I know we`ve talked here about Chibiusa being the next generation of Sailor Moon, but this has made me wonder--

If Chibiusa is the next in line as Sailor Moon, why is her group of senshi named for asteroids and is not made up of the next generation of planetary senshi?

Maybe they become somewhat immortal in their eternal forms and do not need to be replaced, or maybe just not yet. But then why would Chibiusa take over as Sailor Moon for Usagi? Maybe it's so that Usagi can focus as queen.

It's probably due to the fact that they haven't had any children, yet, I like to hope one day they will.

The asteroid senshi are a way to probably give Chibiusa her own team instead of replications of her mothers team. 

Since I like the image the "yet" theory, by the time the senshi settle and have kids, Chibiusa is already an adult.

The senshi probably don't relax in their duties until Chibiusa and the Asteroids take over the senshi responsibilities, and once they do they can relax and find love of their own.

The asteroids are basically planets. In astrology one of the theories are they are basically planets that were never fully formed. Many moons are trapped asteroids or even planets that were caught by the stronger gravity of other planets.

As far as I recall, only Ceres is perfectly spherical in the asteroid belt.

Taking from the Sailor Moon world and not just astrology, life can be born on other planets and moons so why not asteroids? It's adding a more unique flair.

As long as there is an atmosphere for life, life can exist. Many moons n our solar system have atmospheres.

Some asteroids even have moons, and some have their own, albiet weak, gravity pull and with gravity they can, in theory, have an atmosphere, so Naoko probably took this from astrology and gave these asteroids life like she had for the other heavenly bodies in space.

I do recall Ceres standing out from the group. I think it's a planetoid. And maybe it is possible for life to arise on these smaller (though still huge!) objects.

I guess I just figured by that point the other [planetary] senshi may have also settled down. I mean, Chibiusa looks like a child but is really around 900 years old, so there would have been a lot of time for the senshi to develop families of their own. But you're right, maybe they couldn't while still on duty, so to speak.

It makes sense they'd wait, but when you think about it, after Crystal Tokyo was formed, Usagi stopped aging at the age of 22, all the senshi stopped aging then too and even Chibiusa's age progression was incredibly slow.

It probably took the people a while before they too were affected by the longevity of life due to the crystal and the manga even states not everyone on earth has gained long life spans and it's only hinted that the senshi stop aging completely.

Perhaps after 900 years in the future, life has begun to flourish on their own planets again. Maybe they'll meet someone of their own kind and fall in love and have kids.

Lots of time for them probably doesn't seem like much, after all, we only feel the passage of time because we age, and we die fairly quickly. When it's come to any series about beings with sometime of longevity and sometimes even immortality, they are written as not really noticing the passage of time, a 1000 years doesn't feel much different than a year to us normal decaying humans lol

Agreed. If they didn't had children as of yet, we don't see Chibi's planetary senshi. Chibiusa is growing up, so a new team to help her, while waiting for new planetary senshi (in case the actual planetary senshi have kids) or in case they die and don't have children or they just maybe planetary senshi just follow the original Princess Serenity?
