Appearance: Sakura stands at 148 cm in the beginning, then grows to become 153 cm during the second and third season, 158 cm at the anime finale and 163 cm at the end of the manga. She has short brown hair and green eyes. Usually she wears ribbons in her hair. Sakura’s style is generally a mix between sporty and cute. She can often be seen wearing rollerblade gear like elbow and kneepads when she goes to school on her rollerblades.

Her most commonly worn outfit is her Tomoeda school uniform; a black shirt with white sailor collar that has a red stripe on it, white and red sleeve cuffs, and white pleated skirt. A sailor hat and black shoes complete the ensemble. She also can be seen wearing many of her best friend Tomoyo’s fashion creations; these are the cardcaptor outfits which can range from cute to slightly outlandish or reminiscent of certain fairy tale characters (such as the Alice in Wonderland outfit).

Personality: Sakura’s most important motto in life is “Everything will surely be alright.” This defines her view about life; optimism. No matter the trouble, she always believes that everything will surely turn out okay. That she will be able to overcome the obstacle and put things right again. She uses this mantra when she is feeling down, upset, or scared in order to help her get through difficult situations.

Overall, Sakura is a very cheerful, energetic, and happy child. She is sweet and kind, which tends to make her likable to everyone. However, she can also be naïve; she’s terrible at reading people and would often become oblivious about their true feelings—and her own, as proven by how she does not realize she has fallen in love with Syaoran until he confesses his feelings to her and she is forced to evaluate her own feelings toward him. She is also completely oblivious that her best friend harbors a crush for her that she is keeping quiet in order to put Sakura’s happiness before hers.

Sakura is also great at sports and very athletic. She rollerblades to school almost daily, and she’s also part of the cheerleading squad, an expert baton twirler, and a great runner. She is, however, really scared of ghosts and would always try to block out ghost stories when her friends are telling them. Sakura is also pretty gullible and would often fall for anything anyone tells her, including one of her friends who likes to make up interesting stories on a daily basis.

She is easy to befriend everyone, be it classmate, rival, or random strangers. It is her insistence of being kind to everyone that eventually wins Syaoran over even though he started out as her rival in collecting the cards.

Sakura doesn’t enjoy being teased by Toya, especially when he calls her a monster, so her angry side can often be seen most around him. It’s nothing more than a regular fight between brother and sister for the most part.

Any Unique Abilities/Skills: As have been mentioned before, Sakura is very athletic and could usually win at sports competitions with ease. Being the descendant of Clow Reed (in the manga), she is also able to tap into his magic and thus command the cards that he created. Eventually she could also wield her own magic that takes its power from the stars (as opposed to the sun and moon like Clow’s). Sakura also occasionally has prophetic dreams that foretells certain big events in her future such as the Final Judgment (though it took her a long time to be able to understand it). She can also detect the presence of magic, Clow Cards, spirits and ghosts.

Magical Items:

Sealing Wand: The Staff is a pink magical wand about a meter in length. Its main specialty is to allow whoever wields it and provided they have magic the ability to summon Clow Cards at will. The head of the staff is shaped like a bird’s head with red gems for eyes and a beak and tiny wings on the back of the head. It allows people with magical abilities to Seal escaped cards, activate cards, and transform the Clow Cards into Sakura Cards. The Staff originally belonged to Clow Reed, a powerful magician who put it into the Clow Book so his successor could catch the cards and use them more easily.

When not in use the staff reverts to its dormant (or key) form. This form looks just like the active form except it is scaled down to a few centimeters in size (enough to fit in the palm of ones hand) with the main shaft being gold instead of pink. It also has two small prongs thrusting out perpendicular to the main shaft at the tail end so it looks like a key. Whenever it's not being used, Sakura usually hangs it on a chain around her neck and keeps it with her at all times just in case there's trouble about. When the Staff is in its dormant form it has the power to unlock any door that has been magically sealed by the Lock and is the only known way to draw out this card's true form.


Star Wand: When Sakura captured all the cards and passed the Final Judgment, the head of the Sealing Wand changed from a bird to a yellow five pointed star inside a circle with a small feathered wing either side due to the fact that Sakura's powers came from the stars. This form retained all the powers of the old one but also gave Sakura the power to change the cards into Sakura Cards although in the beginning, it drained her of her energy, physically, emotionally and mentally, leaving her exhausted and prone to falling asleep. When Yue & Cerberus possessed the Staff it changed. The wand's main shaft grew to around three meters in length and the circle around the star head disappeared. The wing also grew in size. This form had all the abilities of the old wand’s form but had much more magical power.


Clow Cards/Sakura Cards: The Cards were created by the half-English, half-Chinese sorcerer named Clow Reed. They are the result of the combination of Eastern and Western magics and formed the basis for a new kind of magic unlike any other seen so far. To contain the incredible power of the cards, after his death Clow had the card's sealed in the Clow Book, only to be released when the "chosen one" appears. The cards represent a combination of Eastern and Western magic centered on the concepts of natural forces and elements. The original Clow Cards fall under a specific sign, sun or moon, corresponding to the guardians Keroberos and Yue. The cards can only be controlled under your command if you become it's owner. In order for it to be yours, you must sign your name, otherwise they can run loose again. The card will go to whoever binds its power, meaning the one who defeated it. In the manga series, there are 19 cards specifically named, while the anime series has 53. These cards also gain slightly different appearances in the manga when transformed into Sakura Cards. In order to use each card Sakura must use her wand upon it and call out its name. Each card can do one type of magic that corresponds to its name. For example, The Fly can give Sakura wings, The Jump can allow her to jump to great heights, The Windy can allow her to control the air element, The Firey can release fire elements, etc.

 
History: Sakura lived with her father, Fujitaka Kinomoto, and her brother, Toya Kinomoto, in Tomoeda. Her mother passes away when she was young, and she was in fourth grade when the story began. One day she went into the basement and found a book of cards. She opened it and inadvertently released the magical Clow Cards contained within. Its sleeping guardian, Keroberos, asks her to collect the cards. Because she was able to open the seal, she was revealed to have special powers in connection with Clow.

And so Sakura began her journey as the cardcaptor along with Kero as her guide and guardian. The task involved finding each card, battling its magical personification, and sealing it away. A competitor also appeared in the form of Syaoran Li, another Clow Reed descendant who wanted to become the master of the cards himself. After they both collected all the cards, came the Final Judgment to determine which of them should be the true master of the cards. The judge was Yue, one of Clow’s two guardians (the other being Kero). Sakura found out that Yue had been hiding in the body of Yukito Tsukishiro, her brother’s best friend, all this time - the two were separate entities and Yukito was completely oblivious about his other self.

Sakura eventually won the Final Judgment and became the mistress of the Clow Cards. Around that time, a mysterious new transfer student called Eriol Hiiragizawa showed up, along with new strange disturbances around Tomoeda. These disturbances prompted Sakura to use the cards in her possession. But as its new mistress, she could no longer use the Clow Cards as they were, since she was not Clow Reed and the magic left in the cards were dwindling. She had to transform them into Sakura Cards, effectively making them hers, and use them with her own magic, now Clow’s. After all the cards were transformed, it was revealed that Eriol, the reincarnation of Clow Reed, was behind all the disturbances. He created situations that allowed Sakura to use and transform her cards, because just transforming them all at once without using their magic for a specific purpose would exhaust her terribly.

Notable Relationships: Sakura once had a crush on Yukito and spent most of the story trying to impress him. Later when she confessed her feelings, Yukito explained that he was in love with Toya, her brother. Sakura also came to realize that he was not the one she liked the most after all; Yue’s magic was what drew both her and Syaoran to Yukito, which was why both of them were crushing on him when in the end they realized they were in love with each other. Sakura is also very close to Tomoyo, her best friend, the only other civilian who knew about her adventures as a cardcaptor (she never told her brother, though he knew because he had his own powers, albeit considerably weaker). Tomoyo is also her second cousin on their mother’s side. In the end, Syaoran becomes the most important person to Sakura.
 
Storyline Specific Information:
Magician’s Favour: Stronger now than she ever has been, Sakura is finally able to separate Yukito and Yue, giving them their own independent bodies, unknowingly sending huge magical shock waves through the magical community making many take notice of her; a young and powerful magician they have never sensed before, and they want that power for themselves. No longer do Yue and Yukito have to share a form. Summer drawing to an end, Sakura takes the next step in her life; college. Moving away to go to the college of her dreams was one of the hardest things she’s ever done, but is not so bad when she shares an apartment bigger than her house with Tomoyo, Kero and Yue.

However, things are not as peaceful for long. A rival magician of Clow Reed’s has caught wind of Sakura’s powers and seeks to take cards from her. She faces many perils, designed to test her and her guardian’s strength before they are transported to another word where they need to fight for their very survival.

While these tests of strengths are happening, Sakura is trying to get Yue to loosen up, to see her as a friend and not just his Mistress. She’s also getting marriage proposals from other magicians, seeking to get her power by political marriage rather than by force. Tomoyo being the ever-loving friend, tries to be as supportive as she can, silently pining away on the sidelines. Can Sakura and Yue come to an understanding and will the marriage proposals ever stop?

Sakura had no idea how her life had turned out like this. All she wanted was to have a nice, normal happy life with her best friend in their own apartment. Instead, now, she was getting marriage proposals. Marriage! She was barely eighteen, for goodness’ sake! That was way too soon, right? Besides, she didn’t know any of these people. And the last thing she wanted was marrying someone who only wanted her magical powers.

When she first took up that wand and became a cardcaptor eight years ago, Sakura never once imagined she would be as powerful as she was today. It seemed odd to think she was this… sought after magician. In her mind, she was still the old ordinary Sakura, and she realized she never even saw herself as anything else. Even in those old days, at the height of card-capturing, she never thought of herself as special; had only accepted the task because she felt responsible for releasing them in the first place and because Kero asked her to. She only wanted to help.

When she had to change the cards, she was only trying to save them. And save Tomoeda from all the troubles plaguing it. She never really stopped and thought about her powers, or how it made her different from her friends. Once all the magic business was done, and when she wasn’t dealing with the cards, she never once considered that she wasn’t just any other ordinary girl.

So it felt weird, to say the least, to have all this attention on her. “Tomoyo-chaaaan!” she rushed into their shared apartment wielding another letter asking for her hand in marriage. She was flustered just looking at it. “Help me! There are at least a dozen of these cards now, and I don’t know what to doooo! I don’t want to lose my youth and marry someone I don’t even know! You’ll help me, right?!” she begged, sure that her friend would know a way out of this mess.

Tomoyo had always been her dearest and bestest friend, after all.
