I more or less stole Miki's idea of her dub rewatch and decided to tell you about my adventure through Sailor Moon S in french ;D I'll spam this thread on a daily basis to tell you about how it's going.

Nope, Haruka remained female. She was just given a male VA for her civilian form. But she still is 100% female.

They wouldn't be able to watch the original Japanese at all if it weren't for French subtitles

Naru kept her original name ^^ Later, it was respelled "Nanou", and in SuperS, it changed again (but I forgot for what)

Naru was Nanou and Umino was Marc (Except for ep 131. when it was Nina an Joël respectively), according to wikimoon.

Oh yeah, Boro knows it surely better than I do ^^ His language's dub is based on the french version

Sailor Moon S - Episode 1:

-Rei's dream is censored. Then re-added every other times. Weird.

-Raya isn't dubbed by Claude Chantal (also known as Minerva McGonagall's and Cinderella's Fairy godmother's french voice) anymore. Well. 5 points from Gryffrenchdub.

-Mathilda's mixed up proverb is close to the one Minako says. But she then joke about it, saying that if she let Artemis eat her steak, she would buy another one (as the proverb really implies). Knowing Minako, she would most likely fry Artemis instead -w-

-Ouch, I forgot how extremely accute Arty's french voice was.

-Tomoe seems to imply that talismans owner were initiated (to what? Being shot on by mad red haired girls?) and know what they have in their hearts.

-Kaolinite / Carolina is voiced by the same actress as Marcy, and use the exact same tone as Beryl.

-Kinda like the Steves of Marik in YuGiOh Abriged, Tomoe calls all his eggs "Demonia" and refers to them almost like if they already hatched.

-People say Raye is kinda chibi to Serena in the english dub. French Bunny is a dick to her Raya.

-*Bunny imagine herself getting hit in the mouth after a sarcastic comment by Raya* "Woah, you sure have PERCUTING arguments". I laughed. Best pun award goes to this episode.

-*Bourdu sees Bunny's bad grade* "OH! Bourdu! Ahah, nice weather today!" "What about you just stop playing dumb for once?" - OK, French Mamo is basically a dick.

-Mikuji is renaimed Arborina.

-Rei's agony is cut short.

-Moon Crystal Power Make Up = Pouvoir du Prisme Lunaire, Transforme moi. The french dub never bothered to translate the transformations phrase after S1.

-Moon Princess Halation = Cicatrisation Lunaire, Execution. It was also used to talk about Moon Healing Escalation. lazy french translators.

-Arboria tell to l'Homme Masqué (Tuxedo Kamen) something with a lot of weird french words I never heard before. Figures they aren't used in common language anymore since at least two centuries.

-More censored agony.

-In Bunny's flashback of what Raya told her ten minutes ago, Raya's VA reread all her script, with a shaky and sad voices, while the Japanese version just copypaste the original dialogue. Points in your favor, dub.

-Uranus is voiced by Molly's VA and Neptune by Mathilda's VA. It's going to change in their introduction episode.

I laughed at the Mamoru's quote. I shouldn't have but I did.

IMO, Usagi/Bunny had it coming from Mamoru. Love Usagi to death, but she really does need to get her act together school wise.

The way you originally phrased it made it sound like Bunny was a dick to Raya from the very beginning.

Well, I don't remember anything from Classic and R ^^ I'll watch these after S. But i'm pretty sure the "Bunny is a dick" thing isn't new.

Sailor Moon S - Episode 2:

-The Professor and Carolina talks to the egg.

-Luna after getting hit by Bunny who is still dreaming: "Don't worry, it was a nightmare for both of us". Smart line, Luna.

-Bunny talks as if the crystal stopped to work recently, and completely ignore the fact its light was erased by yersterday's monster.

-Bunny calls the cat Bourdu shows her Caramel

-"Who are you?" "Oh, just somebody kind". Modesty Bunny.

-When Nekonell appears, a grave voice announce her name. She retain her japanese name.

-Instead of repeating her name like a pokémon, Nekonell tells stuff like "I'm Démonia Nekonell" and "You won't escape"

-Like Arborina yersterday, Nekonell announce: "Etoile Noire" (Black Star) when she shows her soul-removing tatoo.

-"Nous sommes les guerrières de la lune!" (We are the warriors of the moon) I love this name for the Inners ^^

-Burning Mandala = Ame du feu (Fire Soul). ....Mh.... No?

-Sparkling Wide Pressure = Eclair Suprème (Supreme Thunder) ....Mh.... You're two seasons late, guys.

-Tiny cuts when Nekonell finish the removal of the little girl's heart.

-Neptune keep her voice from yersterday. Uranus gets Raya's VA.

-"I wonder who those two walking horrors are" (Venus about Uranus and Neptune) WOAW, Mathilda, calm yo tits!

-"Oh come on, react faster!" (Bunny as her friends got their asses handed to them by Nekonell) ...Mh... Shut up Bunny?

-In the original, Usagi cries and begs to Mamoru to let her help even if she can't fight. Bunny seems more determinated.

-"WATCH OUT HERE I COME" (Nekonell as she jumps on Bunny and Bourdu) K Nekonell. You're.... discret.

-I don't feel reassured..." (Luna) Nobody asked you anything, Luna.

-"HOWDY HERE I AM AGAIN" (Nekonell as she gather herself once again) Okay, please, keep repeating your name, it'll be fine.

-Moon Cosmic Power = Pouvoir du prisme lunaire. *SIGHT*

-"For Love and Peace, and in the name of the moon, I'll punish you, so get ready!" Your speech change everyday, Bunny...

-Moon Spiral Heart Attack = Baguette du coeur lunaire, fais disparaitre le mal! (Heart Moon Rod, get rid of the evil!) Now, that's better!

-Lovelyyyy! = MEOW

-"Can we keep it?" (Bunny about the rod) GIRL. YOU JUST SUMMONED IT. YOU KILLED A MONSTER WITH IT. IT'S BORN FROM YOUR LOVE WITH YOUR BF. YES IT'S YOURS.

Sailor Moon S - Episode 3:

-Motoki (Or should I call him Tommy?) has Bourdu's voice.... WHY.

-"We only live once, you know" Yeah, YOLO Mathilda.

-Mathilda's proverb of the day: "Who wants to go far simply start fast"

-Haruka has a male voice, as expected. But it's a cool one. If I remember well, he share his VA with Zoisite and Ail. (The french dub had really little voice actors, so almost 5 characters share VAs)

-"Can you please hold my towel?" Haruka, that's a schoolbag.

-Michiru has Marcy's VA. Their names are revealed: Fréderic and Mylène. Fréderic is written that way in the Glénat manga, even though it's the male spelling of the name. It still fit both genders.

-When Mylène tells Fréderic "Looks like you made friends", she pronoumce "friends" ("ami") in the feminine mode ("amie"), meaning she still qualify Fréderic as female. GOOD.

-Tommy isn't named once. Maybe the translators though he was just some random crown employee?

-Mathilda talks about Fréderic in a dramatic way, while Minako just seemed dead serious. Points in the dub's favor!

-"YOU DON'T HAVE TO FOLLOW ME" - Mathilda seems very angry against Bunny....

-The "ERRRRM" frame Usagi has after Minako says "You already have Mamoru" is cut.

-TOMOE TALKS WITH CAPS LOCK TODAY.

-"GO AND FIND THE PURE HEART OF CRYSTAL" Wait, isn't it "CRYSTAL OF PURE HEART"?

-Bunny doesn't repeat all of what Mathilda says during Fréderic's interrogation and has her own lines.

-"It's more than love between us" Haru/Michi is still here. GOOD.

-The Daimon is unnamed.

-"VROOOM VROOOM" - Daimon

-"Pouvoir de Vénus, Transforme Moi!" <3

-Oh, hey, during the henshin, I noticed Usagi's second toe is longer than her big toe. THE MORE YOU KNOW.

-"I am the champion of Order and Justice, in the name of the moon! And also in the name of the moon, I shall punish you!" You know, I think Sailor Moon's catchphrase in the dub is just "in the name of the moon" and not all the stuff that comes before.

-"Stay where you are!" - The Outers. "Who talked?" - The Daimon. SO. The Daimon talks as if she just saw a car parked on a parking. She's baaadly dubbed. She shows no surprise whatsoever.

-"Warrior of the new age, I am Sailor Uranus. Proud and Courageous." "And I am Sailor Neptune, Brave and Gracious." I somehow love those speech more than the originals. ^^

-"Des Guerrières de la lune?" What, I thougt that was only for the Inners!? Are all the Sailor Senshis Guerrières de la Lune? Why not.

-World Shaking = "CERCLE DE FEU, BRULE!" (Circle of Fire, Burn) WA- URANUS. Your attack is about Sky Energy that destroy the earth. Don't go and throw fire in that!

-Deep Submerge = "CERCLE DE GLACE, GELE!" (Circle of Ice, Freeze) Neptune. Nope. Nope. Nope. What will we get once Pluto is here? "Circle of Hell, Scream" Hey that actually sound as badass as Pluto's "HELL SCREAM" in the french manga! So I wouldn't mind.

-Moon Spiral Heart Attack = Cicatrisation lunaire, Execution. WHYYY. I thought we got rid of this spell. Last episode's was better!

-LOVELY = SHE TOUCHED MEEEEEE. Okay Daimon, don't come back, K?

-The Outers are well dubbed, but Uranus's voice is too girly IMO.

-Marcy: "C'est pour ca qu'elles ne sont pas ici?" (Talking about the cats) .... i though Artemis stayed male in the french version? (Elles is used to talk about two or more girls)

-For the "No way I'm a dude, dude" scene, Fréderic is dubbed by her Sailor Uranus VA.

Sailor Moon S - Episode 4 (Also the episode where everybody is being uselessly mean to Bunny)
-"Everything in Bourdu's appartment smell like order and serenity!" - Bunny. Is that a pun...?

-Bourdu's book: "A futurist point of view of the genetic genes".... Mh... Sounds redundant.

-Bunny seems more annoyed by how her cookies are burned rather than worrying about how Bourdu is more prince-like than she is.

-"This little sour aftertaste is... very original" Go, shut up Bourdu.

-"There is not a chance that he can get sick from it. You did let your cookies enought times in the hoven, didn't you, Bunny?" Wow, Molly, this one was sharp!

-Mathilda is said to be good in spanish. I don't see why they censored the english out, though.

-REI'S FACE.

-Luna: "You're not worthy of being Bourdu's wife. Except him to leave you!" - Everybody is a dick to Bunny, The Episode!

-Mylène has a snobbish accent. I like that.

-When Mylène spot Bunny, she says: "Fréderic! Behind You!" in the same tone she would say if it was a daimon... K. Everybody clearly hate Bunny today.

-I should write a lemon fic about Michiru. Not erotic or anything. Just some lemon stuff with Michiru.

-"I'm a bit annoyed, so I'm going to calm down a bit." - Fréderic. I sure hope It's not Bunny who annoyed him...

-"See you around, Moon Face! - Fréderic. Wait, isn't it with that name that Amara called Serena in the Cloverway dub?

-"I hope she didn't run away because of me...' - Bunny, WE THINK ALIKE!

-"NEVER CALL ME MOON FACE AGAIN!" Yeah! Tell her, Bunny!

-Mylène talks about Fréderic using "She". Anybody still think French Haruka is male?

-"I was looking for their hideout!" - Fréderic - I know this is in the original too but... WHAT ABOUT YOU LOOK IN THE DAMN ACADEMY YOU ENTRED IN BECAUSE IT WAS SUSPICIOUS?

-When Mylène talks to Bunny at the Fruit Parlor, her not moving face make me think Mylène was mocking her.

-Tomoe talks normally today. As normally as an evil genius can.

-"Fetch the Pure Heart!" Ooooh who's the good daimon? Who's the good daimon! *pat the daimon* you're the good daimon!

-"Is it going to be hard for you to stay sitting during the whole concert?" - Bourdu. Maaaan he sure is a dick.

-Octave keep her name, and say nothing but "Octaaaaaave". Good thing her french voice actress is Amélie Maurin (Mathilda's voice) and that her voice is not accute at all. My eardrums still remember this episode in japanese.

-"We are the soldiers of order and justice!" Ooooh, Raya used "Soldier" (Soldats) to talks about the senshis! Good!

-"Mon Homme Masqué!" (My masked man!) - Bunny to Bourdu. It's actually cute the way she calls him owo

-Sparkling Wide Pressure = Silence, Creature of the Darkness! Marcy, please, you're a magical girl, not a shounen heroine.

-In the original, Neptune says "We don't want to mix with people like you" or something. In the french version, she just say: "I assure you we won't use the talismans for our own needs." Jupiter doesn't trust her, apparently. bad Translator! >:U

-Moon Spiral Heart Attack is still Cicatrisation Lunaire.... *cries*

-Lovelyyyy = Touchééééééée - Please Jesus tell me not all the daimons are going to say that.

This episode was goodly dubbed. Nothing really worth mentionning.

Sailor Moon S - Episode 5

-"You know, we only live once!" I feel like Bunny is reclaiming Mathilda's lines...

-Instead of "Is he cheating on me?" Bunny goes all "Oh, it mustn't be Bourdu..." when she see Unazuki on his bike.

-Unazuki is voiced by Molly's VA and is renamed Juliette.

-You know, using "first kiss" as an euphemism for something else makes this episode a whole lot more interesting.

-Mylène talks like a grade school teacher when she is doing her kissology lesson.

-TOMOE TALKS IN CAPS LOCK AGAIN TODAY.

-SO DOES CAROLINA.

-The Daimon remain unnamed, but shout "GO TO WORK" every ten seconds. I feel like she's talking to me...

-"THE SILVER CRYSTAL!" - The daimon as she followed the Pure Heart. Mh... i'm pretty sure you're two seasons late, dude.

-I feel like the episode was sped up in the french dub...

-"WHERE ARE YOU mijlhftyjuiopomuiftyu" - The Daimon. Okay, she literally said a keyboard smash.

-Daimons are reffered to as Daimons. Not Démonia (as in the early episodes) or Demonix (as in the Glénat manga) Good!

-"NOOO! Not the vacuum cleaner!" - Sailor Moon. An heroine you are, Bunny...

-L'Homme Masqué sounds.... threatening? (how is this word even spelled)

-LOVELY = YOU WOOOOON. Okay, can we go back to "TOUUUCHEEE" please?

-It's in the original too, but I just love how Mamoru is like "I can't tell you our first kiss" at the end of the episode.... Mh... Tuxey can't admit he kissed a drunk girl? -w-

Sailor Moon S - Ep 6

-Daimons are referred to as Démonias again

-Umino / Marc is voiced by Frédéric's male VA. Naru / Nanou is voiced by Molly's VA, who also voices Artemis. Nanou's tone is somewhere between Molly's and Arty's.

-NO

-PLEASE NO

-Fréderic's flawless male voice is now the same as Bourdu's.... Maybe the first voice was too androgynous?

-Mylène has Mathilda's voice for some reasons.

-I'll never say it enough, but I think someone should have gave the dub company some money. Only 6/7 VAs for a 200 episodes serie? You're pulling my leg

-"Are they going to participate?" "Of course not! Fréderic is a girl!" Oh god we made it through 5 episodes without any bad efforts to hide HxM, why start now?

-"You know, sometimes I wonder if Fréderic really is a girl..." Me too, Molly, me too.

-For some reasons, Mathilda's VA makes a better Michiru than Marcy's.

-"Show is over" = "We will withraw for now" TEAM OUTER BLAST OFF AGAIN

-Haruka's "Love is everything" speech becomes a simple "bye, good luck to the other candidates". Also, Fréderic implies she doesn't love Mylène... Sure, Fred, Sure ;D

-The candidate who say "LOVE IS A BATTLE" mention his girlfriend does karate.... That why she hit you with a HAMMER?

-Dieheart remains unnamed

-Dieheart taking Marc's heart from his chest is cut.

-"Moon Warriors, UNITE!" u ok there bunny

-Uranus's usual voice is kept.

-For some reasons, Neptune's voice is her usual voice instead of Mathilda's... Maybe the dubbers assumed they weren't the same characters?

-"LOVELY" = "YOU WOOOON"

Sorry if the whole VA stuff is confusing. But the french dub had exactly 7 actors for the whole show

Sailor Moon S - Episode 7

-Marcy tells Bunny she will cook her some Quiche Lorraine. That's a speciality of the region of france I live in!

-Fred keep Bourdu's voice.... Mylène keep Mathilda's voice....

-"You know, Marcy, even if Fréderic has a guy's voice, she's female!" Nice job covering the disapearance of the more androgynous voice, dub

-I don't know anymore if Mako says that in the original, but when the hankerchief fly away, Marcy yells "Noo! Not my excuse to see Fred again!"

-Scar remains unnamed. She has a male voice for some reasons. Funny when you see her legs.

-Shine Aqua Illusion becomes "Silver Sparkles! Action!" which is the frenchd name of Shabon Spray.

-Neptune keep her usual voice while Mylène doesn't.... Also, the actress take the exact same tone as when she voices Kaolinite.

-Démonias are Daimons again. Though they are referred by that name by Bunny who isn't supposed to know what these monsters are.

-Mylène's voice is her second voice again. KEEP IT COHERENT, DUB

-Mylène and Fréderic are said to be in terminale. (Last year of high school in france)

-The "Is Mako a lesbian" debate becomes a "Can we trust Fréderic" debate. Tus, Bunny pulling out Rei's porn collection out of nowhere isn't in the theme of the conversation at all.

-Marcy tells the whole "I admire Haruka" stuff when she talks with the Inners, instead of waiting at the end of the episode.

-The daimon keep her male voice when she attacks again.

-When she take off her mask, Scar's voice become a woman's voice, but still remain creepily low. Nice transition, dub!

-Snippets in Marcy's agony

-Mars's and Venus's attacks both becomes "XXX power! Action!"

-Deep Submerge = "Powers of Neptune, Attack!"

-Jupiter Star Power Make Up = Pouvoir de Jupiter, agis tout de suite! (whatever happened to "transforme moi"...)

-Instead of yelling her incantation, Jupiter says: "Back off, monster!"

-Lovely = You won. I'll stop noting it if it continue next episode. Also, the dub did a nice job: Both Scar's actor yells it together.

-Jupiter to the Outers: "Let's explain ourselves!" Yeah! That's my Marcy! Explain yourself with uppercuts!

-Mako's monologue about how she looks up to Haruka is replaced by her admiring herself in the mirror.

This is a pretty fun read! Considering how here in the US we got a botch job, I've always been curious to know how other companies dubbed Sailor Moon in detail, as I had a feeling they had their own share of flubs, but there would be no way I would be able to understand the dialogue.

Changing Pluto's attack to "Hell Scream" does sound pretty badass, and imagining Tomoe talking like this (volume warning), just makes me giggle. And you're right, you would think that they would try and bring in more VAs for a 200 episode series...or at least keep the voices consistent. Good lord! @_@

Felt like continuing that. I need a break from all the Precure I watched lately.

Episode 8
-Instead of "You owe me a pizza! And you better buy one for Umino too!", Naru says "You owe me a pizza! AND an Ice Cream!" (Poor Umino....!)

- Okay so the first few minutes of the episode really are great. Molly (Ami) 's VA does an amazing job! And the dialogue is faithful to the original!

-In the original, Mamoru tells Ami: "If you were my doctor, maybe I wouldn't be that afraid of needles". In french, Bourdu says: "You knooow, I'm sure my fear of needles would go away if a pretty girl like you was to do my injections." Ok, just add a suggestive wink here and it can be read as "Scuse me I have a nurse fetish".

-Molly really seems to be more cheerfull when she leaves Bourdu, while Ami is still a bit worried when she leaves Mamoru. Also, Ami says "Before going to the study group I'll go to the swimming pool." While in french, it's the other way: "Once i'm done with the study group, I will go at the pool!" which kinda contradict the episode. The french dub never moved scene around, so I'll just call chibi translating.

-Mylène keeps Mathilda's VA again.

-Fuuuuck Haruka, I didn't want you to keep Bourdu's voice! I want your first VA back!

-Molly does a little silly giggle before saying "It's a tie!" in her race against Mylène.

-Her voice when she says "I'm sorry" to Mylène sounds as though she's about to break into tears.... K, VA, you're doing a good job, but don't overdo it.

-Instead of teasing Mylène like Haruka did, Fréderic sounds a bit like he's angry and sarcastic with her.

-"I'm worried for her" (- Michiru) is changed by "Yeah, I might have been a bit harsh... but I wanted to help her!" (- Mylène)

-Mathilda talks to Marcy about the proverb of the tortoise of the hare, using quotes from French author Jean de la Fontaine. ("It's no use of running, you must just go when you must" or something like that.) Molly arrives and tells her she quoted the wrong proverb. It should be: "Something you got through cheating will always feel bittersweet" (or something like that) HOW WOULD YOU KNOW MOLLY? YOU JUST ARRIVED.

-Instead of being worried for Usagi because she said the very intelligent "GIVE AMI A BREAK, SHE WORKS TOO MUCH FOR US!", everybody seems to be like "ARE YOU MAD BUNNY? WE CAN'T WORK WITHOUT MOLLY!"

-First cut of the episode, Right after Bunny runs after Molly:


-"What's going on?" by the girls is changed by another french proverb meaning "Even if somebody make efforts to change their behavior, their normal self will come back really fast".

-Fréderic sounds really kind to Molly was Haruka was like "Hey girl, rematch. Now."

-Tomoe talks normally today.

-Mylène calls Molly by her name.

-During the race, Ami originally was "Wait, how can she be smiling?" while Molly is like "Oh hey she's smiling!" and seems cheerful about it

-chibi off Fréderic. Your old voice didn't seems to be sarcastic 24/7.

-Instead of saying her name, the daimon says "I WANT YOUR HEART". Even when her voice is muffled by her gear.

-Dobrine keep saying "YOUR HEART" instead of her name.

-Dobrine is voiced by that one VA that only do bad guys.

-Ami's agony is cut.

-Even though Tomoe called the daimons "Demonias" earlier, Luna calls the Daimons by their name.
