Spoilers for the end of the manga version of Sailor Moon!

There's been a lot of debate around who Sailor Cosmos actually is. I'm proposing this topic not to argue about who she is, but rather to ask you guys for your reactions and opinions.

I'm writing an article on my personal blog soon about my experiences with the Sailor Moon community. After spending some time here, I feel like you guys are a little more critical and open to elements of the franchise we love. So, here we go. Here's the question.

Let's propose that Sailor Cosmos was for some reason revealed to be Sailor Moon herself. Not a reincarnation or daughter. I mean literally Sailor Moon. For this argument, we'll assume that Sailor Cosmos is Sailor Moon from the long distant future, fleeing from her second battle with Chaos. In order to cope with loss, she goes back in time to be with her younger self and convince her to destroy the cauldron so that her suffering never occurs.

What I'm asking is not if this theory makes sense or works with the logic of the universe or your interpretation of the story. The question is, how does this make you feel? Emotionally, is this the sort of future you'd be content with? If not, why does the possibility of Sailor Cosmos being a future version of Sailor Moon upset you? Thanks!

That was my original interpretation. In a way, I feel like it can bring some depth to Usagi's character. Even she has a point where she can feel hopeless and want to give up.

I also feel like I would be happy with this, mostly because she does regain hope and go back.

I'd be for it if not for the canon-logic issue x.x

I personally don't feel it's one that works for me, because I see Cosmos as existing in a really distant future, and I've always imagined Usagi's very long life reaching its peak as Neo Queen Serenity (at which point she cannot transform and battle anymore). I find it difficult to accept emotionally that she might be an eternal soldier because 1) nobody should be actually immortal for that long 2) she already has a successor and 3) she deserves her happy ending after everything she's done.

I think Cosmos is Sailor Moon in a really distant future,a future where Princess Lady Serenity has become Queen.That's the only way i think Cosmos can fit into the normal timeline.If she is Sailor Moon from an alternate universe (a universe were she never became Neo-Queen Serenity in the first place) that would make me annoyed because A) As Mercury said,she deserves a happy ending after all the times she's had to save the world B) Chibi Moon can become Sailor Moon in her place (or Kousagi Moon if anyone else likes to include Parallel Sailor Moon in normal timeline) and C) Being Queen of the whole Earth seems like a good enough future to me.

That's how I've always seen it. It's either that, or she's a Sailor Moon from a different universe.
