Yassss I was so stoked when I saw the news for this! I have the Shinsouban in Japanese only and a sad mix of Cantonese & English version 1 tankoubon. This is an excellent excuse for me to get a complete English set! As if I need excuses to spend money but here we are...

At least it didn't take them 10 years to translate this time xD This is great! I'm happy with my Japanese set being the "perfect" edition, but I'm glad they're translating them too. I wonder if over here we'll also get a local version since we did for the Kodansha one.

I already have the original Kodansha USA release and I'm fine with them but if the translation is an improvement, I'll double dip for it.

I'm pretty satisfied with the Kodansha translation but the perfect editions are just SO MUCH PRETTIER. They're huge, have new colored pages and are really high quality. Definitely worth the money. I personally got them as an alternative to the 90s art books because the illustrations look amazing. If you didn't get the Japanese release, I really recommend this one!

I already have the Japanese perfect edition so I really don't see the point of buying the same thing in English, especially if presumably they'll use the new Kodansha translation. :\ At this point I think I'd be more interested in a character guide or something new.

From what I understand they were going to fix errors from the first Kodansha translation. So there is that. I think that's mentioned on the Amazon listing iirc.

Ha, they're listed as Eternal Edition makes me think of the CDs from the musicals. About how big are these? My sister and I own the Kodansha translations, but if I get these, then we'd both have our own copies for when we move out... I won't order them immediately, but if I see them in a store, might have to buy. (Or might order them all once they're all released...)

I know they are larger than normal manga. I think it's A4 size? Amazon says 8.3 x 5.8 x 0.9 inches on one of the Japanese edition listings.

I wonder....is this going to be like an omnibus (a collection of all the chapters in two books)?

IIRC there's a total of 10 books for the perfect edition. I have the Japanese perfect edition that contain the Dream arc, and that was condensed from about 4 books from the original 90's tankoban edition to roughly two volumes in the perfect edition.

No, unless I've completely misunderstood, this is an English translation of the Kanzenban release of the manga, which was originally released in Japan starting 2013. Kanzenban usually means "complete" or "perfect" edition. According to Wikipedia (cause i was curious), this type of release is usually reserved for popular series like Dragon Ball or JoJo's Bizarre Adventure...and now Sailor Moon.
The volumes were released in a larger format (A5, iirc), featured new cover art and condensed the series into 10 volumes. I think paper quality is also better than normal releases. Also, I believe the volumes included even more colored pages than the shinsoban (the 2003 Japanese release that is often referred to now as the "Kodansha" release by US fans).
This is Vol. 1's cover, and you can see the rest just by searching for Sailor Moon Kanzenban. They are really pretty and all new art from Naoko!

Finally some more news on this from Osabu's appearance at Anime Expo in Los Angeles a few weeks ago!! But it's... It's kind of ridiculous XD.
From Miss Dream's report, collected from various Twitters:
Quote :
As it turns out, Osano (original editor for Sailor Moon), heard that American’s have larger hands so they’ve taken this edition and made it even larger! It still has the same number of pages and same number of colored pages as the original Japanese version. There was a production issue that caused this delay.
The size is 7 x 10 inches, which it seems is not a common size, whereas the Japanese release is standard A5 (5.8 x 8.3). Almost a full two inches more width and height!!
Pics:
From @debaoki’s Tweet: https://twitter.com/debaoki/status/1015725853135679488?s=09
Now, I don't remember if the initial pre-order listings even had the dimensions mentioned but this is... A bit shocking. I feel like A5 is a nice size. This is... Kind of a monster XD. How do you guys feel? Do you think 2 extra inches per side is really necessary or maybe his "reason" was in jest?

The size doesn't really bother me. 7 x 10 is only a little bit smaller than an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper, so that doesn't seem to bad to me. I'd have to see it in person though I've seen other special edition manga at Barnes&Noble and they seemed kind of large? Maybe around the same size?
I'm not sure what the standard size is for American comic graphic novels? This might actually align more with those books.
