oh i JUST remembered one fanfic....again, very mature, but in pg-13 detail, it was a card captor sakura fanfic, in which mei li is a totally FEMALE DOG and wants Syaoran all to herself, so she sets Sakura up with an ex boyfriend and tons of drinks. so Sakura ends up drunk, doing stuff SHE REALLY SHOULDN'T with the ex boyfriend, which i think mei li has bribed the ex boyfriend to record.

and she shows the recording to Syaoran and his family with the volume muted, cause the entire time Sakura drunkenly thought she was with Syaoran. and he of course believes Sakura cheated on him, and breaks up with her, and blah blah..

my question is, how do you NOT question the fact that the volume is muted? or that there's even a video in the first place?! how do you not ask your girlfriend, "okay wtf is this and what happened?". no, he just believes his cousin and leaves Sakura. that's about all i remember, but it's very...grah. why?

also, found an old favorite of mine....it's so stupid hilarious that i'm not sure how or why this person thought of it, but after reading a few comments, it seems at least they made it with the intention of being stupid funny. but Joey from Yugioh is taken by his friends to a bar, gets ridiculous drunk, and falls head over heels in love with...a hot dog. i think he names it...or just calls it hot dog.

Ooooh I love those melodramatic "it was all a misunderstanding" stories! It's such an old cliche in fiction; like you'll have someone saying something super mean that only SEEMS to be about the person who loves them, and their significant other will be right behind the door or behind a cupboard or something and will be super heartbroken. And he or she will run off, tears running down "its" (to spare me the pronouns) face, maybe in the savage rain on a dark and windy night. And of course this person will probably do something stupid and be stopped in the nick of time by the one originally saying the misinterpreted stuff. Who... magically appeared there.

I always find that sort of plot-point hilarious because... really now, WHY are all of these characters eavesdropping in the first place? And if you are eavesdropping and they're talking about you, do you run off into the wilderness, or do you actually stay there until they're done talking? Because personally I'd be curious to hear the rest of it - they ARE talking about me, after all. And what's with all the melodrama? Why are all of these eavesdropping characters so weepy? I mean, if that were me, I'd probably bash that door open and start tearing the "insulter" to shreds (at least verbally). And then there would be a fight but at the end we'd probably make some sense of the misunderstanding. Of course, that WOULD cost us an angsty romantic moment in the rain (but then again it would also save us a nice case of pneumonia). 

So yeah, a lot of second-hand embarrassment with this trope: characters get cheesy and weepy and just bleh. 

And in your example, Crystalsetsuna, I love how the issue is that Syaoran's little heart is breaking... Nevermind that we're dealing with a case of rape. But hey, if the rape fuels the love drama, who am I to argue? 

EDIT: Actually, doesn't this also happen in Wuthering Heights? Or is that just one of the movie versions? I'm afraid I've been exposed to way too many versions of the story.

There was this old series of fanfiction that I used to read as a kid, that had random sailor senshi put up against other characters; and sometimes characters from other series (mostly DBZ and pokemon). It was all written in this format with numerous typos and very little descriptors and were in the LOL HAI GAIZ way. For example:

Sailor Moon: Sailor Mars! That Hurt! *pouts*

Sailor Mars: That's what you get, meatball head! *Angry eyes*

^ I just randomly typed that up, and even my half-assed example was better written then those. They were all oneshot drabbles and were part of a series, where there were always announcers as part of the characters. There were more then 50 of them.

Yeah... And Harry Potter has a twin sister who's also a "chosen one". And an American foreign exchange student moves to Tokyo and turns out to be the strongest most interesting senshi ever. Also her uniform is very complex and colored differently from the others' just "because".

Again in Tokyo Mew Mew fics. A character will break up with the main lead in a terrible way so she can go be with another character. I'm sure this happens in other fandom fics. I don't mind it so much if it's actually written well and believable. Especially since MG characters are their early teens and sometimes you don't stay with one person your whole life.

One trope I hate in Harry Potter fanfictions is Ron bashing. I see it happening so often. He's either killed off or just acts horribly OOC...or sometimes he doesn't even do anything wrong and all the other characters still somehow hate him! I also see Ginny being turned into an obsessive *censored* when that really isn't her character at all.

The worst trope to afflict MG fanfictions...

I've also tried to find some good Regular Show fanfiction or Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends Fanfiction, but they either have OCs that take away from the rest of the cast or...misplaced and poorly written romances with ships you never thought would exist. 

I don't know if I'd call it problematic, but it's extremely awkward when people write fanfiction and insert themselves into the story. Especially if it's a romance.

I hear there's an infamous 1994 Power Rangers fan fic that was well known for being grotesque, violent, and you-know-whating Kimberly Ann Hart. It was so bad it was banned in Australia for its content.

^Yeah same. Even if it's a good fanfiction, and I really want to read it to completion, there's too much diologe and not enough descriptors. It gets dull and dry really fast.

Kinda sounds like a gravity falls fanfiction that was erased off of fanfic.net that sort of became an internet joke because of it's disturbing nature.

I feel like there needs to be a good balance between dialogue and description. I've read a few stories that are just far too descriptive, where the author is writing about actions that don't need to be described.

I had no idea there were fan fics so horrible that they would get erased or banned! Why do people do that to the characters!? Haha

Well, I'd say daily actions that don't add anything to the story. For example, making the bed. A reader knows how to make a bed, so unless there's some reason or something different that the character does while making the bed, I feel that it doesn't need to be described in any sort of great detail. It's just filler.

Is it that hard to find? Because I managed to find it with just one Google search.

Since we're talking about fanfics... I know this really *beep* one.

It's a Twilight fanfic, but it's in an alternate universe where Edward is not a vampire and Kirsten--- I mean Bella, is not a high school girl. I think she's in college and he's a very rich corporatist. Her best friend has to interview this Cullen guy but she's ill so she sends Bella in her place. Bella doesn't know how to dress and act, and ends up being awkward and unprofessional during the interview. And because he's a fine gentleman, Edward most likely spends the entire interview fantasizing about the way she bites her lip when she's feeling confused (which ends up being about 80% of the fanfic). So because stalking is perfectly okay, he finds out where she works and follows her there and pretends to not be stalking her at all. And then he shows up at her school and basically just forces himself into her life, like most innocent-minded young men do. He then has to save her from the unwanted advances of Jacob, who in this AU is a stereotypical Latino dude who most likely lived in the US his whole life but still speaks so that it's clear to the reader that he's of Latin origin.

Then the whole Edward-Bella "No! I want to be with you but you must run away for your own good!" dance happens. She goes "But I want to be with you, take me into your world!". And he's like "LOL okay".

And his world ends up being all about private helicopter rides, fancy dinner parties and a room filled with M+ material that he threatens to use on Bella but rarely ever does.

Then the author got a book deal for the fanfic, but only if she changed the characters' names. So now Bella is Anna and Edward is Christian. It's also got a movie coming out soon, but I doubt you've heard of it - just a little small-budget sort of thing.

LOL, i knew i had heard of that plot somewhere before...

Yeah... Funny story about that "book". I'd been hearing a lot about it and was curious. Ahem. But I'm not one to spend a lot of money and time on something that I know has a large chance of being bad. So I decided I'd listen to the audiobook while I draw. I think I listened to about half or 3 quarters of the first book, until I could have no more. And then I deleted the thing from my PC and never thought about it again... Until about a month later when I went to my Last.FM profile and realized that the add-on had Scrobbled the fact that I had been listening to a badly written semi-M book to all of my friends (and a few strangers who added me for goodness knows what reasons).
