I'm looking for an old Haruka/Michiru fanfic called "After the Fact". It's a first-person vignette from Haruka's point of view after having made love to Michiru for the first time and lying awake in bed next to her.

I had saved this fanfic from somewhere (might have been A Sailor Moon Romance, might not) in probably the first half of 2002. Unfortunately, I suffered a hard drive crash in July of that year, and I lost about six months' worth of stuff that I hadn't backed up (that fic included).

Yesterday, I finally got an IDE-to-USB hard drive enclosure. I hooked up my old drive, which I had kept, to it and hoped for the best. It ran (after a sputter), and all of my old files opened in windows before me.

Then I made a crucial mistake. I tried copying a bunch of directories at once instead of concentrating on the most important stuff. The drive stopped being read after around an hour, and I didn't get to copy my old Sailor Moon directory. I hadn't been able to get the drive to run since then, and I've been beating myself up over it since then (I had insomnia last night, and I've felt physically ill). I HAD IT! The fic was available for saving as of yesterday, fourteen years after I'd last read it, and I blew it!

I keep trying the drive every so often, hoping it has one more use left in it, but it's not looking good. I would really appreciate it if you could help me find it. Thank you.

I found it! Well, not found, exactly, but I managed to get my old hard drive working again, and I copied most of it to an external drive. I have "After the Fact" as well as a ton of other old, long-lost Sailor Moon fanfics (most of them probably from A Sailor Moon Romance). I'm talking a treasure trove! Oh, happy day!

However, I do plan to add these fics to my site, Forgotten Fan Fiction, probably within the next week or two. There are a lot of them! Doing a quick count, there seems to be around 70 files (some of which are multiple chapters of a single story).

Most of the files are dated mid-2000, some as late as 2001, but there's no telling when the fics themselves were written. There might be some from the earliest days of the North American fandom.

The fics will be added to be directly viewed online in their original HTML or text files, but the HTML files will be subject to having code added by the site's host, so I'll also be adding the original, unaltered files within ZIP archives, which you'll have to download, extract the files from, and view offline (and that's actually my recommended method).

In addition to Sailor Moon, there are also a bunch of very early "Enterprise" fanfics from 2001-2002, so Star Trek fans will have a lot to enjoy, too, and there's actually a bunch of early Supergirl fanfics from a shared universe/multiverse called Aurora Universe. There's probably some stuff from other fandoms as well.

I'm not sure whether to compile one huge update and hold off until it's ready or do a series of mini-updates over the course of a week or two. What say you?
