Writing & Roleplaying Guild members have already been thinking about that essential November event...
NaNoWriMo What Is NaNoWriMo?NaNoWriMo stands for "
National
Novel
Writing
Month." It challenges writers to complete a
50,000 word novel from start to finish in
30 days.
Why participate in NaNoWriMo?For anyone who enjoys writing, but finds that they do not
actually finish their writing projects, NaNoWriMo can be a good experience to try and track yourself against a deadline. Writers—no matter whether they specialize in nonfiction, poetry, short stories, or novels—must
actually write if they are ever going to finish anything. It is much easier to find ways to avoid writing than it is to write. Getting used to sitting down and focusing on your writing, rather than editing or brainstorming or anything else that is writing-related but not
getting words down for your project, is useful!
Personally, I
love the
pep talks! Published authors provide their tips and tricks to keep you going during the month!
They've also been including some really helpful articles and such in their daily emails, both before November began and during November! Here are a few I particularly liked reading:
• “Jot, Bin, Pants”: An Outline Method to Get Your Writing Back on Track
• Plot Doctoring: 9 Steps to Build a Strong Plot
• How to Create a Morning Writing Routine for NaNoWriMo
• NaNo Prep: Outline Your Story Like a Subway Map
• To Research or Not to Research
• Do You Rule Your Habits or Do They Rule You?
• Escape the News Cycle and Focus (With Help from Your Guilty Pleasure Movie Characters)
• The Inspiring Reasons Why People Write
What if NaNoWriMo sounds too hard for me?It's worth
trying. If you never try, you won't know if you
could do it all along! And it's practice for next year.
Plus, it's a great experience to connect with other writers!
Here are some Basics for First-Time Wrimos!
What is a challenge?A challenge is an objective (or objectives) that a single Writing and Roleplaying Guild member strives to attain, based on the outlined criteria. This is not a competition against others—your only rival is yourself.

What counts as writing for this Challenge?Give NaNoWriMo a try! Even if you're just starting today, there's still time to catch up and achieve that 50,000 word count...
or you can modify the challenge to suit your individual writing needs, keeping in the spirit of NaNoWriMo!
How do I participate in the challenge? There are several ways to participate!
- Post in this thread with the project, NaNoWriMo or related, that you will attempt this month.
- Discuss the challenge in this thread.
- Request hints or tips from other challengers—this is not a month for feedback! Feedback later! Writing now!
How do I complete the challenge?Post in this thread with
your plans and
follow up before EOD Saturday, December 1 with your results!
Remember, participating in and completing a challenge earns points and helps you collect the super cute Writing and Roleplaying Guild Sanctioned Challenge Stamps! So, how's your novel going so far?
