Look, we all love our heroes. But they wouldn't be who they are without a villain to motivate them. So, who are yours? Mine are (in no particular order):

1. Ganondorf Freakin' Dragmire (The Legend of Zelda): The Bearer of the Triforce of Power, The Prince of Darkness, the King of the Gerudos, G-Cash, whatever he's known by, he is the original Zelda baddie. Over the years he's gone from a typical evil overlaid monster dude, to an intelligent, calm, horrifying character. My favorite version is probably from The Wind Waker, because A. His design and boss fight are wonderful, and B. We actually get some development and motivation for why he's done the thing he's done.

2. Majora (The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask): Majora is easily the most terrifying Zelda villain. And it's not it's design, or creepy laugh, or that moon, though those certainly don't help. No, what makes Majora so terrifying is how downright sadistic and inhuman it is. With Ganondorf, he has a personality, and some small sense of right and wrong, however badly skewerd it is. Majora is completely amoral. All the events of the game are a game to it. It doesn't care about the lives it's ruined or the people it's killing. And this sort of villain is perfect for this game.

3. Princess Hilda (The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds): Hilda is an interesting case, in that she's likely one of the only people on this list who's redeemed herself. A few hundred years before he events of ALBW, her ancestors destroyed Lorule's (her domain) version of the Triforce, which has caused the world to slowly decay and fall apart. As a last ditch attempt, she teamed up with the evil sorcerer Yuga (also one of my faves, but this list already has too many Zelda villains) to try to get Hyrule's. Without spoiling too much more, let's say it backfires, but she gets better. One of my favorite things about Princess Hilda is that her motives are completely unselfish and pure. Everything she did was for her people and her country. She just kinda went mad with power.

4. GLaDOS (Portal & Portal 2): GLaDOS is absolutely hilarious. She's also a psychopath. Her black comedy a deadpan personality work perfectly for Portal. Her backstory is somewhat tragic as well. The long and short of it is that she was originally a human woman named Caroline. But then, her mind/personality was unloaded into a computer, instead of her boss/maybe lover Cave Johnson.
She also blames Chell for murdering her (as a computer) but that's neither here nor there.

5. The Queen (ICO): This is the second most rotten person on this list. The Queen was dying. So what did she do? Imprison her own daughter and plan to use her as a vessel to extend her life, like anyone would do! When Ico came around and freed Yorda, her daughter, she sent her shadow demon dude bros after them, who just so happened to be the souls of the dead children who Ico's people had been leaving to her as a sacrifice for her to feed off of. Yeah. Nice lady.

So those are mine.

Kuja (Final Fantasy IX): He's avillain that really has more depth when you take the time to think about it. When you compare him to the main protagonist, Zidane, you can think that really they are not so different with exception of their upbringing. Plus when he wanted to end all of existance, it was different from other villains like Kefka. He was truely afraid of his own mortality and in his vanity, believed nothing should exist without him.

Organization XIII (Kingdom Hearts: CoM + II): I'm not including games that were made after KHII:FM, but I really did like how after dealing with the villain of the first KH game, we are introduced to this mysterious organization who manipulate the hero into trying to achieve their goals. Plus, I like how each member has a different weapon, element, and strategy when fighting.

Letho (Witcher 2): What I like about Letho is that from first appearances, he comes off as some blunt, dim fighter, who's only skill is combat (and his English voice-actor certainly helps reinforce this idea). However, we soon learn that he is actually brilliant. He was able to fool the Lodge of Sorceresses into trusting him and used there resources to kill one king, then use the rebel elves to kill another king, sowing the seeds of chaos, and pin all the blame on the Lodge.

Majora's Mask (Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask): For all the reasons stated above. A being that takes pure pleasure in making others suffer. Say what you want about Ganondorf, he was just a megalomaniac. But Majora's Mask was a pure sadist. And the whole idea that it was able to take the mischievious Skull Kid, and corrupt him, adds another layer of evil to the being.

Gaunter O'Dimm (Witcher 3's DLC Heart of Stone): He seems ordinary, he's average, displays a nice personality. He makes contracts with well-crafted wording for his favor. Basically he has traits you'd expect from a skilled merchant. The catch: He can grant a person anything they wish. If it's possible, he can deliver. He can stop time, teleport, has various means in making impossible tasks possible. At first, all seems great, until the wishes goes sour. He grants you exactly what you ask for, to the letter. If it doesn't go well, he blames it on poorly worded wishes. And what does he ask in return? The wisher's soul, once all the terms of the contract are fulfilled. He can't be fought in physical confrontation because he is much more powerful than anything. The only way to defeat him is a clever battle of wits. Basically, while it is not said, he's basically what I'd view as the Devil. He doesn't want to draw people away, but draws people towards him and uses his charms to persuade a Faustian Contract. There is no way to kill him, but defeat him, and he'll never be gone forever.

I might add more later but here is what I've got so far.

Here are my favorites!

1. N (Pokemon Black and White)

2. Darkrai (Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky): Seriously, this freakin' beast makes Ghetsis look like a pussycat. Not only was he behind Dialga's descent into madness and the world almost being frozen in time, but he actually goes way out of his way to make sure the protagonists don't get in the way of his destruction of the world, via impersonating his polar opposite, putting a young child into an eternal, agonizing sleep combined with frightening nightmares that he conjured up, and makes multiple attempts to kill them...one of which is trying to convince them, keep in mind the player characters are young children, to COMMIT SUICIDE by tricking them into believing that their existence messes up the universe and space-time continuum completely due to time travel shenanigans. Seriously, this guy is a monster. Best of all? HE ALMOST SUCCEEDS IN HIS PLANS! Hawkmoth, you can learn a thing or two from Darkrai.
