It’s no secret that Japan is pretty much obsessed with food. Each prefecture has a collection of their own special dishes or foods, and snacks are almost always given as omiyage (souvenirs). Chips, candy, and drink flavours change with the seasons, and there’s usually a limited time something to try. 

In the spirit of deliciousness, Tokyo MX created a musical anime (which for the longest time I thought was actually a TV commercial) called Gohan Kaijuu Pap. Gohan Kaijuu Pap features a Pap, a rice monster, who battles all sorts of different food. Along the way he makes friends, protects his food friends from evil starches, and even gets the girl. He does hit a minor road block where he runs out of steam, and has to recuperate by going back into the rice cooker.

You don’t need to understand Japanese to understand Pap’s charm.
