| Mainly because of child and teenage memories. I grew in english dub so it's part of me. Plus, everytime I hear an english SM song, I remember that part of my own life when I watched the episode it played in for the first time. So it reminds me of both good and sad moment of my own existence. Sailor Moon have been a real therapy for me at that moment of my life, and of course, whenever I was sad, the show was there tu support me and make me think of better thoughts. Whenever I was happy, I still wouldn't miss a single episode. I've been feeling really attached to this version and its characters since it was the first one I discovered. It's only later I discovered the original Japanese version (And I am sure glad I did!) But if the english dub wouldn't have existed, I don't know how my passion for anime would have developped so I don't know if I would ever have been interested in the Japanese version. And probably would also my art be different today, because anime is such an inspiration in my art and my whole life. Those are my own reasons for me to watch and rewatch the english dub every once in a while. And of course, I rewatch the original version too every once in a while! |

| Normally, I like the Japanese subbed version of anime, but this is not the case with the anime shows I grew up with as a child. It feels and sounds all wrong when I watch Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z, Digimon, or Gundam Wing in Japanese. |

| I can sympathize with with JoJia's statement that without the dub she would not have found Sailor Moon (or at least that that time). It is the same for myself. However, with clear access to the Japanese original, I have to state quite flatly: there is no reason to watch the dub.
I'm sorry. I just feel that passionately about how much Sailor Moon was butchered and mistreated by the dubbing. Don't even get me started on the voice acting in the S-SuperS seasons.
And V-Babe, I amusingly feel JUST as you do! ... Except about Sailor Moon, ironically enough. But DBZ in Japanese is just not DBZ. But I digress. Ahem. |

| Perhaps for amusement and/or nostalgia. As Rebecca mentioned, however, there is no qualitative reason for watching the dub as opposed to the original material given that there are a number of superb fan subs readily available.
Overall, I would consider it a disservice to watch the North American dub for any length of time nowadays. The butchered dialogue, voices, and story lines are inexcusable.
Unless you enjoy listening to Serena yodel in the S season. |

| It's pretty much the same reasons for me. Nostalgia...memories of childhood. These days if I watch the dub, its for lols. No kidding. I can only really stand the first two season voices and the S and SuperS is just...kgjdfkljg. Poor Serena, because I rather enjoyed they kept the japanese music and some other things intact (minus...the whole "cousins" fiasco). The S and SuperS is a bit more faithful to the Japanese than say the original season and R, but the voices were much better for those seasons, imo. Also those were the seasons I grew up watching.
I'm with Jupiter when it comes down to the fact tha tI will only really watch the sub if I want to watch Sailor Moon. And I'm in complete agreement with DBZ! I am watching Dragonball since I never watched it all and I've never watched them in japanese, so I'm watching them in japanese, but I do rather miss the english voices! Those are just the voices I hear and sometimes its odd to hear them in Japanese. /cough Anyway.
yeah. Nostalgia and lols is the main reason you want to watch the dub. And if you haven't watch the dub before, I say just watch it light heartedly and with a grain of salt. |

| I honestly prefer DBZ dubbed but I prefer sailor moon subbed, i suggest if you really want to try and like the series, don't watch it seriously, its targeted towards kids and some of the humor can be kind of dumb but, when you don't think about it you may have a better time enjoying it |

| Well, as a child I didn't know Sailor Moon was a Japanese cartoon until my brother told me. I was still a kid when he told me and was unaware of all things that they cut out. So I kept on watching the showed and I loved it! However, I did think it was a little bit cheesy like the Sailor Moon says thing at the end of an episode. When I discovered the Japanese version I was at awe. The story was so much better and things weren't so cheesy. Today I really can't go back and watch the dub. Not because of the edits and the voice acting (although I can watch the S and SuperS dub time to time ) it's because of all the slang and trash talk. Dic had the worst trash talk and Cloverway went crazy with the slang.
Now, to get to the point to my reply. I don't think anyone can you teach you to love the English dub. Everyone is different when it comes to the sub v dub in the anime universe. For me I like both. Sometimes I prefer a dub or sometimes I prefer the sub. Or sometimes I can watch both. |

| Pretty much hat JoJia said, I know a lot of people who did this and I am thankful for the dub even though so many bash it. Or I probably wouldn't be in the fandom or know anything about anime. I also don't think it would have come back without it. |

Its Terri's first con and who knows if she will be coming out of hiding again... My parents are all like no you shouldn't go you need money for your wedding. blah blah but to give up this experience? Seriously? Its not even going to be expensive with 4 other girls? nahh My fiance is meeting all of us down there. :3 Everyone is getting excited especially Me, My cousin, and my friend Lisa. Because we a super Sailor Moon Fans. My other friend Kassie likes Sailor Moon too but I dont know if she will be all about Terri all weekend. ( Sorry as you can see I'm excited lol ...) |

| I love the english dub for the names and voices. Any other reason? Yes for when you watch it you laugh really hard for it sounds soo silly but at the same time you gotta love it! and for the really tender moments (even though they're a little cheesy) make you feel all warm inside. I don't know for people who watched the sub can back me up for I can't watch the sub ( I know I hate myself for it too! I can't get into the Serena's japanese voice at all! and the names ) when I say you can't get that same feeling of silliness and warmness when watching the sub. I love Terri Hawkes as Serena for she has both sides of her. She can do silly, whiny, dizzy Serena and then she can do heroine, brave, serious, determined, bold, elegant (When princess Serenity) Sailor Moon/Serenity. I love all the voice actors form the dub at least the girls. They all fit with the personality for Mina is soft and cute, Lita is tough but still lady like, Raye is caring and sincere and Amy is sweet, shy and smart. I'm actually happy that I watched the dub instead for I would have never got to experience what the dub does have to offer and it showed me the way my best friend (Serena hehe) would sound in english and I love it! However I am sad for I can never love the sub. I hope maybe this will make you appreciate the dub a little more or maybe even be able to love it Fun Fact: I can do Terri Hawkes Impression of Sailor Moon/Serena |

| I also grew up with the dubbed version and without it I wouldn't even be here on this forum right now hehe But, I once watched a comparison of the dub vs. sub on youtube where this person had taken parts of a vital R episode and showed it in clip by clip sections just how much it had been changed around.
I was so surprised that I started to watch the subbed version because I really wanted to see this less-dulled version of a series I loved. It was so awesome to watch and I still can't believe how much was changed between the two versions. Although there are certain episodes that even when I watch it in the subbed version, I can hear the dub version voices anyway... xD
But to say that the subbed version can't get the same kind of silliness as the dubbed is strange to me =o I think both versions have all kinds of fun and silliness and cuteness within them! <3 I just view them as different versions of a same universe, though I personally would watch the subbed version over the dubbed any day =]
(I think I got a little off-topic. I apologize ^^;; ) |

I can go on and on about how much I love Terri Hawkes as Serena/Sailor Moon but anywho, that's why I said for people who watched the sub can you tell me that it has silliness and warmness in the sub like the dub? You answered me very clearly for as you said it does so I'm glad about that! Yes they are in the same universe but are two different shows but with the same heart <3 P.S.- For the last two ep. of Season 1 in sub I muted the noise and as I was reading the subtitles, I had the whole DiC cast in my head and replaced their Japanese names with the english ones XD |

| How about for Chibi Usa's voice in Sailor Moon S? I don't think it's the right voice for Chibi Usa, but that doesn't stop me from thinking it's one of the most adorable things I've ever heard. It doesn't even sound over the top or forced! |

| Well, I can't really tell you how love it because I watched English dub like two years ago and I feel in love with it instantly. Now I just started watching the original, it's very good, but for some reason I just can't adjust to it, like I did with the dub. The reasons why I like the dub is because I like the names, the theme song, and I like how they would play Moonlight Densetsu throughout the first half of the series. Yes, it was overplayed, but idk, it gave it a mysterious aura imo,and I liked that . I like the name Serena. I wouldn't say that it's an uncommon name, but it's different from the usual, and the name has so much depth to me because "serene" means calm, and the Sailor Moon series makes me feel calm, warm inside, sentimental, happy, and most of all the series has helped me with my anxiety, and the name is short for Princess Serenity, so atleast the english name aren't insignificant . Another thing is that I like Luna's voice. Even though she is suppose to be like Usagi age, it just gave me a mysterious, witchy feel to the series. I personally can't see Luna as a teenager, even in the original. Her english voice kind of fits a little better to her guiding personalitty, but this is just my opinion . "Meatball Head" is a very catchy, and cute nickname for Usagi, and I also liked Sailor Says at the end . - sailor swifty wrote:

| I watched the english dub mainly because most people in the fandom grew up with it. (I got through the serie with the Glénat manga and the french dubbed / japanese subbed anime.) I only saw the first season by DiC and liked it. Sure, some censoring was weird, Serena has a slighly different personallity from Usagi, and the whole thing is more childish overall, but it's still pretty much the same. (I admit I think the dub made Zoicite's death even more emotional :B) I'm pretty much pro-dub No dubs sucks in my opinion. Not even the uber-censored korean dub. I nejoy seeing what every versions take from or give to the serie. Even if it can got on some purist's nerves. |

| As much as I can sometimes poke fun at it and have a habit of talking about the stuff that I now have come to not like so much about the English dub, I would be lying to say it doesn't hold a special place in my heart. Yes, it did introduce me to the series as a whole and I will be forever grateful, but there's so much more to it than that. During its first run on Toonami, with the first arc and R, I was going through that immensely horrible stage of life called middle school (6th grade, which was the worst). There, I was picked on relentlessly in science class, constantly chibi at by my teacher in math, and having problems with a particular friend who would, for no reason, go several weeks without speaking to me. One of my great joys at the time was to be able to come home after school and watch Sailor Moon. I loved the characters, the story, the animation. It was all just so *pretty*! And a great way to forget about the crap at school. Then, during the summer when the S and SuperS arcs were airing, I was going through another rough spot. Specifically, I had a series of several surgeries that more-or-less kept me in the hospital for three months. They (and things that happened whilst I was in the hospital) were severe enough that I needed a respiratory therapist to come to my room regularly to run me through some breathing exercises. I hated the exercises and thought they were annoying, but on Saturdays I got to reward myself with watching Sailor Moon afterward. So, yes, even though now there are some things that I don't particularly like about the dub, I do not and could not ever openly hate it. As to the title of this thread, I agree with everyone. It's not something you can really be taught, anymore than you can be taught to love any show, book, or whatever. You have to develop that love on your own. |
