So I decided to rewatch all of SeraMyu in order!! YayYayYay! This might take a few months
Musicals are looong.
#1 Summer 1994 - Gaiden Dark Kingdom Fukkatsu Hen
The star of this show is undoubtedly darling little Nana as Venus (sorry Anza T.T) She just acts every single person off stage. With her beautiful performance of "Namikimichi no Koi", Nana basically sets the stage for all other performers to be compared to. I adore these little anime and manga references sprinkled through out it. The writer has clearly done their homework. Costuming is a bit gaudy but its honestly not that bad once you et used to it. Yuri is a wonderful Beryl, her evil laughing and perfect timing is wonderful! Other star songs are of course "Yami koso Utsukushii" "Natsu wo Shimashou Vacation" "Onnanoko no Shinsou" and "Sailor War". (La Soldier is a give in) I also quite liked "Saikyou no Couple Gundan". I really did like Luna and Artemis here, its a shame we didn't see them again. Definitely a strong start for SeraMyu once you get your head around the concept I think. I cried a few times in this... Luna and Artemis frantically searching for their friends, when the miracle of love occurs and La Soldier begins and everyone comes back is such a grand moment. Oh and of course Venus and Kunzite's last battle. Poor poor Venus... Anza's acting is a bit erratic but thats in line with Usagi's personality if you think about it!
# 2 - Summer 1995 - Usagi - Ai no Senshi e no Michi
Anza would have risen to the role of star this time around but oops, Keiko Hanayama (Kaolinite) beats her to the mark by a running mile. Keiko was absolutely fantastic in this. Brilliant acting and characterisation, the entire role of Kaolinite has been overwritten it seems. She's much more open, even dare I say kind? (unless youre a Sailor Soldier) and it works very well here, shes likely and creepy all at the same time. Whats good in this musical is fanservice is not given unless its fitting, this musical largely about Usagi's growing up and the dreams would not work so well if Uranus and Neptune were in everyone's faces. Luckily they weren't! This musical is fantastic, from the overture to the credits. Everything melds together so very very well! "Dream wa Ookiku" "Talisman wo Sagase" "Matamata Chibiusa Desu" "Tabidachi" "Solar Miracle Make Up" are all welcome additions to the myu song book. "L'amour D'amour Moonlight" may not be as strong a theme song for "La Soldier" but its pretty darn good. Even if Sanae was late to that finishing pose .
Ayako Morino is starting to show as a strong actress in the series, and we see Misako, unfortunately not very much
Anza and Yuuta completely beat out the anime in terms of relationship development. That Gondola scene is magical.
