| Alright, we all know how Japanese LA TV shows are... with erm... production value we'll call it. (PGSM did quite well IMO however) One thing I'm on the fence about are the attacks... I just think they lacked a bit of 'oomph' that the transformations had... I dunno, just my opinion. What do ya'll think?
(This is Star's attempt to revive her sections XD) |

| Well, considering the budget, I agree with Aurae; both the attacks and transformations were nicely done. And at the end, the characters and plot were the most important things IMO ^^' But yeah, at first the only thought in my mind was "OMG, what is that thing burning my eyes?" XD |

| I agree :p I honestly thought Moonlight Twilight Flash or whatever was kinda weird, and I thought it was strange that her legs usually look so long but during that attack she looked all short, almost like they shrank her to make her fit the screen or something :p |

| Let's be real....the whole thing was cheesy poopoo fakeness that even I, a super lover of PGSM (though not as big as Mi), laugh at. And that is cheesy poopoo fakeness is why certain people won't watch it. You can definitely tell it is a budget show. But then again...I'm pretty sure any drama in Japan honestly doesn't have a ton of bang for it's buck, either, especially if it is a fantasy or sci-fi drama. That's just how it is over there, I think. However, that just goes to show that fans, including us that like PGSM, like the show for it's content, not the special effects. We whole heartedly enjoy the story, the characters, etc. etc. Which to me, is most important |

| I like to imagine what it must have been like when they were actually blocking and later filming the actresses for the transformation and attack sequences. "Okay, stand here. Wave your arm. Wait, sorry. Let's do that again. Stand here. Wave your arm. Move your leg. Bend backwards. No, sorry, bend backwards differently." |

| I have to agree that when I first started watching PGSM, I was thrown off a lot by the fighting and the transformations and everything haha I even stopped watching after the second episode because I didn't really see the point xD But then I came back like a month later, and got into the heart of the story, and it's now my most favorite of the adaptions (for now, anyway :3 That might change with the new anime coming out! <3)
But I do have to say that Darkury's transformation is really beautiful to me. I LOVE that transformation. Also, the magic with the tambourines turning into weapons in the finale was really well done as well.
So, there's some weirdness and sillyness that either make you cringe or laugh, but there's also some really awesome effects too, in my opinion xD It's just that the majority of it is something you have to get used to first haha |

| Oh, I believe the terrible effects are just another charm. It only adds, 'cause it's something we can laugh about! Also, we have the budget thing. For their budget, they crazy good special effects!
And I have already named the girls' "fighting" style: Ballet Fu. Because... c'mon! As a martial artist, I can say THAT IS NO WAY OF DOING ANYTHING Ò.Ó
(and thanks, Mars for recognizing I'm the biggest PGSM fan here LOL) |

| I just finished watching it and I absolutely loved it! I love the story, I love the characters, I love the cheesiness, and I think the special effects are pretty good there at the end xD Like when they make Usagi pulse that golden light when the Princess takes over in her head? Way cool xD I would have to say that so far this is my favorite incarnation of SM |

| Yeah, that confused me for a while too. I kept expecting to see more of Nephrite's hair. And I think I mistook Zoisite for Kunzite as well - white hair, cape, etc. Basically just don't have anime expectations for anything in PGSM ^^ |

| I never really considered the effects in PGSM cheesy, but instead was always charmed by them. In retrospective, the show was pretty decent for the time, budget and target audience. Comparing it to other shows at the time, it was on an almost equal level with Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger, though still far from Kamen Rider Blade- but it was still a very good example of what Tokusatsu had to offer at the time. And it actually introduced me to the genre which I now love and enjoy and, if necessary, defend with all my might xD |

| I agree that the special effects and the CGI are pretty bad and unpolished, but if it's a low budget, then I can understand. I do love everyone's costumes, though. |

| CGI in Japan is always a bit behind what Western CGI can do- at least when it's used in live action productions and PGSM is no exception. But the special effects are totally fine, except for some minor moments that clearly didn't turn out very well due to the budget. They're practical effects, so they might not look as impressive as our digital western effects. But those effects do not only require hard work in planning and execution, they also add some form of realism to the shows. It just looks much more natural if explosions and enemies are actually there and not just added on the computer later. |

| I always thought the attacks weren't that bad, considering they were on a budget and it was back in 2004-2005, so they're bound to look a little more then dated. Either that, or they were kinda going back to their roots-if I remember correctly, power rangers had some pretty cheesy effects as well. It could have been homage, idk.
I always thought the transformations were unique, though. I mean, you're doing this over actual actors-I think they did great with the technology they had at the time. |

| I think the problem is that many people judge the effects from a 2015 standpoint of view. Back when I first watched PGSM, it was 2005 or 2006, so I wasn't really bothered. And these days, I'm watching even older shows with even lower budget. Personally, I loved the transformations and attacks. I was totally charmed and practiced the poses every day xDDD |

| ^Exactly. While it's not my favorite aspect of the sailor moon franchise, I can say that the special effects were done exceptionally well. (Except Luna and Artemis. They always looked a little too cheap when they were in full-motion, even by 2004-5 standards; but that may just be me.) |

| Yeah, the cats were not as great. But at least they looked simplified and cartoony due to their plushie look. If they hda used a more detailed, Salem-like doll and real cats... Imagine they had to animate those. PGSM's budget was extremely low compared to other established tokusatsu franchises, so I guess that was the best they could do. |

| I notice that the CGI gets a lot better in later episodes. Venus and Dark Mercury's transformations were beautiful, and a lot more polished. |

| Venus' transformation didn't even have that much CGI compared to the others, so I guess it was cheaper to produce in general and they might have used some of the remaining budget for Darcury. |
