Guild Contests, Challenges, and Games Writing_guild_contests_header_by_tsuki_no_kagayaki-da1b3va

Welcome to the CRAZY FUN TIME section of the Guild! We have contests, challenges, and games to get those creative juices flowing (and maybe wake up a few plot-bunnies in the process?)

There are two categories of Contests, Challenges, and Games in this section:
Sanctioned and Open

Sanctioned Contests, Challenges, and Games are run by our Writing and Roleplaying Guild Council Members, for Guild Member participation only! Winning one of these Sanctioned events earns Galaxy Cauldron Points for participating and/or winning, and guild-exclusive stamps that you can display in your signature and your Galleria; read the posts below to see what stamps you can collect! Guild Contests, Challenges, and Games Sanctioned_animated_by_tsuki_no_kagayaki-da188li

Open Contests, Challenges, and Games are run by Guild Members and are of their own creation—anyone can join! They can be as silly or as serious as the host wishes, for whatever prizes the guild member wants to give away, be it a bumper, a signature, or anything else they may come up with, like a coupon for a free drabble or a graphic for one of the winner's writing pieces! They could set up a series of reviews on another website as a prize, or auction off reading date nights~ It's whatever they want to do!

What constitutes a Contest, a Challenge, or a Game? Read the posts below to make sure you're categorizing your event the right way!

Posting Guidelines

  • Sanctioned Events will have a special [Sanctioned] tag followed by bracketed tag designating the type of event, it will state the month it is active for, and the title of the event. It may have a description stating the theme for the event. For example:
Guild Contests, Challenges, and Games Sanctioned_animated_by_tsuki_no_kagayaki-da188li[Contest] May: Cherry Blossoms Writing Contest
Description: Compete with poems celebrating the falling blossoms!

  • Guild Member-run events need to be tagged only with the type of event. For example:
[Challenge] Make Me Cry in 300 Words or Less!
    Description: A Challenge by MoonBunny4U

*Note! Some previous threads follow other guidelines; please do not use those as a reference. All new threads need to follow the above. Thanks!

A Contest is a writing competition wherein the winner will be awarded a prize for their efforts.

Open Contests need to have

  • a theme guiding the writers; it can be as broad or as precise as the host wishes
  • rules/guidelines for the contest; for example: a word limit, or a specific character perspective only, etc.
  • a written statement for how the winner will be chosen; for example, chosen by the host, or chosen via open vote
  • a statement of what the winner of the contest will receive as a prize
  • a timeline—a solid end date for when the entries are due, and when a winner will be chosen/vote opened

Sanctioned Writing and Roleplaying Guild Contests are run by Writing and Roleplaying Guild Council Members and will always have:

  1. A length limit (in word count)
  2. A PG-13 rating (this is a must for any and all Galaxy Cauldron writing and/or roleplaying activities)
  3. A theme that participants must adhere to; the theme may be broad or it may be specific; it may come with "challenge" pieces to make it more interesting, too.
  4. A requirement that entries must be newly created for the Contest
  5. A requirement that entries must be kept secret until the results of the contest is announced—Sanctioned Writing Contests are blind—the authors identities are kept secret until the voting period is over and a winner is decided. We believe this helps to even the playing field and avoids favoritism as no one would know the identity of the author.
  6. There are always two categories available: Sailor Moon Themed and Original Fiction themed; winners will be chosen for both categories, so long as the entries fit the theme.
  7. The winner of a Sanctioned Contest will receive a personalized signature that fit the theme of the challenge and will be able to pick up one of the following stamps for their current number of wins:

Guild Contests, Challenges, and Games Writing_guild_challenges_by_tsuki_no_kagayaki-da1b0bc

A Challenge is an activity that acts more like a personal goal than a contest—there is no winner, there is no voting for a winner or PMing an entry to the challenge host; instead, players just pile in the thread and reply to the challenge with their entries and critiques/responds/boosts/encourages others with their writing. Themed challenges are usually tighter than contest themes and tend to focus on one aspect of writing, or conveying a certain emotion, but there are other types of challenges, such as word-count challenges (300 words or less to convey a situation/feeling/etc.), activity challenges (for roleplayers to make a certain number of posts in a given time frame), and accountability challenges (for writers to write a certain number of words in a given time frame), besides anything else players can come up with.

Open Challenges need to clearly state the challenge; if they wish it to be timed, add in your timeline to the opening post; if you want to give participants something for participating, offer something up, but it is not required - try thinking up a challenge that people would want to test themselves against!

Sanctioned Challenges are run by Writing and Roleplaying Guild Council Members and will include:

  • Will always have a category—writing theme, accountability, activity, word-count, etc.
  • Will always outline the requirements of the challenge
  • Will always come with a timeline to adhere to in order to pick up your stamp; however, if you come across a prior challenge and want to participate, you are welcome to do so!
  • Participants will be able to claim the following stamps for participating in a number of challenges:

Guild Contests, Challenges, and Games Writing_guild_games_by_tsuki_no_kagayaki-da1b0b8

A Game is any multi-player cooperative writing activity (not roleplaying) that guild members can participate in! These are usually silly and fun and off-the wall. Examples are games like Popcorn, Thesaurus, keep-a-word drop-a-word, Rhyme Time, etc., and are just fun and cute ways to keep active with writing in between and during other projects—just to keep your mind sharp! Some of these may be playing with grammar or sentence structures, some may have specific writing prompts (more direct than challenges or contests, but still narrative style!), but either way the goal is to keep your mind sharp and amused!

Open Games need to clearly state what the game is, and hosts are expected to keep the game going by posting a lot within their own game!

Guild Contests, Challenges, and Games ZddVCXA

Sanctioned Games are run by Writing and Roleplaying Guild Council Members and will:

  • clearly state what the game is about
  • the host will keep the game rolling until the designated stop date
  • there will always be a goal for the game
  • when members reach that goal, the game will end and prize stamps may be claimed!
