Today most video game consoles and handhelds have backwards compatibly. Once you get your hands on the new system, you end up playing your older games on the new system. Or you buy older games off the system's store.

But there are days where hey I'm going to kick it old school and play it on my retro system. Does anyone else do this? Do you only play your older games on the system they were made for? Like I still have my Gamecube and played my games on it rather than using my Wii. I have a Wii U and I still play my Wii games on the Wii. However with my handhelds I play the older games on the newer handhelds. Just because they function better.

So today I was like I want to do the pokemon challenge and it's Emerald! Why not play it on the GBA SP for the heck of it? Man it feels so weird to hold it. I can't remember the last time I used it. My GBA collection is small and I usually play those games on my DS lite.   

Whenever I go back to play The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, I always hook up my Gamecube. Even though I'd be using the same controller anyway if I used the Wii, I guess it just puts me in the perfect nostalgic mindset for re-visiting a game from my childhood. Plus it's fun to carry the Gamecube around like a luchbox :P

I love the Gamecube! It's my favorite my console. To this day it's the easiest Nintendo console to transport. It fits into its box so easily. The Wii is nightmare to pack up again. I have yet to transport my Wii U. I bet that's a nightmare as well. >.>

The newer consoles such as the xBox 1 and the ps4 have actually removed backwards compatibility which is really sad, but it kept the price of a ps3 up so I could sell mine recently.

I think that's just dumb especially for people who don't own the past consoles.

Exactly. I mean why have 2 consoles if you're going to upgrade when you can have just one. I don't know what Microsoft and Sony were thinking. It's part of the reason I'm hesitating to get a ps4.

I get most gamers would have the last console so maybe that's their mindset? I have all my Nintendo consoles still, but Nintendo is pretty good with letting the new console play the last console games.

I have to recently sell my wii and my ps3 to be able to pay bills this month soo no, I don't think that's true lol most would yes, but it still sucks.

And they are still releasing games for the ps3 too so it's like, a total money grab, because people are still going to buy ps3 systems.

Nintendo still sells DSis and Wiis. However I don't see a lot of those systems like I use to.

The only DSi's I"ve seen have been refurbished sold in stores like Gamestop/EB games.

You can buy them new at Wallmart still. Or at least I saw them the last time I checked their gaming area. On the Nintendo website you can buy a mini Wii. I feel like that's more of a collector thing.

I was gonna say, that mini wii has to be a collectors thing, I have't seen it lol. I"m shocked Walmart still sells DSi they're so behind and they probably have stock their trying to get ride of.

Wallmart has a sad gaming selection. At least the one near me does. Their selection of Nintendo games is insulting.

I've been to several in Canada and they really do. I tend to goto EB games which is the Canadian equivalent of Game Stop.

It's still kind of related because we're talking about the types of products that people are selling which can relate back to older consoles. or older games really.

I think it if you want older consoles, you literally have to track down independent game stores because not only will these guys stock a lot of newer games, but they specialize in older games for a variety of systems and buying and selling old systems. There was one in Buffalo that my friend and I liked to go to on occasion.

Yeah there are stores like that in the States. They can be hard to find though.

Not too many in Canada, maybe in some of the bigger cities but like the US they are hard to find.
