This doesn't seem the most reliable source-though it wouldn't surprise me if it really would take 'till next year to get the next season out.

Anyone else have any additional info on this?

Apparently the announcements at the US con where the Myu cast was didn't say anything about dates at all - just that it was confirmed to be in production. That's the latest I think. 2018 doesn't sound unreasonable though.

Yeah, as much as the fangirl inside of me want to see it right now, anime isn't made overnight. I'd rather wait a bit longer and hope the animation/production is more polished.

While Rome wasn't built in a day, it would be nice if they would at least give us a final year deadline so we know when to expect the release to happen. It kinda sucks being strung along still not knowing when it's gonna pick back up again. While some of the actors have confirmed it's in production it's just starting to feel like an abandoned project.

Eh, its no different than how they strung us along from the original SMC announcement in 2012 till the actual show came about in 2014. Though to be honest, the difference between then and now is that there is a significantly larger budget and we are now in the 25th anniversary celebration rather than the 20th. I would hope a delay in the next season is due to them actually spending time on it in comparison to how the first season was treated (an after thought).

I'm real skeptical on what we'll actually be getting but at the same time, I see other series have long spans of time between their seasons and generally its to allow for production time to produce a quality product. Let's hope its the same for SE4 (though i remain rather doubtful on that).

Whilst I'm desperate for Crystal, because you know, manga adaptation, I wouldn't mind waiting for a while. They should've done this for Season 1 and 2, because those two were pretty great, just not executed well. So, if they're going to take their time with Season 4, then I wouldn't mind it one bit, I would actually appreciate it. Dream Arc had some of the longest chapters, so it would make sense if they were split into 2 parters. Plus, Dream Arc needs justice, since 90s didn't execute it well (like Saturn's spotlight). I'm just excited to see how beautiful it would be.

well the summer season (july+) is full. and when it comes to the fall season (october+) above half the tv slots are taken already.
so yeah IF we still get it this year it's only realistic in fall

I had a dream that it was being released on February 13th. It's very odd but a little before SMC aired, I dreamt it was being aired on Netflix - of course, Hulu was closen but still lol.
