When I was a kid and getting into fan fic writing, I read a lot of bad Super Robot Monkey Team fan fics. I remember one author I was friends with wrote a series of fan fics with OCs named Ichigo, Ryou, Otogi, Zakuro, and Bakura. I'm sure you can all guess where those names came from.

There was a Sailor Moon fanfic series I ran across a while back, and it somehow managed to combine every fanfic cliche into one fic without a hint of irony.

I'm not joking that in one series there was the following:

• Inners betraying Usagi
  
• Puppetmaster Setsuna
  
• Completely unlikeable Mamoru & Shitennou who still end up with Usagi & Senshi despite a complete and utter lack of chemistry between them. (I'm generally not big on Senshi / Shitennou to begin with, but even then this was badly written)
  
• Evil Manipulative Haruka
  
• Delicate Hetero flower Michiru
  
• Prince Uranus
  
• Disturbing amounts of Rini-hate/Rini-bashing/Making chibs the REAL villain of the story because of reasons.
  
• Weird alternating between dub and sub names for characters.
  

And some more WTF-worthy moments:

• Ikuko was secretly Queen Serenity
  
• Ms. Haruna became the new Sailor Pluto
  

There are some fanfics I wish I could un-read, this is one of them.

ahh fanfics. i got one, i got one. it was INTERACTIVE. it was this little multichoice game thing, but of course, there was this general woman who crowed herself QUEEN OF THE NEGAVERSE!...and for some reason, her name was Sapphire i believe. so NEGAVERSE WITH HINTS OF BLACK MOON!

it wasn't so bad, the writing was rather fun...especially Usagi and Mamoru's date. nevermind the fact she/he used english names...but then it took a turn for the worse.

one of the cute guys they had saved that the girls were kinda crushing on IS ALSO CRUSHED ON at FIRST SIGHT by the new evil queen woman...and of course as soon as he sees her, HE'S IN LOVE! "you're too beautiful to be evil!" and she tries to kidnap him. it was never finished as far as i know, mildly bad, but good it it's own right.

Perhaps the most candid assessments of problematic fan-fiction and cliches I have read are by the Fic B*tch. Fic B*tch

The site has not been updated in years. And, fair warning, she pulls no punches and has quite the dirty mouth. The navigation pane is in the site header and blends in fairly well.

Hey, interactive fanfics, no matter how condeluded are always a nice change of pace.

I do remember that there was an Avatar: The Last Airbender web comic that featured Katara and Zuko being shipped together, the author being accused of plagiarism, and everyone acting VERY OOC.

Uuuuuuuuugh. I just read a REALLY HORRIBLE fan fic which apparently depicts Usagi murdering Chibiusa in a gruesome manner (the dub names are used). Dear lord, this fan fic DESERVES the hate that it gets! Everyone is OOC and it's plainly wish fulfillment at its worst!

I can't remember how many fics I've read that included more than just one of those... but all in one??
I'm always in the hunt for a good fic, and lately I've found those are hard to come by..... Or maybe I'm just getting old and way too picky?

Every single Shugo Chara fanfictions (especially Amu x Ikuto fanfictions) that portrayed Tadase as a sissy or evil, and every single Shugo Chara fanfictions which portrayed Ikuto as a womanizer.


I have once ever read a Sakura x Tomoyo fanfiction which portrayed Syaoran as a wife beater, he abused Sakura then Sakura ran into Tomoyo and crying. In that fanfiction, Tomoyo was acting OOC and she turned into a Possesion Sue. Again, I also ever read a Sakura x Tomoyo fanfiction that portrayed Syaoran as a rapist.

I...I just skimmed over a terrible one shot about a woman and a Teddiursa doing...UUUUUGH!!! CANNOT UNSEE!!! CANNOT UNSEE!!!!

There are some many awesome fan-fictions I have read and you are about the story you are reading. There are so many chapters that it has to be finished, right? Then, you start nearing the end of the available chapters and either start to doubt yourself or be amazed by how the author must manage to wrap everything up so quickly.

Oh, no! The story hasn't been updated since 2009 and you don't know the ending!

Too bad real life can get in the way of great writing.

This is the most annoying thing ever! i once found this amazing Sailormoon fanfiction and it just randomly ends!

This isn't a specific fanfic, but one of my pet-peeves, which is badly written story summaries. I can't stand summaries where the author say, "I suck at summaries" or tell potential readers to "just read it". Neither of those are good ways to get potential reader's attention! It's like saying "I'm not confident in my product, but please try it anyway" or "Here's my product. I'm not really trying". It's the exact opposite of what a pitch should be! I also dislike summaries where the author is overly eager about asking people to review the story. It makes me feel like they're desperate for attention, and it turns me off from wanting to read the story.

I completely agree with this. The "I suck at summaries" just turns me off completely. I understand that brevity can be difficult, but saying that you can't write a summary for your own piece of work makes me doubt the story before I've even started it.

I read this one that was less then 300 words and included a pikachu who owns an american ranch and keeps traveling to different parts of the word and getting chased by bill nye and Donald Trump. It was written this way on purpose, and is one of my favorite fictions of all time. Is it problematic? Yes. But this is why I enjoyed it so. I laughed so hard I cried.

That sounds so gloriously stupid.

The worst fan fic crossover I read (UGH, my eyes! they're bleeding) is Yu-gi-oh/Sailor Moon. I can't believe the writer made Sailor Saturn (Hotaru Tomoe) Yugi's GF...she was also pregnant by him (story has fan-made drawings of them together). Fan fic writers like to include their fave characters together.

^I LAUGHED SO HARD MY TOWEL AROUND MY HAIR FELL OFF.

My main problems with fanfictions is lck of any grammar or punctuation, or when it's written like a script. I harldy ever read or finish fnafiction though, so I don't have much else to add. I like to write fanfiction however!
