible job with Sailor Moon.
Also, I enjoy Tuxedo Kamen being called Maskerade Rosen or The Masked Rose. That's not a bad name. ^^

Okay, so you've met the European Portuguese version(and sorry, but NAVEGANTES DA LUA, seriously?)
now... let's go to the Brazilian Portuguese version =)
Here in Brazil, we had 2 dubs. The first one(just for classic) was done in 1996 and it was with this that the anime became popular and achieved any success. But in the year 2000, their voices were ALL changed(from r to the end =/). Like, litereally all of them.
And because of that, the characters personalities' were changed. Like Makoto having a kid voice or Mamoru losing all that Clark Gable's style he had with the first voice. The second dub also screwed up big time by saying they were ALL Sailor Moons. so, the speech would go like "I'm a Sailor Moon and I'm gonna... (yadda yadda yadda), I'm Sailor Mars!" I mean, make up your mind, woman! You CAN'T be a Sailor Moon AND a Sailor Mars. Okay, so the first dub still screwed up sometimes(like giving Mamoru and Tuxedo Kamen two different voices up til episode 7 or so), but most of them were to blame the mexican masters(after all, here in Brazil, Zyocite is a woman!)
And, yes the second dub had it's win moments, like when casting Seiya, he was perfect for the character.
Well, without further delays... THE VIDEOS!
Classic(1st dub):
Opening:
Moon Prism Power:
Mercury Power:
Mars Power:
Jupiter Power:
Venus Power:
Moon Tiara:
Shabon Spray:
Mars Fire:
Supreme Thunder:
Crescent Beam:
For Mamoru's voice(from episode 1):
Now... for the 2nd dub:
Opening:
Moon Prism Power:
Mercury Power:
Mars Power:
Jupiter Power:
Venus Power:
Moon Tiara:
Shabon Spray:
Mars Fire:
Supreme Thunder:
Crescent Beam:
For Mamoru's voice(from episode 200):
Okay, that was a lot of work!
About the names: Usagi is Serena Mamoru is Darien Ami is Amy Rei is Raye Makoto is Lita Minako is Mina Luna is Lua(which is Moon in portuguese) Artemis is Artemis

Oh my god, this is great. I've seen clips from different dubs and I would have to say that my favorite dub would be the German.
But here's what I have to say about the French dub -The French dub opening is horrible! xD -It's CRAZY that 3 women and a man were able to dub all of the characters -I can understand the name changes. Even though, some of the names are ugly. LOL -I actually like the transformation scenes especially when they say "transforme-moi." -As for Michiru and Haruka, if they weren't cousins then what were they? I think they should have left Haruka with a female's voice instead of male's voice.
Thanks for this topic Sailor Night it's probably my favorite thread so far .^_^.V
OMG This topic is so old but I just couldn't resist. I agree with all of what Roro said there about the French version. XD I also have to say the first time I heard ''Bourdu'' I wasn't sure if I was hearing well. I never heard such a name LOL Plus his voice, my father's sounds younger LMAO
I'm quite happy I grew up with the english version XD
