Could you imagine this as their last night on Earth together? She sneaks away from the Moon Kingdom to see him, pulls him from whatever he's doing to take a walk together, to hold hands, to see the ocean (o_o which she specifically mentions as a thing she loves about Earth in the manga WHY CRYSTAL WHY neverstop), because she's realized that this the last time they can be together like that. Political tensions run high, whispers of war are on the wind - and she looks up to see a rainbow around the Moon and can't help but feel hopeful that somehow it'll all work out, but she knows that it can't. The dreams they had together, the moments that they shared and the future they wished for - it all melts away in the face of looming reality and the harsh winds of anger and jealousy and power that's stirring Earth into a frenzy.

In what she believes to be their final moments together, she promises herself that she won't cry as she tells him goodbye, and promises to herself that even if the worst thing to were happen, either because of their love or in spite of it, she will never regret what happened and never give up on them.

Has anyone else noticed though how the scenes where serenity and endymion are looking at each other with the silver millennium in the backround and in the reflection is sailor moon and tuxedo mask with crystal tokyo respectively??  (and the opposite later when the past becomes the reflection)

Speaking of the song, has anyone listened to the off-vocal version of it? If you haven't, I really recommend it since there are quite many small details in the melody that I personally didn't notice in the vocal version of the song. Especially the off-vocal version sounds very Silver Millennium-esque with the classic instruments, and I like that a lot!

Those are really pretty signatures. I agree about the promo pics. I'm surprised that moonbows actually exists. That's really cool.

I'm not sure if this has been noted, but Osabu revealed that the one who wrote lyrics for Moonbow is Naoko Takeuchi, using a pen name (白薔薇sumire). I personally think it is nice that Naoko got to write lyrics for a Crystal song, like she did for quite many songs of the old anime.

Here are the full lyrics for Gekkou. The part starting with "Let’s shout our battle cry" really reminds me of the war that ended as Silver Millennium's fall, and it catches the moment well together with the melody's sudden change in this calm song.

^^' I actually prefer the lyrics I pulled from the hulu ending to Miss Dreams for the way the lines were broken and the overall feel -- I updated the first post with Miss Dream's lyrics for everyone to see XD.

x.x maybe it's because I got swept away by the first translation, especially as the song broke up the 'just the two of us; a sudden sorrow swept over me' as two different thoughts in the same section, whereas the more literal translation from Miss Dream has them belonging to the same thought - 'i miss it being just the two of us', which lets my imagination run nowhere. u.u no longing to have whatever time they can get together then suddenly remembering what was going on in the bigger picture, just that she misses spending time alone with him. Which i mean can lend itself to that same general effect, but brings none of the outside picture and the gravity of the situation upon them, kinda just has a feeling of short, succinct missing him.  x.x no hint of war and whatnot. sad.     XD Also I totally prefer 'hanging in the sky' to 'up in the sky above us', and 'I promise I won't cry' to just 'I won't cry' - it feels like she has to exert more of an effort if she has to promise herself. Kudos to flowery translators XD

  they're so different and yet similar?  Like I can see the connection between foam and them being at the ocean sea keeping translations separate but I had to stop and think a moment to sort out the simile -- she's comparing dreams collapsing in a headwind to (sea)foam melting away on that starry night, but my head's like '._. but I know what sea foam melting looks like and have no idea what collapsing dreams look like; I think this simile is backwards'  wherein the hulu translation I'm like SINGING AN ANGELIC CHORUS because of course the winds are against them - their romance is forbidden! And Dreams are Fragile, especially if your dream is being with that person you're in that forbidden romance with! XD So on a clear night, when things ((those sudden sorrows)) suddenly hit home, your dreams melt away. She knows how impossible that dream of being together is now, and that she can compare to the sea foam disappearing on the beach between her toes.

Also totally like hulu's translation more with the last segment - it's like a daring promise - ((italics for emphasis in differences)) 'even if the world has gone asleep, I will never stop singing.' It's just heroic and romantic and gaaaaah, and then juxtaposed with the soft "I hope I will meet you again," to me, it's showing that she will fight as hard as she can, and she'll keep on fighting to be with him, but she recognizes it's not in her control. Whether they meet again is completely up to chance, and that they had dared go against the gods in their romance, she probably sees it as a futile effort, yet she'll keep on singing and hoping anyway because that's who she is.
The more literal translation seems more passive about it and that makes me whisper 'booo'.

I remember the first time I watched the ending, I felt the whole thing was just sooo beautiful <3 This puts it in a whole new light in such a good way. *Tries not to tear up* xD

Moonbow is a beautiful song. One of my favorite anime ending songs.

It took awhile, but it grew on me. It is a nice song.
