| I'm a member over at FanEdit.org, and I've made a few fan edits. That's where you take an existing movie or TV series and edit it to fit your liking.
I've recently started on a fan edit of the S series. I chose this one, because the storyline is actually complete (unlike Super S) on NA DVD and has better video quality than Classic or R (and at least one episode on my R set have a problem area, if I recall correctly; plus there's that one missing episode).
I envision this as a sextology film series. I've ripped the Heart Collection I DVD to my computer (I likely haven't touched it in ten years!) and edited the first six episodes into a film. I tried to get episode 7 in there; I really did, but it pushes it over the storage capacity of a DVD5, and I don't want to compress the video.
I've cut out of good deal of stuff and have done some audio editing to make certain scenes flow smoothly from one to the next.
Here is my cut list:
From all episodes:
*cut episode previews *cut opening themes *cut title cards *cut eyecatches *cut lab scenes
episode 01:
*cut seed being implanted and Kaori Knight afterward *cut Kaori chuckling after youma takes off after Rei *cut Luna arguing with Usagi *cut Luna reacting to pure heart info *cut Artemis and Luna reacting to youma's power *cut Luna and Artemis to the non-rescue and reactions afterward *cut final Q&A scene
episode 02:
*cut seed being implanted *cut girl in her bedroom *cut youma tracking down girl (kept scream)
episode 03:
*cut seed being implanted *cut Moon Cosmic Power transformation
episode 04:
*cut seed being implanted
episode 05:
*cut girl in her bedroom, seed being implanted, youma attack *cut dog gag, youma screaming *cut Moon Cosmic Power transformation
episode 06:
*cut Melvin preparing for contest *cut seed being implanted *cut Melvin oversleeping
I now have to type up new closing credits based on the credits for all six episodes - as well as choose a song to play over the credits.
This will be a Japanese language-only edit.
I'm basically going for a "heroes' perspective" type of edit (hence we don't see Dr. Tomo or the lab), and I'm trying to trim out the cats a bit. I'll definitely be trimming Chibi-Usa's scenes once she arrives. What does everyone think of my approach to this? |

| I've pretty much finished the closing credits, and I selected DALI's version of "Moonlight Densetsu" as the ending theme of the first film.
I need some help on the title. I chose "Pretty Sailor Soldiers" as the title of the film series in order for it to be more inclusive (an ensemble versus it being "about" Sailor Moon). However, that's a bit too generic. I'm editing only the S series, so I'd like a title that takes this into account somehow. Any suggestions? |

| seems like an interesting project. i always though a compilation of episodes would be nice.
don't hesitate to skip some episodes that aren't much usefull for the continuity. it'll make your work easier.
Skipping Chibiusa's scenes doesn't seems like a so good-good idea, though, as her friendship with Hotaru is rather a big thing in the serie. |

| Well, I don't intend to cut out Horatu, so that'll remain intact. I just plan on trimming some of her solo stuff or when she's bickering with Usagi. Actually, I've also cut out a bit of typical Luna/Usagi arguing from the first episode.
I don't plan to cut out any entire episodes at this point. That's why this is a six-film project at this point. Heck, I might throw in the S movie in an appropriate spot as well.
Right now, though, I need a good, all-encompassing (cast-wise), series-specific title for this film series before I encode the final MPEG of this film. Maybe something related to love or hearts. Soldiers of Love, maybe. |

| The Heart Crystal? It's the name the italian dub gave to the thrid season. the S movie would fit greatly between Viluy's episode and Cyrpine's. |

| I went with "Soldiers of Love". Now, I'm just tinkering with the closing credits and making sure that I've got everything spelled correctly before I encode a test MPEG.
Bonus features for this film (on a second disc) will include characters profiles, an audio commentary by me over the clips episode that bridged R and S (to help get unfamiliar viewers up to speed), an audio commentary for the film itself, and perhaps some other things that I might find. |

| This is a cool idea. Can we see it somewhere? Like are you actually editing the episode to where we can see it edited? |

Definitely. A DLC file will eventually be available in my FTP folder at fanedit.info. This file can be opened in a free downloader program called JDownloader. It will then download the DVD files for my edit in a RAR archive. Each RAR file will be around 100 MB, and there should be 30-something files for the entire movie. Once all of them are downloaded, you can extract the DVD files with a program like WinRAR and use a DVD burner to burn the files to a DVD-R (remember to burn a video disc, not a data disc) and play it in a DVD player. |

Of course! I have finally created an MPG file of the movie. It runs one frame under 1:46:14, covering the first six episodes. Including the new opening title card and closing credits, the difference between viewing this movie and viewing the first six episodes (opening and closing credits included) is 35 minutes and 26 seconds. The "stereo" audio track has been downmixed to mono, since the series was made in mono anyway. I have also created a DVD menu. Unlike my previous fan edits, I've opted to not create a scene selection menu. It's quite a bit of extra work for something that I'm not certain gets used by anyone. I now have to back up some other files on a DVD-R and delete them from my hard drive, so I'll have enough space to export the film to DVD format. I'll then create the RAR archive (likely not tonight) and start uploading. |

| Well, after I had the DVD files created last night, I realized I misspelled Michiru's name in the ending credits ("Michuru"), so I went in, fixed it, re-encoded the MPEG, and re-encoded the DVD files. Today, after I got home from work, I created the RAR archive. There are 42 files, and the first one is uploaded. I'll continue uploading files, and I'll share the links here once the movie's completely uploaded. That way, you can see it before I submit it to FanEdit.org.
Also, sometime this week, I gotta find time to work on the bonus materials for the bonus disc, which means trying to find time when I'm home alone to record the audio commentaries. |

| Disc 1 of the first movie is uploaded. There are 42 files in the RAR archive. Once you've downloaded all of them, use a program like WinRAR to extract the the DVD files. Then use a DVD-burning program (like Nero) to burn a video disc.
I'll be gathering together materials for a bonus disc in the next few days.

| I ripped episode 89 from my Uncut Season 2* set yesterday and recorded an audio commentary. I'm not sure that I'm satisfied with it. I might redo it and have notes handy this time.
Then again, I might scrap it entirely, since the point of this commentary is to give background information about the series, setting, and characters, so I'd be free to talk about only the third season and my edits on the feature film commentaries. However, I'll have at least six feature-length commentaries during which to talk, so it might be helpful to have this background information to fill up dead spots. I could also type up text profiles to handle the background information.
*ADV Films had some nerve calling the set "Uncut Season 2", since they left an episode off. |

| Anyone still interested in this project? Over at FanEdit.org, it was rejected by the Academy, so, if I do continue with this film series, it will be for the awesome people here only. Here's the rejection e-mail: "Mark,
I reviewed your edit for approval. I'm sorry but I can't approve this. I am not as familiar with the original content as would be ideal so it is difficult for me to differentiate exactly what is a result of your edit vs. problems with the original, However I have concluded that it ultimately doesn't matter. The story makes no sense. We get thrown into a world with little introduction to characters or backstory. The 1st episode is extremely confusing. Your description says this includes episodes 1-6 so I assumed we are starting at the beginning??
Furthermore the episodes as you have edited them don't flow together very well as a combo movie style with a unifying storyline. They seem to work better as individual episodes IMO.
Honestly, the whole thing strikes me as a giant sexual tease with shoddy storytelling to move it forward.
Sorry Man," |
