Storyline Name: Strength
Creator(s): Sailor Uranus and Anait Zelleire
Forum: Crystal Tokyo
Advanced
Plot Summary: In a Star System far, far away, an evil force threatened the safety and freedom of a repressed people. Without a force of their own strong to combat the chaotic agent, the Carineans would be lost... but, as luck and Cosmos would have it, two traveling Sailor Senshi happen upon their planet before it was too late. Not knowing what they had walked in on, Sailors Enyalius and Achelois are quickly filled in on what was going on, and at Enyalius's insistence, they take on the Carinean's cause and seek out the threat before it could activate an ancient power that would decimate the world, leaving it a barren ground of lost souls bent towards Chaotic power. The Carineans offered up their best people to accompany the "Heavenly Warriors" to the evil one's mountain lair, and they set off in good time and good, if nervous, spirit.

The task proved more difficult than they could imagine.

While they had scaled the mountain face and entered the homestead without casualties - though some had fallen and were rescued in the nick of time by Enyalius and Achelois - the magnitude of the resistance they came across once within the evil-one's halls was overwhelming. Men dropped left and right as they hastened to reach the top of the mountain lair, an alarm sounding their entrance heralding the beginning of the End of the Carineans. At last, in his power room, the pair of senshi were alone in facing the threat... and it wasn't looking good.

How do they get out of this?

Details on any necessary information: This was one of the first adventures Sailor Enyalius and Sailor Achelois went on; this is meant to be a snapshot RP rather than a huge storyline! Characters know each other and have spent a good deal of time together, but have never quite been tested like this.

[Advanced]Strength Enyali12

Last time really wasn't that bad.

Sure, Achelois was a handful around other people, but that chaotic manifestation had been easy enough to deal with - just a few stray shadows to eradicate. Feelings were hurt, but nobody had died, so all and all it had been pretty good.

Enyalius breathed deeply, forcing herself to calm down, her fingers realigning themselves on the hilt of her sword. She leaned forward, off the wall, ready to go, but then fell back against it. She wasn't ready yet. She took a few more breaths, ignoring Achelois, who would be looking for her to lead - what was she thinking right now? Did she want to turn back? Did she want to give up adventuring like this? Achelois was changing, slowly but surely, finally starting to actually look like she not only understood but maybe believed that what they were doing was more natural than just letting events go as they were - that their duty as senshi - their natural duty - was to fight back against the darkness that possessed corporeal forms. This was keeping "nature's balance"; they were meant to be part of it, not observers and keepers of the scales, but instruments meant to be used to right wrongs. But now? When so many had died? Was Achelois thinking that things would've gone better if they hadn't gotten themselves involved? That the soldiers' deaths were strictly on their shoulders, having interfered where they were not meant to? Her determination wavered, part of her wanting to agree with the imagined suppositions of her friend... but she couldn't let that happen.

She took in a long, deep breath, and held it, closing her eyes, emptying her mind.

Their deaths are not my fault. They died fighting for their people, for their freedom, and for their way of life. Nothing can be done to change the past, but I can make sure their deaths were not in vain

She released her breath and peeled around the corner, sword raised, a battle cry ripping from her lips as she charged the shadow-creatures that infested the last chamber, the last obstacle between them and the person who was in charge; if they got through these, the next step would be easy enough, right?

[Advanced]Strength Achelo10
So many have fallen, so why are we the only ones left? Will we fall too? Was this Chaos meant to rule here? When do you fight and when do you accept your fate?

Achelois struggled to keep the conflict of belief and action under control.  On her planet, she had served as the keeper of balance, allowing neither death nor life to grow out of control.  Things had been that way for decades.  Then Enya crashed into her life, and now she was wavering.  Now she was dealing with the consequences of acting.  While she had developed healing powers to help the many creatures and life forces on her planet, never had she been pushed to the limit as she was now, traveling with Enya.  So many had died for only the two of them to arrive here, before the conductor of this chaos.

She had failed them, she had failed all of them.  If what Enya said was true, that it was their duty and life purpose to work towards the life and peace of others, to stopping this Chaos that threatened life itself, then she had failed miserably.  Again she had found herself contemplating, had they just allowed things to play out, would they have gone better? How much had interfering changed their fates?

Achelois gripped her staff tighter to quell the shaking of her hands and looked to Enya for some kind of guidance.  The warrior she traveled with had much more experience than her, so how did she handle it?  However unable to catch Enya's attention, she instead turned inward, looking for her planet's energy.  Allowing it to wash over her like calm waves.  Enya rushed forward around the corner and her eyes snapped back open.  For now, all she could do was not fail Enya.

[Advanced]Strength Enyali12

The fight was bitter and grueling, the masses overwhelming - nothing even remotely close to the melees on Enyalius, where at least the combatants were wary of harming those on their own side. There were times - nearly panicked - that she swung her sword around her just to buy room to breathe, but the respite never lasted long enough to completely recenter herself; wherever her sword made room, one of the one-eyed shadow creatures would dash in to fill it, reaching to scratch her with its long, clawed fingers. She had pulled the tiara from her head and braced it in her left hand, using it as bladed knuckles - yet another small sword to keep everything at bay, and yet the gashed wounds caused by her kicking, punching, elbowing and slashing seemed to thin the herd only marginally. Her strength ebbed with each thrust, every jab; she was soon shouting with every attempt, using her voice to encourage her own movements as much as to scare her opponents.

They may be overrun.

It hurt to admit it - it frightened her to consider it - but even with the warm, refreshing waves that Achelois sent her way, mending her cuts and renewing her skin, she may not last. They may be forced to abandon the cause, fighting to escape with their own lives, allowing this Chaotic force the lives of the entire planet because she wasn't strong enough or smart enough to find a way to stop him.

Distracted by her worries, she missed an important block in favor of a clean stab, and her thigh was ripped open by a creature, its claws tearing deep into the muscle; she cried out in surprise and pain, letting her guard down for a fraction of a second, and was swarmed. Favoring the leg, she lashed out with her own flurry of blows just as a rush of healing energy, stronger than any of the more recent ones had been, filled her and repaired the wound; putting weight back on she threw more energy into her attacks and soon found the number surrounding her lessen for a moment, but rather than falling and not getting back up, they were leaving.

Heading for the hallway, and Achelois.

Her heart hammered in her chest. "Achelois!" she shouted in fear, backing up towards the opening - Achelois didn't know how to fight like she did. Achelois had never dealt with close combat - she had never been in a situation wherein she couldn't just fly out of the way, or bring the entire mountain down. "Achelois!" She was a sitting duck - her uniform provided no inherent protection - all cloth, no hard edges - her staff was wooden, easily chipped by these creatures' claws. "Achelois!!" She turned her head to see them mobbing her, green flashes the only indication that she was even in there, that the beings remained upright the only sign that she was still standing and somehow fending them off. She could barely breathe, every part of her constricting in panic. If Achelois fell - if Achelois didn't make it --

Why had her planet abandoned her?! Tears cleared trails of dirt and sweat from Enyalius's cheeks as her thrusts became half-hearted, yet bitterly vicious, slicing neatly through throats, hitting vital arteries almost effortlessly; if she couldn't reach Achelois in time, if anything happened to Achelois, it was all her fault, but if she had access to her powers, if she could direct this flow of battle like she used to be able to, if her planet hadn't revoked her magical abilities, getting out of this would have been easy. Instead it could end up with both of them defeated. Hadn't her homeworld done enough?! Hadn't it fostered enough death?! Must it throw Achelois atop the pile of innocents that had fallen for it?!

Must it drag her down with it, having chosen her as its representative?! She hated the connection! She hated that the was lumped in with it!

The flurry of blows behind her intensified, the odd clicking sounds the enemies made sounding with higher frequencies. Why wasn't Achelois answering?! She turned around to see them piling - Achelois was down! "NO!!" the word tore from her lips and she gave up her fight, turning to show the larger crowd her back as she flung herself towards the pile of creatures, ripping and tearing at them using her own hands and her tiara's blade, elbowing, kicking, digging her way down. Achelois couldn't be dead - Achelois can't die! Without Achelois -- without Achelois... what would become of her?!

Liera had crash landed on her planet. Achelois had found her, had cared for her in that weird, quirky way of hers, had showed her around, offered to let her stay, entertained her ideas, spoke openly about her beliefs, challenged Liera's way of thinking. Had healed her, given her solace, offered to let her remain on that beautiful world - a place to live away from everything, a perpetual heaven to call her home - and instead Liera had convinced Achelois to follow her away from that utopia. She was the entire reason Achelois was out here. Achelois, who had somehow managed to betroth herself within five minutes of meeting a male human being, who was so socially inept she started fistfights - fistfights Enyalius had to settle! - as easily as she quelled riots with her quiet, steadfast reason; who found it odd to help a single living being unless an entire nation was on the line. Who managed to infuriate and annoy her as often as inspire and intrigue her. Achelois was the question and the answer of her new life; if she lost that...

She threw the last being away, feeling them press and dig all around her, but she pinned herself atop of Achelois, protecting her as much as she could from them as she struggled to figure out if she were still breathing. Blood matted the blonde hair around her face, and in the turmoil Enyalius couldn't tell anything, but she knew Achelois wasn't making any sound, and her gaze looked too steady to be conscious. Sobbing, she slammed her fist into the ground beside her, guilt and fear and pain filling her. Achelois. The emotions grew to fully encompass her, to the point where she couldn't think of anything else but how she has failed Achelois so completely, and how Enyalius's planet had failed her. The guilt spread most of all, overwhelming her... filling her with power.

As she slammed her fist into the ground again, words of power escaped her lips, her planet granting her one ability, fueled by their mutual guilt. "Enyalius Heavy Burden!"

The enemies were thrown back away from them, then driven to the ground, where they were pinned and faded back into the shadows they originated from. The immediate threat was over. Weakened beyond belief, Enyalius managed to roll away from Achelois's body before she collapsed in a heap, her wounds catching up to her, barely able to breathe.

The men from the city were dead. The Chaos Agent is still alive - the people of the planet would soon be enslaved. She was powerless to stop him. Achelois had - Achelois was... She stared up at the rock ceiling above her.

She had failed in every way.

[Advanced]Strength Achelo10

Achelois didn't have time to ponder whether this was what she should be doing.  She pushed all of the questioning thoughts down as far as she could and pushed her mind into to one focus: Enya.  She remained behind in the hallway as Enya faced the horde of creatures in the room.  As the thoughts bubbled to the surface, she pushed them back down, it doesn't matter right now.  Instead she kept her focus on the back of the one fighting ahead of her.  Allowing her energy to flow almost continuously to her fighting counterpart.  However she knew, she couldn't keep this up.  She was sending her energy, wave after wave, draining the energy she collected from her planet.  It would only be a matter of time...

Having spent so much to try and save those they had lost along the way, her guilt mixed with a desire to let nature take it's course, had exhausted her mentally and physically.  And yet, she did know one thing, she wanted her and Enya to make it out.  Whatever this was, she didn't want to lose it.  So she released wave after wave of energy to Enya.

Her healing wasn't affective as it was.  She could feel it but what else-she saw the blood, Enya had shifted to cover for her injury.  Achelois rushed to get out what little she had left, her glow was brighter this time.  When some of them began running towards her, for a moment, she thought Enya had gone down.  Enya had fallen.  She felt the scratches as her eyes searched, and with relief she saw that Enya was still standing, but for how long?

Achelois's staff swung again and again at the evil creatures, but their claws easily deflected it, chipping away at it.  There was nothing to protect her from their claws as they dug into her flesh, and though she could hear Enya calling, hear the fear in her voice, she could not respond.  Not when she was so tired, not when she felt the ground meet her body as the weight of the creatures pressed atop of her.  She couldn't breathe enough to get her voice out. Besides, didn't this mean that they couldn't go against nature?

This is it.  I wonder if Enya will make it out.  Will chaos rule here? What did that mean to her?  Would her planet suffer while it waits for a new... her?  Achelois allowed the thoughts to act as a bubble, taking her away from the pain outside and focusing on the memories of her home within.  However she was soon brought back to the outside as she felt the weight of the creatures lessening, the claws becoming less numerous.  She was so tired she couldn't move, everything hurt, even though she could feel Enya near her, protecting her, there was no response.  Would Enya die now as well?

Suddenly there was great mass movement of the creatures back and away from them and just as suddenly they were alone.  She felt Enya moved next to her on the floor, she listened, daring to hear the other breathing.  Enya was alive, but she needed to act fast, neither of them were in the best of shape anymore.  Achelois struggled internally, praying to her planet, calling on it to help her, to let not just her but Enya return to it.  Her safe haven answered, blessing her with energy.  She allowed the energy to rush over her, overflowing to the treasured companion next to her.

Finally, she felt like she could breathe again.  She slowly pulled herself up into a sitting position, finding her staff next to her, it also having been restored.  She slowly looked to Enya next to her, relief bubbled out from her eyes, at least for a moment they were safe.  Should they escape, or should they go on?  If they escape, they live, but the planet is taken over.  If they go on, they could die, or they could liberate the people from Chaos here.  What should she do? It doesn't matter, she would do what Enya wanted.  She was out here, away from home, for Enya.  To watch over her, to protect her, to see her smile.  Right now, that's all she wanted.

[Advanced]Strength Enyali12

The warmth overtook her almost violently, spreading like an explosion through the right side of her, the shock pinning her in place as the cuts and gashes were erased from her skin in a series of hot, goose-bump-filled waves. In a jolt she turned her head to the side, panic fighting with hope to see whether this had been some sort of final death throw or miraculous recovery, but Achelois was so still and silent her anxiety only grew with time, until finally the blonde took a deep breath and slowly rolled up into a sitting position and turned to look at her. Enyalius released her held breath in a cry of relief, her expression grateful yet confused as she threw herself up onto her knees and sprung to embrace Achelois tightly, wrapping her arms around the others's back, gripping the soft cloth in her bloody palms, feeling Achelois's warmth and her chest rising with her breathing. She was alive.

Enyalius pulled back, her eyes searching the bright green irises, still not quite believing whatever miracle Achelois had pulled, but then Achelois had always been able to accomplish wonders. She should never have doubted -- she shook her head and held her tight again. "I'm sorry!" she exclaimed, her voice hoarse as fresh tears wet Achelois's blonde hair, "I should've known better! I'm so sorry! Because of me you almost --" she choked on her words, unable to finish, instead just shaking her head as she held Achelois tighter.

[Advanced]Strength Achelo10
Achelois allowed herself to be pulled back and forth as Enya wept her apologies.  She gently wrapped her arms around the neck of the warrior, relieved but uncertain.  She didn't want Enya to die, even if it meant fighting against the fate's design.  She didn't-she couldn't understand why.  Finally she spoke, her soft soothing voice echoing against the stone walls.  "I'm not going to let you die, I'll give everything I have, but I won't let-" Her voice faded to silence.  What could she do? If it was truly to happen, what could she do?

We'll take it one step at a time.  She found the thought soothing.  Achelois brushed back their hair out of their faces, first Enya's, then her own, before she grinned as she looked into Enya's copper eyes.  "I do believe we owe someone for all of the misfortune they have caused."  As if on cue, a shadowed figure came into the room ahead of them from the other side.  All they could see was beady red eyes atop glowing pale green skin.   The creature reached up a hand something shot toward the ceiling above them.  An explosion on impact knocked several stalactites loose, now falling towards them.  Achelois felt hands around her waist tighten as she was pulled forward and out of the debris zone.  A few moments later they reoriented, now in the room with the creature.  She looked up, stalactites filled the ceiling.   Wonder if that's gonna happen again... the sarcastic tone apparent even in her mind.

His voice was like a hiss, his mouth revealed several fangs as he spoke, "Try as the Sailor Soldiers might, they cannot win!  Bow before Chaos and maybe, I will let you serve me."

[Advanced]Strength Enyali12

Let her die?! After everything she had done, Achelois was still promising not to let anything happen to her?! Enyalius shook her head, sitting back on her legs, looking into her lap. Achelois deserved so much better than she, and yet... gentle fingers softly brushed the hair from her face, and copper eyes shyly rose to meet the other's gaze. As Achelois smiled wide, Enyalius's heart beat softly in her chest. In the brief silence between them, she finally acknowledged that the warm butterflies in her stomach may not just be second-hand embarrassment at whatever latest catastrophe Achelois might have blundered through, but, maybe instead...

'I do believe we owe someone for all of the misfortune they have caused,' Achelois stated, her encouraging, slightly mischievous smile still in place, and Enyalius couldn't help but start to smile back, ready to answer with something cocky that would downplay what just happened, but she never got the chance. At the slightest movement of Achelois eyes she whipped her head around to see what was going on, taking in the creature as quickly as she could, analyzing him for weaknesses, but she didn't even get enough time for that before it extended its arm and something dark escaped its grasp and crashed into the ceiling. Her eyes narrowed, looking to the stalactites above them, tracing out the likely path of the blast,  and grabbed Achelois. Pulling her close, all awkwardness of the previous moment gone, she threw herself backward and rolled them both out of the way as stone crashed all around them, then pulled her to her feet to dash from the room, running right past the figure, stopping only when she was sure they were out of range.

She put herself between Achelois and the creature, her sword materializing in her hand as she dropped into a more defensive posture.

It hissed at them, a threat and a deal, and Enyalius smirked in response. "My, how generous! What do you think, Achelois?"

[Advanced]Strength Achelo10
"Ah well, seeing as I've still got a brain I'll have to decline your offer."  Achelois flushed her hair off her shoulder and grinned at her companion.  It seemed however that their host didn't find this a pleasant answer and responded by shooting more if his webs up at the ceiling.  The stalactites fell in dangerous bundles of destruction.  Both senshi dodged though they experienced minor wounds.

This pattern continued with minor attempts by Enya to attack the explosive chaotic agent.  However he was too fast and she was met with explosions that she barely dodged in one piece.  Again and again they dodged his web only to land in his trap... Direct explosions to the face or be crushed by falling rock spears?  Finally their gracious host, having thought the two down for good, retired back to his planning room.

Enyalius
[Advanced]Strength Enyali12

A convulsion pulled her knees closer to her chest, the floor scraping against her exposed thighs, the warm, sticky liquid cooling beneath them; she choked back the groan in her throat – she wouldn’t give them the satisfaction – and after a difficult breath, she picked her cheek up off of the coarse rock and stretched her neck to see what had been in front of her.

Achelois lay sprawled in a similar fashion halfway across the chamber, her blonde hair covering most of her body. Enyalius waited, staring hard to detect signs of life, biting the inside of her cheek to keep the strain of her neck from overpowering her. Breathe, she commanded, Breathe! You’re not dead – you can’t be dead! She pushed her thoughts outward, willing her to move, to stir, to prove that Enyalius hadn’t led her to her death with this stupid idea. C’mon, you heartless goddess, she willed. Her vision swam and Achelois’s crumpled form blurred; she blinked and her cheek hit the porous rock as tears slid, hot and wet, down her dirty face. She had failed her. This had been all her idea, and now it was all her fault. They would die here, failed senshi – Liera had abandoned her planet and her people, and convinced Achelois, who was never meant to leave hers, to do the same, and not only had they not managed to help anyone, but she – but Achelois -- . Her vision swam, wallowing in the months spent on the bright green planet and the friend she had made there. Some Sailor Senshi she was.

“I dare you to move,” a raspy voice breathed softly.

She held her breath and waited, not sure if what she heard was real or imaginary.

“I dare you to move,” the voice repeated, the soft voice cracking, and Enyalius grunted as she lifted her head once again to see Achelois looking back at her, green eyes glowing from within. “I dare you to move,” she said again, the shine in her eyes growing brighter. Enyalius choked back a sob, and pulled her arms beneath her body, pushing herself onto her knees, where she paused, breathing heavily. She’d move. She didn’t think she could – she knew she couldn’t before, but if Achelois were alive, she’d do whatever she asked. “I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor,” Achelois continued, and Enyalius pushed, her muscles protesting, but she staggered to a stand, moving her legs sluggishly to keep her balance. Achelois’s eyes grew brighter and brighter, their green enveloping all she could see, and the more she looked, the stronger she felt.

Soon her breath was coming easy, her muscles repaired and rested, stronger even than before. She started towards Achelois, but the blonde shook her head and motioned weakly to the next room, where their adversary was putting his finishing touches on his plan. Enyalius nodded, cracking her knuckles, and strode towards the room as her sword materialized in her hand. She’d be back to help Achelois up after they finished their mission.
The End
