So we Sailor Moon fans have our favorite Sailor Moon episodes, right? What about least favorites? Episodes you didn't like for certain reasons. Maybe the writing was bad, the premise was idiotic, the characters behaved terribly, etc.

My most hated SM episode was episode 18 of S, called "Art Appreciation" in English. God, there's just so much wrong with that episode it's not even funny. One, Usagi eats Chibiusa's cake, but the whole thing could have been avoided had Chibiusa left a note telling her not to eat the cake. When they find out, does Chibiusa admit this? NO! She blames Usagi through and through, doesn't admit to her own mistake, and holds it over her head throughout the entire episode, acting like she started the apocalypse! Worse than that, her friends get in on it! I would have appreciated it if SOMEBODY called Chibiusa out! But did they? Nope! They vilify Usagi for the whole thing and torture her throughout the entire episode! The whole episode is an idiot plot of epic proportions, everyone is suddenly mean to Usagi just because of something that could have easily been rectified, and Chibiusa herself was at her absolute brattiest in this episode and didn't admit to her own mistakes, blaming Usagi for the whole thing! God, someone should throw this episode in a fire!

The break-up arc in R, too. That also screamed idiot plot and characters not talking to each other and clearing things up. But it didn't bother me nearly as much as SM S 18. Uuuuuuugh!

I'm done. What's your least favorite Sailor Moon episode?

"Protect a Mother's Dream! New Attack for the Double Moon" because i find Chibiusa a brat in that episode. She wolfs down an entire lemon tart yet she gives Usagi flack for eating too much! And Ikuko doesn't even punish the little glutton and instead gets on Usagi's case about how she shouldn't be yelling at "an innocent little girl".

And the Dinosaur episode. I think it's the most pointless episode ever

For me, I would have to say episode 4 of Classic, "Learn How To Be Skinny From Usagi!"  Usagi gets like half a pound and still looks incredibly skinny but still freaks out about it.  Her family doesn't try to love her for who she is or encourage her to eat and work out responsibly but instead they engage in fat shaming her and mocking her for gaining a little weight, as if gaining a little weight is so horrible, even if it's not much.  Throughout the episode Usagi and her friends try to take unhealthy shortcuts to lose weight as fast as they can and no one tries to stop them from doing it.  Even Luna piles on Usagi and makes fun of her body.  I was particularly bothered by that one scene where Jaedite tells Naru that she won't be beautiful if she doesn't keep pushing herself too hard.   The only scene I like about this episode is the scene where Usagi beats up the bad guys with her fists and her kicks but even that scene is ruined by Luna still fat shaming Usagi by telling her she should fight to lose weight.  Just when you think it's over at last, the episode ends with Usagi freaking out over "gaining" more weight and the whole thing just repeats itself with nobody learning any important lessons about having a healthy eating/working out plan.  This is one episode where I feel like the DiC dub actually improved the original because at least DiC tried to tone down the most sexist lines of the original.

My least favourite episodes are any and every episode with the Moonlight Knight.

The episode in S where they targeted this kid in training during a tea ceramony and the kid decided to become a sailor senshi of tea. That entire ep was odd.

Even though the R season is my favorite, Episode 76 "Power of Evil! Invasion by Esmeraude" otherwise known as Emerald takes over/Emerald bakes up trouble was probably my all time least favorite. It just seemed like such a terrible episode. -_-

Another of my least favorite episodes probably has to be the recap episode, episode 89.  As far as recap episodes go, it wasn't a bad one and I loved the cute banter between the Soldiers arguing over who should be the new leader and they at least picked some cool moments from the series.  But I think it would have been a little better if they at least had some new animation for the scenes in between the clips, if only it's just scenes of the girls at Rei's place hanging out, it would have made things more interesting.  It was also kind of annoying for them to show the promo clips for S and the Outers when we American Moonies had to wait for years for the new episodes to finally come out. And ending the R season with a recap episode also just feels anticlimatic after the exciting conclusion in the previous episode.   I don't know why they didn't just make it a special separate from the TV series episodes like they did with the recap special for SuperS.

- One of the filler episodes between the first and Mercury's debut where Usagi does a mini make-up and wardrobe tutorial about how to get ready for a date. It was really weird and OOC for Usagi.

- The pointless episode where Chibiusa befriends a baby dinosaur

- "Artemis' Adventure! The Evil Animal Kingdom" - 'Nuff Said


- Episodes 104, 105, and 107. Tea ceremony, Makoto's random training in the woods, and the Chibiusa art class episode. 106 is one of the best though, because it's Haruka & Michiru's backstory told during the targeting of Elsa Grey.

- The final episode of S (127) because of how pointless it was. 126 finally showed Uranus & Neptune swearing allegiance to Sailor Moon as their princess and revealing Hotaru survived. The departure and return of Chibiusa + 1 final daemon is just superfluous

- The Shingo & Ami episode at the beach in SuperS. 


Stars, however, is nearly perfect. Episodes 167-172 are probably my favorite sequence of the entire series and the filler in the actual Stars storyline are so hilarious that they're worth re-watching many times.

I agree the filler ins in Stars are hilarious and I love rewatching them but one episode of Stars I didn't care for so much is that episode where Ami and Taiki are arguing about whether or not a star is created by the magic imagination powers of human beings.  I'm pretty sure stars are just big balls of gas in space and don't have anything to do with humans.  The professor should have just told Taiki he was just being nice to the boy and trying not to destroy his dreams and tell Taiki not to be a jerk instead of being overly dramatic about it all.  But then Taiki is my least favorite of the Starlights so maybe I'm biased against that episode.

The episode where Mamoru breaks up with Usagi and the episode where Nehellehina takes mamoru for her toy to torture and brainwash.

I'd say "Awaken, Sleeping Beauty! Mamoru's Distress". It felt like such a major hit to my OTP. Mamoru became really unlikable for me by this episode and the writing teased like it was going to end the break up arc but it didn't and it became a highly wasted filler episode.

If I remember correctly, this "random guy" was one of Chibi-Usa's friends.

But to answer the original question, my least favorite episode was episode 78, in R season. It was the one where all of the senshi girls had caught the flu except for Minako. And Minako had the idea to try to help the others all out whether they wanted it or not. Worse, she tried too hard - to the point of being stupid, I thought.

And this was one of the episodes shown on the very first day that I watched Sailor Moon (via the dub shown on Cartoon Network at the time). So I'm glad I didn't let this one episode derail my decision to continue watching SM.

The Dentist episode.  And that's because I hate going to the dentist too!
