November is here, and I know other Writing & Roleplaying Guild members have already been thinking about that essential November event...
NaNoWriMo

What Is NaNoWriMo?
NaNoWriMo stands for "National Novel Writing Month." It challenges writers to complete a 50,000 word novel from start to finish in 30 days.

Why participate in NaNoWriMo?
For anyone who enjoys writing, but finds that they do not actually finish their writing projects, NaNoWriMo can be a good experience to try and track yourself against a deadline. Writers—no matter whether they specialize in nonfiction, poetry, short stories, or novels—must actually write if they are ever going to finish anything. It is much easier to find ways to avoid writing than it is to write. Getting used to sitting down and focusing on your writing, rather than editing or brainstorming or anything else that is writing-related but not getting words down for your project, is useful!

Personally, I love the pep talks! Published authors provide their tips and tricks to keep you going during the month!

They've also been including some really helpful articles and such in their daily emails, both before November began and during November! Here are a few I particularly liked reading:
• “Jot, Bin, Pants”: An Outline Method to Get Your Writing Back on Track
• Plot Doctoring: 9 Steps to Build a Strong Plot
• How to Create a Morning Writing Routine for NaNoWriMo
• NaNo Prep: Outline Your Story Like a Subway Map
• To Research or Not to Research
• Do You Rule Your Habits or Do They Rule You?
• Escape the News Cycle and Focus (With Help from Your Guilty Pleasure Movie Characters)
• The Inspiring Reasons Why People Write

What if NaNoWriMo sounds too hard for me?
It's worth trying. If you never try, you won't know if you could do it all along! And it's practice for next year.
Plus, it's a great experience to connect with other writers!

Here are some Basics for First-Time Wrimos!

What is a challenge?
A challenge is an objective (or objectives) that a single Writing and Roleplaying Guild member strives to attain, based on the outlined criteria. This is not a competition against others—your only rival is yourself.
Find out more about Writing and Roleplaying Guild challenges: Guild Challenges, Contests, and Games!

What counts as writing for this Challenge?
Give NaNoWriMo a try! Even if you're just starting today, there's still time to catch up and achieve that 50,000 word count... or you can modify the challenge to suit your individual writing needs, keeping in the spirit of NaNoWriMo!

How do I participate in the challenge?
There are several ways to participate!

  • Post in this thread with the project, NaNoWriMo or related, that you will attempt this month.
  • Discuss the challenge in this thread.
  • Request hints or tips from other challengers—this is not a month for feedback! Feedback later! Writing now!

How do I complete the challenge?
Post in this thread with your plans and follow up before EOD Saturday, December 1 with your results!

Remember, participating in and completing a challenge earns points and helps you collect the super cute Writing and Roleplaying Guild Sanctioned Challenge Stamps!

I started up on Nanowrimo on the 1st and have been working on it since then (though this past Sunday left me with 0 words but I had some extras built up! xD)

I just reached the 10k mark a bit earlier, so I am happy! xD The last time I attempted Nano was in 2014 and 2013. Both times I faltered out at about 19k, so once I reach past that threshold, I will be really happy xD

Normally I would have planned out a lot prior to writing, but this year I was so swamped that I had no time for it. So I jumped in with only a small idea and I'm quite excited by how its grown already. It's kind of like an adventure and I'm just letting myself have fun exploring the idea and seeing how I can fill in those plot holes and expand the plot on the fly xDD

Good luck to everyone with their own projects! I'll be rooting for you! <3 <3 <3 Even writing a little bit is better than not writing at all!!!

Verdi I love your post!! Letting yourself get carried away with a project sounds so nice~!♥️  I can't awit to read what you write!

For Nanowrimo I will not be attempting a new project, but I will attempt to carry though with a tumblr daily writing prompt challenge with a roleplay character of mine! I'm going to also attempt to do another chapter or two of Cardinal King - I'm like... not super many from the end of that arc XD  @-@ but thanksgiving week is always a challenge for me because I'm either travelling and i don't concentrate all that well on writing when away from home, especially with family nearby to distract me or this year my in-laws might be travelling to my place hahahahahaaaaa that's not stressful BUT I'M GOING TO DO MY BEST! I'll update with a final word count to see how far I get XD rather than 50k I'm going to aim for 15k just because it's always a busy month @-@

SO TLDR:  15k!

I've done Nano before and part of me is like "eeeh.. idk if I wanna do that o myself again" but I do need help focusing and it does do that.  It's just that this month and the end of last month was nuts for me.

BUT!

Since it's still early in Nano, I think I'll do it again this year but with a current project of mine that I've stalled out on.

So Werewolf story here we go.

Awesome! These are some great plans! Verdi, I love how enthusiastic you are about it! Kyra, it's great that you've found a way to modify it so that it works for you. :D And yessss Ktenshi, come to the dark side, we have cookies and daily word goals. ;D

I'm attempting Nanowrimo again, because I love a challenge. ♥ According to the website I've given this a try in 2011 (made it to 11/16 and died), 2012 (finished!), 2013 (capsized on day 8), and then managed a good streak from 2014 onward. I really don't want 2018 to be the year I flaked out. Unfortunately, I've got a lot of stuff going on in my life right now, so I can't really devote much time. I'm squeaking out some writing whenever I've got a chance. I'm behind, but I'm hoping I can get caught up soon!

Yeeaah, I know the feeling, Merc.   I almost always stall out the moment it hits the double digits and then just.. distracted so I've never..ever. finished a Nano.  I'm not too sure I'll finish it this year either, but I look at it as:  "I'm getting further into a story I wanted to write forever."
