As a brief disclaimer, NBC considers this show "TV-14 V" which means "Parents Strongly Cautioned - This program contains some material that many parents would find unsuitable for children less than 14 years of age. Contains Violence." However, it is a network television show and thus does not contain anything explicit in keeping with US broadcast requirements.- Mads Mikkelsen as Dr. Hannibal Lecter:
Has anyone else watched/is anyone else a fan of NBC's Hannibal?I started watching this show when it came out earlier this year. I really enjoy Thomas Harris's books and the
Silence of the Lambs movie, so when I heard a rumor that there was going to be television show based around the books I was wary. I really adore Anthony Hopkins in the role of Dr. Lecter, and I couldn't really image anyone else playing that character. (I'm not fond of
Manhunter, the original film based on the novel
Red Dragon.)
I eventually watched the first episode because I was up at 5am after driving my husband to work from my mother's house on a Saturday, and the first two or three episodes were free on-demand on my mother's cable. I
looooooooooooooooved it.
First of all, the show is
gorgeous. The set design, the camera angles... So pretty. The use of contrast, and colour, and texture, and light, and dark... everything is dramatic. Even the murders (and there are plenty of them) are beautiful.
The scripts are interesting. There's a nice blend of lines from Thomas Harris' novels and original information. This show takes place prior to the events in
Red Dragon, and they've done a wonderful job building up background. They've added modernization when necessary, but nothing overwhelming. I really love the dialogue and the way the characters interact.
The food (Dr. Lecter cooks all the time~) is amazing. The food stylist and consultant do an A+ job. Even if everything is people.
Another thing that I've really enjoyed about this show is the level of interaction between the producers, cast, and fans. The ever-posting official NBC Hannibal Tumblr has some of the most hilarious tags ever, and they sometimes engage in friendly banter with other Tumblr users and blogs. The Twitter has a similar level of activity and silliness, and they've live-tweeted events like the San Diego Comic Con panels. Bryan Fuller is one of the executive producers of the show, and he's really darling about interacting with fans. (He proudly wore several fans' flower crowns during panels at SDCC. XD)
Overall I am
going crazy waiting for Season 2.
