Welcome to the Official GC Olympics Galaga Game Thread!!

I will be your host for the game of Galaga this first week!!!

WHAT IS GALAGA?
"Galaga is a fixed shooter arcade game [that] puts the player in control of a space ship which is situated at the bottom of the screen. At the beginning of each stage, the area is empty, but over time, enemy aliens will arrive in formation, and once all of the enemies arrive on screen, they will come down at the player's ship in formations of one or more and may either shoot it or collide with it. During the entire stage, the player may fire upon the enemies, and once all enemies are vanquished, the player will proceed to the next stage. The objective of Galaga is to score as many points as possible by destroying insect-like enemies. The player controls a starfighter that can move left and right along the bottom of the playfield. Enemies swarm in groups in a formation near the top of the screen, and then begin flying down toward the player, firing bullets at the fighter. The game ends when the player's last fighter is lost, either by colliding with an enemy or one of its bullets, or by being captured." (copied from wikipedia)


THE GAME RULES:
1. Game Mechanics: Space Bar to shoot. Right & Left Arrows to move.

2. Only 15 entries per participant will be accepted, so make them count!! Once your entries are sent, post here that they have been sent in bold so I know to look for them incase they don't show up in my inbox. THE CUTOFF FOR ENTRIES IS MONDAY, FEBRUARY 24TH, AT 12AM EASTERN. (Timezone Converter)

3. I will be averaging the total points scored only, but I need to see a full game screenshot for it to count. Example:
4. Screenshots will be accepted through PM or by email at [Only admins are allowed to see this link] to ensure entry. Only one PM or email per participant please!! Do not send less than 15 total screenshots, you will be disqualified. If you send by PM, please simply insert each image one under the other. If by email, simply attach the screenshots via Attach File. Title your entry "GALAGA ENTRIES".

5. The StrategyWiki is your friend! Use this wiki for tips and tricks on how to score big points!!

Infinite tries, but only 15 final entries, so you can practice all week!! Feel free to send me your entries at the end of the week and have fun!!  

so if we have a single score that is better then our avarge then can we just send that single one in

This one is so fast xD Give me a controller and the regular paced game and I can do much much better! haha  

It's fun though, I love Galaga xD

today it seems a bit faster but when i played the other day some games seemed easier.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed. Cause i used to play this game all the time as a kid. But it probably was cause it was an older version.

oh my goodness, yes!   it's so frustrating. i keep trying to search for maybe an online emulator of the one i remember, but all the game sites i come across have that same one!! the farthest i've gotten so far is beginning of the third level.  and this version keeps loading itself over and over when you lose!!!

i'm so sorry guys, i'll pick a better game next time

you know, i had originally set it at 20 screenshots, but i figured everyone would think that's too many files and too much trouble. there is still time left in the week, i mean, i can totally change it to 20, but as of now, it is no more or less than 15. thank you for letting me know    i should perhaps change the title of the game and put an [updated rules] instead of the big ol' red obnoxious font.

 

edit: i thought i hadn't actually been clear on it, but rule #2 states " Only 15 entries per participant will be accepted, so make them count!!" no need to edit!

Aw Blue its ok, its still fun. xD Just makes this one extra challenging and worth the gold!

yes please!! i know it seems like a lot, but I wanted it that way so i can make a better judgment based on an overall average. Just giving 5 or 10 seemed too flimsy. it's a very fast pace version and these are the GC Olympics!! better for it to be more challenging  

I'm also most ready to send mine in, going to play a few more rounds to replace the ones i saved eairer since i have gotten a bit better

Oh no, but I thought the deadline wasn't until tomorrow (24th)? =o!

I guess shes going by the exact 12:00 AM (her time) = 2/24 for her.

correct!! haha  12am my time which is… what, 11pm central, 10 pm western? am i doing that right? ._.

well if you were eastern time zone, then yeah it'd be 11 pm central. ^^
