Looks like we will be reading Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire

Warning: This is a book for adults and will cover sensitive topics, such as sex and sexual activity. It is very different from the Broadway musical. I would suggest flipping through the book, first. Here is a Google Books preview of this month's selection. This book will, without question, push the PG-13 limit. It is also 400 pages. I've tried to provide several warnings throughout this process, so hopefully ya'll heeded them and did research before choosing this title.

This book has been out for several years, so you should be able to find a cheap copy at a local used bookstore or your local library. If you don't mind paying shipping, then of course Amazon and Half-Price Books has this available. Go for an older edition, because the only thing that is changing is the cover art. Lol.

If at any time you believe that this book does not comply with the PG-13 rating (which I didn't notice until several days after I put up the poll -.-), then we will choose the next highest voted book (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, which you should be able to find for dirt cheap or free).

What will the rules be about discussing the religious and political themes in Wicked? Isn't discussing religion and politics against forum rules? So how would we handle that? Wicked is a very political book too.

We can discuss them without debating them.

There are also other things we can discuss first. I think some versions of Wicked even have a book club discussion list in the back.

Well, I'll pick out some discussion questions for us about a week before September 29th.

My edition of Wicked also comes with the book club discussion questions. It's the musical tie-in edition that has the questions in it.

Mine is a 2000 edition with the pale cover.
