This pertains more to Classic than it does Crystal or the manga, but I'm curious as to what theories people have pertaining to the various episodes where we see Saturn's mark on Hotaru's head, but where obviously it's actually Mistress 9.

What exactly was going on in the more sinister moments where Saturn appeared to shine through, but only in a more evil way?

I feel is a mixture of Sailor Saturn trying to overcome Mistress 9 but in the end that comes wrong so is like Mistress 9 has more power than Saturn hence the 'evil' side.

I agree with Luna. I think in those parts Saturn's trying to overcome or stop her but is unsuccessful in those attempts which is why she remains mistress 9.

Yeah, there are a lot of struggle moments between the two. I can't recall any specifically right now, but during re-watches I remember spotting the moments when Hotaru is trying to take back control from Mistress 9.
