SOOOOO... I decided to try my hand at coloring.  I thought "How hard can it be.  I did this in GIMP and realized that I am not 100% sure what I am doing.  Any advice or critique would be more than appreciated  

I know I over did the colors on the hair, but I am rather proud of the skirt

You do such pretty work here. The first one you colored of Usagi I like better than the second one. I agree with the mixture of the two though. It's just such pretty artwork, I am amazed at your coloring!

how do you do the manga coloring so well with Gimp? i used gimp and mine aren't that good

Well, I looked at a lot of GIMP tutorials. Also, just a crap ton of blending.

Also (esp. with the bus one) I just use the pen tool to outline and then just paint bucket the color into the space with lower opacity, so it just does the work for me.

I dont know if I am actually doing anything special

more like the easy way. i color it in all with the paint brush tool.. it hurts my hand after a while and takes for ever. if i could use the paint can it would be easy.

so how do you blend?

To blend, I would make the color on top in another layer, and then use the blend tool a bunch!

I initially tried to color with the paintbrush tool, but because I am on a laptop with no mouse or tablet, it was just too frustrating. Also...if the easy way works, why not?

Also, when I first saw other people's I thought I couldn't do it. All you need is some patience and a day with nothing else to do! And remember everyone will have their own style so try not to compare too, too much

I just use the stupid paintbrush and color over the picture (on my laptop, and it's so hard!) And I can't take off the weird sparkle texture thing...

Your manga coloring is really nice o.o but it would look much better if you add shadows and light, i bet the result would be even more gorgeous
