Niagara falls is located on the international border between Niagara Falls, New York, USA and Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. There are three waterfalls that are collectively known as "Niagara Falls". They are in order of largest to smallest the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls.
The Horseshoe Falls it the one that people really think of when they talk about Niagara Falls. It lies mostly on the Canadian side while the American one is entirely on the American side with Goat Island separating the two. Luna Island separates the American Falls from the Bridal Veil Falls.
The original international boundary line was originally drawn through the Horseshoe Falls in 1819 but the boundary has long been in dispute due to natural erosion and construction.
The falls are located on the Niagara River which drains water from Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, two of the five Great Lakes. All five of the great lakes are connected by rivers and four out of the five are in Canada with Lake Michigan, as indicated by its name, is in the state of Michigan in the USA.
They were formed at the end of the Wisconsin glaciation (the last ice age) when the glaciers receded and water from the newly formed Great Lakes carved a path through he Niagara Escarpment.
The first image is of the Whirpool in Niagara Falls and the second is the river that leads up to it. At the top, you can see there the water leaves the area from the first image. It's super hard to see in this picture, but the water was moving really fast. These were taken in February of 2013 while my Dad was up visiting. This is all part of the river that is part of the system of Niagara Falls.
Opposite side of where the above pictures were taken. Beautiful pictures I took while exploring the area with my friend and roommate. Taken September 2012 or late August 2012.
I took some more pictures as the sun set mostly of the sun, but hey, why not include them xD
During the summer, the Canadian Side of Niagara Falls has fireworks twice a week, Friday and Sundays at 10p.m. and during the winter, they usually have it once a week on Sundays as its just not as busy. Taken from Goat Island, Niagara Falls, New York, USA.
There are loads of things to do in the falls. Right across is Clifton Hill, where you can find all sort of attractions such as a Ferris wheel, food, wax museum of famous characters/movie stars, lots of casinos, an arcade, Guinness Book of World Records Museum and so much more. It runs year around although the busiest times are from May-September.

All in all, the Falls is a really fun place to come down on a hot summer night and just walk around and have some fun with a friend!
