- My favorite anime/manga series... is one I'm sure many here have written about. One years ago that I never would have believed to be my favorite; the one named Sailor Moon. I knew about the series for a while and thought its art style was appealing, but wasn't really able to get into it because I felt uncomfortable watching it. I deemed it "too girly".
Fast forward years later to 2018. At the urging of a good friend I decided to give the series another chance. Though at first I felt odd watching a girl-oriented anime, I slowly grew used to it and began to think "Hey, this is pretty awesome!". As the show progressed, I got more and more into it, culminating in the final arc which ended up being my favorite: Stars.
I never had so much fun watching something before until I watched Sailor Moon. Its cast and their chemistry are the most enjoyable ever, it gave me the first female characters I really adored, its commentary on the human condition spoke to my soul, but most importantly it helped me fight off my fragile masculinity. I went from being scared to be interested in anything remotely "girly" to having a Sailor Moon poster hung up on my wall and being comfortable watching it with someone in person.
I love every inch of this franchise. From funny filler to epic heartfelt finales, from the titular character and her friends to the villains who oppose them. The anime, the manga, the musicals, the games. It's truly a magical franchise filled with so much life and emotion, I'm so glad I gave it a second chance. I don't cry easily, but I feel on the verge of tears right now as I conclude this essay.

| Hey, Spike, just curious: when did you really start to get into Sailor Moon the second time around? The Zoisite arc? And did you start to feel overwhelmed by the "girliness" at all again in SuperS? Just to compare experiences...

Congratulations again! I'd say around Nephrite arc I was into it. And by the time SuperS rolled around I was fully comfortable with the series, I didn't even notice an increase in "girliness" at that point. |
