Although the wall was taken down many years ago there are still pieces of it in existence. There are pieces of it in museums in Berlin. People also collected pieces of it after it's fall. There are even parts of the wall still standing.

The Berliner Dome also known as the Berlin Cathedral was completed in 1905. It is Berlin's largest and most important Protestant Church. It was first built in 1465 and has been undergoing renovations since then. It was finished in 1905, however, it was damaged during World War 2. It was closed and then reopened in 1993. It was continually restored from 1993 until 2006. It is a frequent venue for concerts and readings.

The Brandenburger Tor also known as the Brandenburger Gate, is one of Berlin's most important monuments. It was built between 1788 and 1791. It's a symbol with more that 200 years worth of history. It used to be a symbol of a divided city, people from West Berlin used to come to it to climb it and use the observational platform to see the other half of the city. After reunification, it was viewed as a symbol of unity in Berlin.

The Holocaust Memorial in Berlin is located in Mitte, where the wall once was close to the BRandenburger Tor. Inside it is also a Holocaust Museum. It is dedicated to the victims of the Nazi genocide of World War 2. It took 17 years for the memorial to be created. It was completed on May 8, 2005.

Museumsinsel, or museum island, is one of five museums on a small island in Berlin. The art in the museum are mostly from the private collection of the Prussian Royal Family. 

Here's what it looks like:

The Reichtag building was finished in 1894. It was damaged in 1933 during World War 2 and restored in 1961. It is used for parliament meetings as well as exhibitions. You can ride to the top of the building and go to the viewing terrace.

It is known as the victory column. Its a 67 Meter high symbol of victory that used to stand in front of the Reichtag. It was relocated in the Tiergarten's roundabout in 1938 by the Nazis.

It is a 160 hectare lake that is at the center of Hamburg. It's a paradise for sailors, rowers and paddlers. It is no more than 2.5 meters deep. It was made in the 13th Century by damming the Alster river and it's smaller feeder rivers.

Miniatur Wunderland is the world’s largest model train exhibit, and it is still growing. You can see trains running through recreations of Hamburg and the coast, Austria, the Grand Canyon and Scandinavia.

This is a beautiful park centered in Hamburg. Originally it was a zoological garden and then in the 1930s, it became this recreation park. The parks name is simply called plants and flowers.

The original town hall burned down in 1842. It was rebuilt in 1897 and has 647 rooms in it. There are statues of 20 emperors flanking the town hall. Written above the main hall is, "The descendants shall seek worthily to maintain the freedom achieved by their forebears."

This church was destroyed during the air raids in 1943. It is now a ruin that is a place for remembering the victims of war. The tower is the highest tower in the city.

The Marienplatz (engl: Mary's Square) is a central square in Munich downtown that was named after the Mariensäule (engl: Mary's Column) which was built in 1638.

In the Middle Ages markets and tournaments were held in this place. Today, however, it's mostly known and visited for the "Neues Rathaus", the City Hall of Munich, as well as for the several shops and restaurants that can be found on the square.



The "Neues Rathaus"

As I already mentioned above, the "Neues Rathaus" is the City Hall of Munich. The name of it is pretty simple, it can be translated to "New City Hall".
The neo-Gothic building was built from 1867 to 1909 by order of Georg von Hauberrisser, a German-Austrian architect that is also known for the City Hall in Wiesbaden, as well as for the St. Paul's Church in Munich.



The "Neues Rathaus" is used as the office of the mayor, the city council and other fractions of the council. However, it also has another use: the great hall in the "Neues Rathaus" offers a great law library that can be entered by all people. Athletes and teams get honered in that City Hall too.

Anyway, the main reason for all the tourists is the chime of the 43 bells that can be heard every day (11 AM and 12 Noon - from March to October, also at 5 PM).



It's quite...special. 

The Viktualienmarkt

The Viktualienmarkt is a great market right next to the Marienplatz. It has its own street name (called "Viktualienmarkt", obviously) and can be visited every day except on Sundays and holidays.

Many people recommend to visit this place, however, when I was there I wasn't too impressed. It has a nice atmosphere, that's for sure - however, it's mostly just food xD There's not much to see except that.



The market exists since 1807 and has an area of about 2 ha.

The name of the market can be translated to "food market". Though "Viktualien" is a pretty old word for "food".

The Frauenkirche

Also known as "Cathedral of Our Dear Lady", the Frauenkirche can be found in the center of Munich. It's a landmark and a symbol for Munich.



The Frauenkirche was constructed from red brick in the late Gothic style within only 20 years. The building is designed very plainly, without rich Gothic ornaments. It's 109 metres (358 ft) long, 40 metres (130 ft) wide, and 37 metres (121 ft) high.
Contrary to a widespread legend that says the two towers with their characteristic domes are exactly one meter different in height, they are almost equal: the north tower is 98.57 metres (323.4 ft) while the south tower is only 98.45 metres (323.0 ft).

The Allianz Arena

The Allianz Arena is a football stadium in the north of Munich with 75'000 seats and a playing surface of 105 x 68 m. It's the official stadium of FC Bayern München, the best football club in Germany, and TSV 1860 München. Also, it was used for the World Cup in 2006 as well as for the UEFA Champions League in 2012.

The special thing about the Allianz Arena is, that it changes its color for games and holidays. When FC Bayern München plays, it turns red, when TSV 1860 München plays, it turns blue, and when the German team plays, it's a neutral white.
For St. Patrick's Day it also changed to green. And this although we don't even celebrate that day.

As you can see in the thread banner, as well as on this banner, the Kölner Dom is literally the landmark of Cologne and also one of the most attractive sights in Germany. If someone would ever ask me about the most popular sight - I'd say it's the Kölner Dom.

The Kölner Dom is a Roman Catholic church and actually called the "Hohe Domkirche St. Petrus". The constructions started in the 13th century - however, it hadn't been finished until the 19th century. Yes, that's true - it took 6 centuries to build that cathedral.

But nonetheless, I think it's nothing to sneeze at. It's one of the tallest Gothic cathedrals worldwide and since 2010 it's also part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

It stands at a height of 157.38 m, has an area of 7100 m² and is only 250 m away from the Rhein, a river that passes through Germany.

From 1880 to 1884 it was even the tallest building in the world.

Yeah, you read right. The Kölner Dom isn't the only church in Cologne. Actually, you can find quite a lot of them - and many of them are as impressing as the Kölner Dom.

Twelve Romanesque churches can be found within the old city walls. And if they show one thing, then it is this: Cologne is a city of churches.Other than in other German cities, you’ll find a variety of huge Romanesque churches – and this in smallest spaces. Many of them count to the most significant churches of Western Europa, for example St. Gereon, with its impressing dome, or Groß St. Martin which had been a landmark of the historic city for centuries.

Skulpturenpark Köln

The Skulpturenpark Köln (engl.: Sculpture park of Cologne) is a park with an area of 4 ha, the ground filled with sculptures of both, German and international artists.
 


The difference to other sculpture parks is that this is meant to be a “place for the examination of contemporary cultures”. Means, there is no permanent exhibition – instead, every two years some of those sculptures get substituted by new ones.

The KölnTurm

Standing at 165.5 m, the KölnTurm is the tallest office building in Cologne (yeah, I know, it’s nothing compared to the Empire State Building ).  It was built from June 1st, 1999 to November 21st, 2001 in the Mediapark of Cologne, an industrial park in the borough “Köln-Neustadt-Nord”.



The deck and restaurant on the 30th floor are accessible for every visitor.

Population: 701'350 (fifth largest city in population Germany-wide)

Area: 248.31 km²

- Since there also is another Frankfurt ("Frankfurt an der Oder" or short: "Frankfurt/Oder"), the city is mostly called "Frankfurt am Main"

- Frankfurt is one of the most important, if not the most important financial center in Germany. It's even known in other countries because of this

- Frankfurt is mostly known for all the traffic going on there. It has one of the largest airports worldwide, one of the largest stations Germany-wide and the so-called "Frankfurter Kreuz" is the largest interchange in Germany

- Frankfurt has more skyscrapers than most other German cities

The "Museumsufer" is one of the most popular museum sites in both, Germany and Europe, and was created from 1980 to 1990. On the waterfront you can find 13 different museums, all with different things; the variety and quality of them gave the city a good reputation among art connoisseurs.

For more than 600 years now, the "Römer" (= "Roman") has been the City Hall of Frankfurt. With its distinctive step gable frontage, it's one of the landmarks and is, at the same time, one of the oldest and most beautiful City Halls in whole Germany. The three-floor pile has an area of 10'000 m² and consists of 6 different building with 6 different patios in total.

In the rooms of the "Römer" preliminary negotiations for the votings of kings and emperors took place.

The Main Tower (not like the English word "main" but like the German river "Main") is a skyscraper in downtown Frankfurt that was inaugurated on January 28th in 2000. With a height of 240 m it's the fourth tallest skyscraper in all Germany and attracts the tourists every day with it. Also, the postmodern style as well as the lifts, which are like the fastest in Germany, are quite attracting too.

Last but not least, I think it's also noteworthy that the Main Tower is a great use for Frankfurt. Offices upon offices can be found on the 56 upper floors, the top floors also used as observation decks and restaurants. But that's not all: The Main Tower is also occupied by a few radio channels.
