When I first saw the Viz announcement I had to:

1) Check I wasn't still sleeping
2) Check it wasn't April fools day :/

I cannot wait to see this new dub. I've deciding I'm going to watch it subbed as Viz releases it on Neon Alley, I watched 1 and 2 last night and will watch 3 and 4 tonight. Think I might re-read my manga as well

It seems like Viz are investing a lot of money in this so I have high hopes for the voice actors - can't wait to hear some of the villains!

I haven't really been following all this that closely and am trying to catch up. So Viz has the original footage, just new dub voices? But this has nothing to do with the Sailor Moon Crystal coming in July right?

Viz has the rights to Sailor Moon. They are going to redub all 200 episodes with a new voice cast uncut. Right now they are streaming the Japanese version subbed on Hulu and on their website. Each monday they will upload 2 episodes. They also have the rights to Crystal which is its own thing. So I guess they will dub it once all 26 episodes have aired.

Viz will also be releasing the entire entity of the Sailor Moon anime from season 1 - 5 on DVD and Bluray. There will be a nice collectors bundle and then a more mass marketable version of DVDs. They have been given all footage and audio possible so they are remastering the video to look the best it can (imo it looks better than the 2009 remastered DVDs that were released in japan). And unlike the poor mono quality audio we had for the ADV boxset releases, the audio will be full stereo.

Who else can imagine Vic Mignogna (VA who voices Edward Elric, Tamaki Suoh, ect.) for Tuxedo Mask?

Also I think Vic is with Funimation?  But don't credit me on that info. I just notice his work tends to always be Funimation licensed stuff.

agreed with this. the ep I saw on Monday looked pretty clear and that was just on the net. I am so excited for these DVDs and know they will cost an arm and a leg, but its so worth it. I gotta get caught up on the other eps though. So excited to see who they cast. I hope for new faces kind of, let them make a name for themselves. Please don't bring back Linda for moon, I am sorry but her VA as moon was so annoying to me.

Thanks for posting this interview, it was a good read! Glad that the English dub team seem like they are putting in a lot of effort and care.

It part hints that a voice actor may reprise their role. I didn't think all of the dic or clover way voices were bad but was kinda hoping it would all be new actors! The people being interviewed seemed to be excited about The Usagi and Mamoru voices which is great!

I have Hulu Plus so I'm enjoying being able to watch it on my television. Not the biggest fan of dubs, but I'm looking forward to this new dub! I'd like to hear their voices in English again and stick to the Japanese content compared to the watered down American version.

I read that the first 2 episodes of the 90's anime are going to be released tomorrow dubbed. I am excited to see episode 2 in english this time.

I think they are just screening those episodes at a con, as part of the revelation of the cast? But the dubbed episodes themselves will come with the DVDs.

Does anyone know when they plan to finish the series and release the DVDs?  I have the whole series on DVD but its really low quality and would LOVE to own a much nicer set.

I thought it would start coming out on DVD/Bluray again in the fall.

Why can't they release just a simple blu ray version... I want blu ray but I don't think the limited edition is worth the money. xP I might just have to get it though. It IS really nicely packaged (though i have to say I miss ADVs blue design of the 1st and 2nd season uncut box set, they are really nicely designed...and i wish they would incorporate the japanese logo somehow D:). I also am waiting for a complete series box set which is something i'd rather get...

also it might just be me but all the emphasis on "awesome" and "Loaded with awesomness!" and that kind of wording is kinda odd to me... don't ask why. It just seems like they are trying too hard. xD But I'm excited for this release. thanks for sharing the vid!

Honestly since the whole revival they've really tried to milk SM for all it's worth but that's whole different topic. LOL The ADV box sets were really well designed as well and you're right it would be nice if they incorporated the Japanese logo. My favorite designed sets were the Japanese 20th Anniversary DVD Box Sets. The simplicity of the slip cases with the silhouettes and the more elaborate DVD cases were a great combination. If VIZ did something similar I'm sure the box sets would be even more expensive. Nothing really beats the Japanese releases T^T I'm honestly just happy to finally own the entire series.

I'm glad I can just buy the DVDs. I don't see the point of buying something in Bluray if it wasn't made for it. It annoys me that they don't have a little paper thing for inside the DVD case.

well they remastered it for blu-ray (it looks even better than the japanese release imo), even if it wasn't made for blu-ray i find the quality tends to be higher and you can rip the video from the bluray at a higher quality than dvd. Buuut thats just me. Also I'm being kinda picky, it is really nice packaging. I just really really liked ADV's boxset packaging. I have the first boxset and its so nice.

I'm just grateful that there is a good, free version up. It's a nice alternative to the days of hunting it down online and barely getting through 20 episodes before it would be removed again!

Does anyone know if VIZ got the rights to dub Sailor Moon Crystal as well? I heard they did, but that might just be a rumor.

They do, Viz got the entire anime franchise's rights.
