| So I'm currently trying to read the Sailor V manga again and I realized that I somewhat liked it better over the Sailor Moon Manga. The story is at a slower pace and to me there seems to be better character development. Although I have only made it to chapter five. So which do you like better?
Note: I'm sorry if this topic doesn't belong here. I wasn't sure if this belonged in the Sailor V thread because to me this seem too general. |

| I actially like that Sailor Moon manga doesn`t drag forever like in the anime. I think there`s more development in V because there`s only one character lol overall I like both of them. They have different feelings for me.. idk how to explain |

| I felt like each arch in the sailor moon manga could have been longer a little bit. I just thought everything happened to quickly which is way I liked the anime better. Yeah fillers can be annoying, but fillers can be good when it comes to adding character development. |

| Well you have to remember too, that each of the chapters came out monthly, so, for example, the Dark Kingdom arc is 14 chapters long. That's a year and 2 months! |

| Well yeah, like Naruto, but it's a fine line between driving the plot and just frustrating filler. |

| I hate that kind of filler. I hate it when people think all filler is bad which isn't true. Filler can be nice if it's written well. |

| I liked the Sailor V manga better as well! I thought the first half of the manga was way better in general, but all of it was pretty good. I loved the episodic nature of the manga, and that it had really interesting side characters and subplots. Learning more about Minako is really nice too- it makes you wish all the Senshi had gotten their own story, haha. I'm really glad it's being released in the States, it's a great manga and it deserves just as much recognition as its better-known spinoff. <3 |

That's what I really like about it too. Like how in chapter two there was no enemy. - Quote :

I ready read it all. Although I do have some of the old volumes and they're falling apart! Hopefully the these won't have the paper falling out! Maybe I get the volumes that replace mine.... |

| I prefer the Sailor Moon manga. Maybe it's because Minako isn't my favorite soldier to begin with, or maybe because so much of it is slapstick up until the very end. That, and I tend to like manga with loads and loads of characters.
I am still glad I read the manga, though, because I did like it and I now have a lot more respect for Minako than I did before. I actually admire her a lot now. |

It's going to be a new translation and a lot more faithful to the original version than the old one. - Rachael wrote:

I always found Venus kind of disappointing in the anime (she just wasn't as cool as Mars or Jupiter, and didn't have brains or strategy to set her apart like Mercury), and even in the manga she still didn't stand out to me (but then again, not many characters stood out to me in the manga) until I read Sailor V. Then she immediately became my favorite character, at least in the manga continuity. I'd even go so far as to say she's a better character than Usagi in the manga. |

| I personally liked the sailor v manga better. I absolutely loved how it showed each girl remembering Serenity, especially when it went more in depth about the Moon kingdom. I wanted to see more about their past in the manga, especially because in CSV it gave us proof that there was something between Minako and Kunzite. <3 |

Really? I can see that in the first two archs, but in the last three I thought she was hilarious. Especially in S when she becomes drama queen because was targeted by the enemy. Sailor Venus is my favorite character. I love the fact that some people think she's a copy of Usagi, but in reality Usagi is somewhat based off of her. - Quote :

| I prefered sailor moon manga because in each chapter, there was something new added. Like a new character or a secret revealed. |

| I preferred the Sailor Moon manga. I think that Naoko's writing had more time to evolve and that she began it with a story that was always going to be more encompassing than the Sailor V storyline. I love both of them, but I'm more likely to reach for a volume of Sailor Moon than a volume of Sailor V if I want something to re-read. |

| I don't think it's fair... I guess...to compare both them because they both seem to be set up differently and have different goals. Each arc an SM is pretty much the same but with higher stakes as the adventure continues. Sailor V is pretty much enjoyable filler until the second volume which I haven't finished. SM is has a darker tone and is a lot more focused on drama and Miracle Romance while CSV is just focused on establishing Minako as a character and building her reputation as Sailor V. The character development in CSV is way better because its only focused on one person. Naoko either couldn't write more manga chapters for SM or just didn't want to. (I strongly agree with you Yami that there should have been more chapters. Not just for character development sake but for the story's lore as well. A lot of Naoko's ideas are great, the Moon Kingdom, Crystal Tokyo, Queen Serenity for example. But they could have been fleshed out more.) Everyone else besides Usagi, Mamoru, and Chibiusa lacks in character development as a result. I guess focusing on many different characters isn't her forte??? Tbh before reading CSV I was indifferent to Minako/Sailor V but reading it made me love her so much. I really wish she had made individual CSV-type stories for all the girls. Could you imagine it? A volume for both Michiru and Haruka before the Infinity Arc. Volumes for the other senshi that explored their personal lives and them stopping small ordinary crimes on their own. A VOLUME SHOWING THE OUTERS ADVENTURES IN RAISING BABY HOTARU. We could have had it all Naoko. We could have had it all.But to answer the question, I don't think either one of them is better than the other. However, I do think that CSV does a way better job of letting the audience actually get to know Minako than SM did for Usagi. |

| I prefer the Sailor Moon manga. While the Sailor V manga is fun, it was written here and there over the 6 or 7 years that Sailor Moon was running so it has a lot less continuity. I also find the villains (besides Phantom Ace) rather lackluster and some of the stories are really odd--like the one where everyone gains weight from the chocolate or the one where the student is in love with his teacher. |
