Probably one of the best and most unique RPG series I have ever played. Great music, likable characters and many touching and funny scenes. A must play for anyone who likes RPGs, especially Pokemon fans.

For anyone who doesn't know what it is, it's the game series Ness in Super Smash Bros. comes from.

and Lucas! I love the mother series  I'm not sure how I feel about Mother 3...good game...but deep down I still kinda wanted Earthbound 64 even though it didn't look that great and probably wouldn't have done very well :p

Mother 3 was damn depressing.... But i think it would have really been epic if the final version kept the unused sprites for Giygas!

My favourite of the serie was the 3nd one though. You can't outawesome Jeff and Paula.

I have never actually played it all the way through (i have played about 2 hours of it though), but Earthbound/Mother 2 is probably one of my most favorite RPGs to watch while it's being played. The music is entertaining, the monsters are weird, people say funny things, its just an overall awesome game. If only we'd get a remake/new/something!

I would love a new game for the wii u...I feel like earthbound would be a good game that could idealize the game pad, especially since you can play on the game pad but not be playing it on tv (like watching another channel)

I do think those games are or were being ported to the virtual console store for the wii u

I did hear about Earthbound being put on the virtual console on WiiU, but i always cried "WHY NOT ON WII". Oh well thats what the homebrew softmod is for. xD

They're releasing the second game in the trilogy in the Wii U Virtual Console later this year. We only got Earthbound/Mother 2. They were originally going to release Mother 1 in the autumn of 1991 state-wide, after multiple delays. However, it would've been released a month after the SNES was released and sales would've suffered.

I always want to play Mother 3 and see how good it is. Only played the first two games and beat the first one. I'm stuck in the desert and the game's difficulty spikes there. Didn't give up but I'm playing many other games and hopefully I come back to it.

You can get a emulator to play Mother 3, my bf has played it.

they also have Mother 1 in Japanese...I'd have to check to see if they have Mother 3.

It requires a plugin so whether or not you download it is up to you. But you can play basically any older game and if you get an account you can save your games...I haven't signed up...but I played the first LoZ game on here and it runs very VERY well <3

Also, you can download a translated rom of Mother 1. The BF was playing that via emulator as well. Just doing a simple google search. We got it by downloading this huge torrent of NES, SNES, Gameboy, etc. etc. Its 10 gbs of old games... If you have a wii, installing Homebrew is STUPIDLY easy, so there ya go, Earthbound on your tv. xD

EarthBound was just released today on the Wii U's Virtual Console! I don't have the system yet but I'm saving up.

I have the Wii U but I already have a ROM of it downloaded. Don't wanna repeat a few hours of gameplay to catch up to the Dusty Desert Dunes.

 yeah I softmodded my wii and it is pretty easy...unless you run into 6 hours worth of issues like I did :p but mine had to deal with usb loader and such, not emulators. I did however download Earthbound to play and I love it. I'll probably invest in Mother 1 and 3 at some point in the near future

Never played any of the Earthbound games. I only know of Ness' existence thanks to Super Smash Brothers.

I know, though it helps it still have the Franklin Badge on Ness or Jeff.

Oh just a quick update: Just got to Deep Darkness and plan on playing through that this weekend. Hopefully will be ready to fight giygas by the end of the month. I'd like to start mother 3 by October.

Also anyone know where I can get a NES Rom of Mother 1 with an english patch that is compatible with NES GX on the wii?

There is a prototype of Mother 1 that is in English. There's no patching necessary. However, I don't know if it's compatible with NES GX or not. :\

yeah first time I exited the dungeon I was out of PP...both Jeff and Paula were unconscious and there were enemies EVERYWHERE...I made it this time though
