Hey guys!

So when poking around my profile settings earlier this year, I found a draft from July, 2012. A draft... of a mafia game. Sooo, this being the Anniversary, where we come together and celebrate forum history and all the fun relationships we've made here, we (the admin team) decided LET'S USE IT THAT'LL BE HILARIOUS

SO HERE IT IS!

Now~ Old Mafia game sign-ups used to be pretty much "Sign up here!" and a list of names - no descriptions, no rules, no warnings, etc., so in this sign-up thread I'm going to THROW IN THIS BLAST FROM THE PAST IN ITS ENTIRETY and then, below the spoiler, list the new rules, etc., for you.

The July 2012 Shadow Galactica Mafia Game, First Post:

Welcome to the Galaxy Cauldron’s third Mafia game. It looks like this game will be exciting and I’m glad so many people have joined in! Newbies, please feel free to ask questions of me, or look for general hints, tips, ideas and FAQ’s in our Mafia: Questions, Concerns, Idea board.

The Scenario

Quote :: The senshi are in trouble. Through a crazed twist in fate, before the Solar Senshi could return to 20th century Earth, the Galaxy Cauldron expelled them from its depths. They, along with a handful of Sailor Animates, find themselves reawakened within in the castle at Sagittarius Zero Star… and on each and every wrist is a Galaxia cuff.

The senshi must unmask those truly under the control of Sailor Galaxia, while Galaxia (disguised among them) and her new hoard of sinister senshi must defeat the good senshi so that they can retake the galaxy unchallenged. Each phase of light ends with someone being thrown into the Cauldron, and each phase of darkness has Galaxia and her allies throwing a good senshi into the depths; the game ends when one group has been completely decimated.

The Cosmos Guardian has granted two of the good senshi specific powers that would help them in their quest: one is given the power to protect any person of her choosing during the phases of darkness by enveloping them in an invisible bubble that would prevent them from falling into the cauldron. Another is able to use a special star crystal to see the alignment of any member of their group; however, she can only use the star crystal one time during each darkness phase.

The phases of light are filled with accusations as the senshi of light try to figure out who among them is truly with Galaxia, while Galaxia and her senshi try to turn the attention away from them and achieve a double-senshi defeat. Little do they know that Sailor Chaos lives within one of them, part of both teams and of neither, given the power to throw one senshi in during any darkness phase between the game’s start and finish; her goal is to escape and take root within the galaxy, and that can only be accomplished if she is the last to survive.

Will the true senshi prevail, or will Galaxia and her allies escape to rule the galaxy yet again? Or will Sailor Chaos triumph?

Pure Senshi – Townsfolk. The senshi who are good and want to save the universe from Galaxia. (And Sailor Chaos, if they knew about her). They win when their group is the only group left.
--The Messiah – Doctor Role. Chooses to protect one member during Dark Phase.
--Super Detective – Cop Role. Chooses one person to investigate during Dark Phase. May reveal findings or keep findings to self.
Sinister Senshi – Mafia. The evil senshi hiding amongst the good. Mafia boss is Galaxia, but is hidden within another person. Sinister Senshi choose one Pure Senshi to throw into the Cauldron during Night Phase. They win when their group is the only group left.
Sailor Chaos – Serial Killer. Team of one; wins by defeating everyone else. Can kill one member.

No editing or deleting posts. It looks scummy. If you made a mistake in your post, make another post pointing out your mistake.
No discussing this specific game of mafia anywhere. No discussions about the specifics of this game in other boards, in PM’s, on tumblr, or facebook, or twitter, or whatever. Nowhere. The only exception are for our mafia members, or “sinister senshi”, who are given a secret chat channel. … via their Galaxia cuffs, of course.
Bold and Red your votes AND unvotes.. Otherwise I’ll never find them and the counts will be off and it’ll get messy and unfair. Just bold and red your votes and unvotes.
Be Active. It makes the game more fun, you’re more involved, and, honestly, inactive players are more than likely killed. So play.
Lengths: Light Phases (wherein everyone discusses and lynches) will either last 72 hours or until a majority vote is reached to lynch a member. This is a Hammer Game. If a majority vote is not reached at the end of the 72 hour period, a random member will be lynched. ((Even the first time it happens. No mercy day this time.))
Dark Phases (wherein the sinister senshi/mafia votes to kill, the messiah chooses to save and the super sleuth choose whom to investigate) last 24 hours, or until all actions are turned in to me..
When someone dies: They will be allowed one “farewell” post. Farewell posts cannot reveal anything about the game.. Did you find out a mafia member before you died? Oops, too bad, you’re dead. At a member’s death I will reveal their role, alignment, and any special ability they had.
On revealing your role… Do it, or don’t do it; just know that no one will believe you. AND names don’t matter in this game. Any solar senshi could be evil, any animate could be good. Both Sailor Galaxia and Sailor Cosmos are hidden within a random senshi – they could be anyone. … So… good luck.
On roleplaying: … this is NOT a roleplay. Repeat: Not a roleplay. If you want to throw in random stuff that your assignment would say, that’s whatever. Do it, don’t do it, it doesn’t matter cause anyone could be good or evil. But, again, not a roleplay. Don’t get in character ‘cause it’s annoying to some people and this is supposed to be fun. 
Have fun. … that’s a rule. Anything that happens in Mafia stays in Mafia; accusations made in game do not reflect the feelings of one member to another member but people playing a game together. Feathers are not allowed to ruffle. The End.

Look at all those usernames! So many old members who are still around! It's exciting XD Some names have changed - for example, "Yamichan" is now "Goddess Yami", "Lovely Lexi" is now "Chillygodzilly", and "Anjyu" is "Cerechan" - and some people are less active then they were back then, but I always get a little excited looking back four years and seeing all the members then XD

OKAY SO THIS GAME'S INFORMATION:

This is a VANILLA GAME, which means it is Great for beginners and those who want to polish their mafia talents before moving on to more advanced games! If you would like to play in our Advanced Mafia game, see this thread by Kaioli!

Rule 1: Do not take the game personally.

People might get aggressive, unreasonable, controlling, bossy – all of these are tactics in order to make you vote a certain way or believe what they want you to believe. Nothing is personal, don’t take it personally.

If you feel you have been personally attacked, please try and work it out privately with the other person before bringing it to staff. If this does not work or you are uncomfortable with the situation, contact one of the moderators of this section, Starchild or Batgirl, and the issue will be addressed.

Rule 2: Be active – post at least twice per 24 hour period.

If inactivity is suspected, you will be kicked from the game and another member will take your place. You will not receive any points for participation.

You should be able to dedicate at least 20-40 minutes to the game per day. If you are unable to do this, you shouldn't be playing, or you should expect to be called out on your inactivity and have it used against you. Especially if, when you post, you don't contribute to the game.

Rule 3: This is not a roleplay. Do not roleplay. Character names are given for fun.

You get one final post after you die. This post is not allowed to contain game relevant information. Use it wisely. Your role will be revealed when you die.

Day Phase - Lynching
- Days last for a maximum of 48 hours
- Everyone votes on whom to lynch (suspected of being a mafia member)
- Lynches are made when a player receives greater than 50% of the vote.
- This is a hammer game; once a majority is reached that person is lynched and the day phase ends.
- Days without lynching may occur, depending on moderator’s wishes. This mod will allow one no-lynch day.

Night Phase - Roles
- Nights last 24 hours regardless of how soon players finish their roles.
- Mafia votes on whom to kill – they do this in a secret board and PM the mod their final choice.
- Doctors choose whom to protect by PMing the mod with that person's name (the mafia cannot kill the protected person).
- Cops choose whom to investigate by PMing the mod with the person they want to investigate's name (that person's
alignment will be returned to them).
- There can be other roles; other roles, or specifications on the above roles, will be posted
below these rules. For more information, visit this site.
- Players are NOT allowed to pressure other members to turn in roles each night. There is a
set time, and it is up to the Moderator when to end each night.

Winning
- Mafia wins if their numbers are equal to or less than townies.
- Townies win when all mafia members are dead.
- Serial Killer wins if they are the last to survive.

Breaking any of the above rules will result in expulsion from the game and disciplinary action.

Consequences of Breaking Mafia Conduct
If any player starts acting out of line (even within the normal scope of reactions to the game) it is understood that the game could be locked for a short period of time, wherein the players involved can cool off and apologize, or decide it's too intense and back away from the game. By signing up you agree to these terms and conditions, knowing that if further actions need be taken you could be banned from playing Mafia in the future.

Sure! Kinda the go-to imo is how you felt in the games we finished with earlier this season - specifically the one I moderated and the Steven Universe one. If you felt like you completely had the hang of those two games, if you felt confident in those - no questions, had a good handle on the rules, felt pretty sneaky in your overall gameplay (sneakiness = confidence in these XD), and won/almost won if it hadn't been for that pesky so-and-so, etc., then you're actually probably good to go for the Advanced game. Give the roles in that game a read, and if you think you get them - like understand the strengths and weaknesses of each role, etc., and think you could hold your own in there - jump in!

If, however, you feel like you need a bit more practice with the regular roles - mafia, townie, doctor, cop ~~and now serial killer, mwahahahhaaa~~ - before trying to handle mafia Yakuza roles, or you're still a little iffy on the rules, or didn't last too long in the other games, or needed a lot of help from your teammates, etc., in the other games, try this version!

Thanks Kyra! I think I'll go with the advanced one so I don't take away from people who are just beginning and such! I think I understand the rules just fine and can handle my own in these kind of games ^^ Thank you for the explanation! You da bestestest <3
