| I'll be using this thread to document my first impressions of Sailor Moon as I go along the recent DVDs! (Also, I'll be watching it via MPC-HC on my PC, since it loads the dvd more stable-y -is that a word?- than VLC)
I've currently finished the first episode, and I have to say, I'm intrigued to watch further! I wish I could label certain moments that stick with me, but failure to remember some characters's kinda makes that hard. I will keep watching, though!
FYI: the only piece of Sailor Moon-related media I've watched prior to this is this fan-crossover with MLP:FIM: Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4C8HywUFmo Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7uHghtNZyA |

| 3 Episodes in now, and im still interested, and i have 2 things to say/ask:
1. Starting to be thankful I dont suffer from epilepsy... 2. This may seem impatient, but where are the other Sailor Guardians?
Anyway, I'll make sure to carry on! |

| Yay, you started!! Lol oh early 90's animation... You just reminded me of the Polygon incident from Pokémon XD. Yes, you'll have to stick around a bit to see all five of them appear . For now, soak up the character development while you can! The manga has them appear pretty quickly but their personalities are not nearly as explored in the first arc as in the anime! Can't wait to hear more of your thoughts ^_~. |

Anyway, I'll make sure to carry on! You'll have to wait Mercury, the first Sailor Soldier doesn't show up until episode 8. Mars doesn't show up until episode 10. Jupiter not until episode 25 and Venus on episode 33. By the way are you watching the subs or dubs? |

By the way are you watching the subs or dubs? Subs. Dang it, that means i have to buy the second half to see them all! At least I gain a small victory in that Mercury's the one I'm most curious about, and I'll see her first! |

| Glad that you are watching the subs! The dub (the one you could watch from those dvds anyways) is okay but the sub is definitely the superior version.
Not sure how far into the show you're planning on watching but the next series R introduces Sailor Pluto (though she's only in like two episodes) and the following series Sailor Moon S introduces Neptune, Uranus, and Saturn |

Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4C8HywUFmo Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7uHghtNZyA OMG. I remember finding that a while back! It's actually really good for a fananimation! Some fan animations are...not so good, but the MLP fandom seems to have a lot of talented fans so there's some quality stuf. ;D And re: when the heck they show up. Yeah, the anime is much more focused on character development and is pseudo slice of life in a way, so for this boxset its just Moon, Mercury and Mars! Usagi and Ami have a cute bonding type episode where they go shopping together. ^_^ IIRC, that first boxset goes up to the end of the Nephrite arc. Sailor Jupiter shows up right after. |

| ^Sadly Viz split it up as even 23/23. So the first boxset ends at part 1 of Nephrite's two part ending. And boxset 2 starts at part 2 of Nephrite's ending. Personally, I would rather they split it 24/22 end the first set as Nephrite's - Spoiler:
death
as a mid-season finale and start box set as Jupiter's intro |

| There's a lot of things I think Viz missed the boat on still better than Dic and Cloverway and ADV. Fortunately for me I live in the US so all 200 episodes are available subtitled on Hulu.com and Viz website. I would hate only having the money to purchase the first set at the moment and ending where it ends... |

| 5 episodes now, and those overly-hairy bunny thingies might as well emit the Futurama Hypnotoad buzzing noise whenever they hypnotize their owner (if you watch Futurama, you know the one), and it's nice to see Usagi being semi-proactive now!
Edit: Also, a joke I thought up while watching compilations of angry British drivers on youtube: there would be an episode where the evil item of the week would be a car freshener that gathers energy via giving it's driver road rage, and when the roads are littered by angry, yelling drivers, a British tourist goes "Wow, the Japanese roads are much closer to home than I thought!" Won't happen, but it's still funny to think about.

| What did you think of the weight loss episode? To me that one and the episode with the Jazz composer (which you will be coming up on if you haven't already) are the best episodes before the other Sailor Guardians start showing up |

I'm kinda surprised that wasn't a nefarious Dark Kingdom plot at some point. xD - SushiRoll wrote:

A lot of people complain about the weight loss episode (sub wise) cause of how it treats weight but...I always really liked it! It had a good message littered in there even if it's done in the more Japanese "omg you can't get fat" way. Plus this is 90s japan. c'mon people! And I also agree about the Jazz composer ep, that's another favorite of mine out of the solo Usagi episodes. |

X'D. I feel like this would've been a great Jadeite plot!! (Especially if he could find a way to work himself into it in disguise.) Slyly inserts relevant TuxedoUnmasked article here... - Brit-chan wrote:

Like, as the British tourist? (Maybe he could also only be half-lying as well, as in both Britain and where he usually resides has frequent angry drivers ) Edit: 6 episodes... did Usagi just fight a vampire? ...OHH, I get it! Vampire, bats, sight via sound, ultrasonic sound... clever. |

I thought it was funny episode. Usagi going on a crash diet and then losing control and pigging out on pork buns. Thinking Motoki likes chubby girls and Luna is like “He likes chubby girls not fat girls!” and Sailor Moon about to get the hell out dodge in her fight before Luna told her she could lose weight by fighting ...only for her to gain weight. Even the DiC dub has some good lines “Have a big steak...with french fries and a chocolat malt” . |

| 8 episodes down, along with an entire disc! 1. MUH-MUH-MUH-MERCURYYYY (I already like her more than RWBY's Mercury, although that's not saying much) 2. You KNOW a show is from 1992 when a hero states that you shouldn't study via machines . If that holds up, then I might have to tell off the school I'm at

| 9 episodes ... did everyone buy from the clock store AND replace ALL of their clocks with the new ones, or can the clocks bought from there change the time of normal clocks as well?

| Hmmm that's a good question! I'd have to see the episode again. You could always try posting the question as a new topic in the SM Anime Section to see if anyone else might know! |

Good idea, but for the time being, this IS a first impressions thread, and my first impressions of episode 9 included a question! Simple as that. |

| It was suppose to only affect those who purchased a clock (and yet didn’t get Luna?) which is why Ami wasn’t under its spell.
Don’t question how apparently most of the Juban district purchased clocks there |

Fair enough, but that doesn't mean a kids show doesn't have the chance to be deep, even in shows where you don't expect it. - Spoiler:
For an example of the latter, look no further than Eddy's brother from the Ed, Edd n Eddy movie. Guy was on for barely 5 minutes and he managed to turn a main character's entire personality in a whole new, more sympathetic perspective, and this was from a show where around 85% of the cast were cruel jerks.

| 10 episodes now, and the trio is complete! Funnily enough, when I first saw Sailor Mars in the SM/MLP crossover I mentioned earlier, I assumed she was actually Sailor Uranus. Why? Because she was acting like an a**! (Ba-dum-tiss) |

| Ok, unique update. I decided to rewatch episode 10, but with the dub instead of in japanese with subs, and it doesn't seem like anything is missed out! It honestly seems like I can go with the dub without missing much, plus it's easier to watch than constantly reading text. (Also, Usagi sounds a bit deeper than I expected, but it isn't bad) Then again, this might just be that the subs correlate to the dub, but again, I don't seem to be missing much at all.
Edit: 11 episodes, and dub or not, that does not change the monster's WEIRD transformation. Also, Jadeite becoming more frustrated at his defeats? Mmm... DELICIOUS. |
