So a few big things happened today in the Star Wars universe... George Lucas signed over LucasFilms to Disney, a very interesting move...then not long later we find out that there are now plans for the 7th episode of the Star Wars films to be made!! Along with plans for the 8th and 9th.
The best part about it is...GEORGE LUCAS ISN'T DIRECTING THE DAMN THINGS. So they might not be as infamously terrible as the original trilogy! yay!
This link has a video of an interview with George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy: http://www.theforce.net/latestnews/story/The_Future_Of_Star_Wars_Movies_148651.asp
So Star Wars fans rejoice! We've got another film acomin'!

I'm still not sure how I feel about this. I mean I really love the original trilogy (it's cheesy and terrible, but it's part of its charm) and I liked the newer trilogy, but I just don't know. We shall have to wait and see ^^
One thing I do hope is they keep those sucky scene transitions. Even though they suck, they make Star Wars Star Wars haha

The original? Don't you mean the prequels? Episodes 4-6 were good. Episodes 1-3 were terrible.
I'm shock by this. I never saw this coming. Disney is now becoming the Evil Empire by taking over all forms of films.
I look forward to episode 7. I watched a video and the guy explained that Disney plans for this to take place far into the future. Make sense seeing how episode 6 concluded everything nicely.

The Star Wars universe was expanded through many many novels that are considered canon by George Lucas. Also, originally there were supposed to be nine movies all together. I'm not sure exactly what the plot George Lucas originally wanted, but I'm sure he had something in mine.

And I TOTALLY meant prequel trilogy. oops! Lol. I'm not really worried about Disney taking over stuff like this. They got marvel and that has been successful so far. Pixar was bought out by them and Pixar is still its own entity, it just has backing by Disney. Star Wars has long been needed to be taken out of the hands of George Lucas. I love the guy for creating the series, but over the years its just been slap in the face to fans over and over again. :/
Anyway, apparently, there are plans for even more movies after 7-9. But instead of dealing with the story lines that we know, it would maybe go into other stories, like for example, Yoda's Past, etc.
I'm a little excited to be honest! Star Wars has been pretty stagnant for the past few years as far as movies goes. All we've gotten is the Clone Wars cartoons and Star Wars: Old Republic Online (Which ended up not being nearly as great as anticipated...)

It's okay, Brit. We all make mistakes.
Oh, I'm okay with Disney owning Star Wars. I just think it's funny that Disney has an Empire of owning different companies.

Haha I know. But Disney just has the money and backing so I think the people that own those companies are like "well f***, this is a better deal" lol. Now George can go retired and do whatever the hell it is he wants to do. XD

But but but they should leave it at 6. The original 3 were the best and they didn't really need to make the other three. I'm not sure if this is going to be a good thing or a bad thing.

It was originally planned to be 9 movies...(I've known this since i was a kid o.o) There is a HUGE HUGE HUGE extended universe. Star Wars isn't just Luke, Leia, Han, Obi Wan, Anakin, etc... We've got the stories with Han and Leia's children... Luke forming the new Jedi Academy, Luke going to the dark side in order to understand it better and then coming back and if i remember correctly goes back again. Plus like tons of other great characters and stories.
The extended canon novels are just filled with so much material and we have no idea what George Lucas had originally intended for Stars.

Yeah...john has read almost all of them up until about 5years ago. I've only read a few of the novels, but they were good. I didn't know much about the continuity of them though so I had no idea what was going on. XD But yeah...there are TONS of novels. o.o

Well, after asking the BF, for the novels, he suggests to start with the Thrawn Trilogy.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thrawn_trilogy It's not directly what happens after Return of the Jedi, but its the first books written after Return of the Jedi. I've read the first one in this series (a long long time ago) and it was really good. Like you, I never knew what to read so I'd just get random books. xD There are also graphic novels of some of the novels written too. I have the one called "Dark Empire".
But yeah...the novels are great. I really should get back into reading them.
Edit: and here's a link to a timeline of all the books: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline_of_books

I am so excited. Star Wars, I can say, was definitely my first fandom. My father loved the movies (and saw them all as they came out); He still has a bunch of stuff from the original cinema release. He has this magazine with an interview with Lucas where he states his plans for 9 movies - so in my heart I've always wanted.. always known there were going to be 9. When the new trilogy came out in my teens, I went to every premier with my father and it was a super big deal for the whole family.
so many spoilers, omg:
I love love love the Thrawn Trilogy, jfc. It has potential for being a great followup trilogy, but I think it might be too.. young? I have a feeling, with Mark Hamill and co. being older now, that they might introduce the "new generation".
Han and Leia have twins (Jacen and Jaina) and a son, Anakin. Luke eventually marries Mara Jade (who I think we'll see!) and has a single son, Ben. They all train as Jedi (Leia as well) and the new Jedi Academy is a big deal.
The timeframe (and the actors ages) is perfect to explore the invasion of the Yuuzhan Vong; they are first real challenge and conflict for the New Republic.
I can see Legacy of the Force as potential material for a new trilogy. It takes place 40 years after the original, its been ~30 years so the actors are now more or less the proper ages..
Regardless, I have a feeling this new trilogy will see the birth of at least Leia's twins and the death of Chewbacca.
Okay, so since I googled Star Wars to write this reply.. I really need to rewatch these movies. So amazing.
/nerd
I'm totally sorry if this reply makes no sense ;; I'm too excited still to be coherent.
and since its my aim in life to go into movie special effects.. WHOA MY GOD I MUST WORK FOR DISNEY NOWWW.

Oh! I was just suggesting the Thrawn Trilogy as a gateway into the novels.
The BF said he once saw an interview a long time ago where Mark Hamill stated that Lucas apparently told him he wanted to wait until Hamill was old enough to be like Obi Wan Kenobi's age (in a New Hope) whenit comes to the 7-9th movies. Sooooooo Mark Hamill is getting there in age. If only I could find that interview...the BF doesn't remember where he saw it.
I saw the movies when they did the rerelease of the original trilogy in theaters. I went with my dad and fell in love from there. I never got super into it like the BF, but I certainly did love Star Wars growing up a lot. <3 I remember getting super excited for the prequel films. I went and watch them all. As much as SW fans gripe about them, I still enjoyed the heck out of em. XD

I grew with Star Wars as well. I watched the movies with my dad and my brother. I even watched my brother play the video games. I saw Episode II and Episode III in the theaters with my dad and my brother. I'm not huge Star Wars fan, but I enjoy watching the movies. I think it's the only sifi thing I will watch. O.o Anyway I'm really excited for episode 7!! I wonder if the Star Wars movies will be played on ABC Family now seeing how Disney owns ABC. ...Disney you are so the Evil Empire. XD

The best thing about this for me so far is that they cancelled re-releasing all the movies in 3D to make way for the newer stuff. I'm curious to see how J.J. Abrams handles directing the movies. As for people going on about how Disney or Abrams (and I mean people in general) is going to ruin the franchise, George Lucas already ruined it. Disney has nothing left to ruin.

I know right. xD The only sad thing is that the new Star Wars game that got announced last year has been put indefintiely on hiatus because apparently Disney wants to focus on the new stuff.
Which is a bummer because the new game sounded like it was gunna be AWESOME.

Original Trilogy and Rogue Squadron. None of this jedi/sith crap. Imperial walkers, X-wings, Tie-fighters, Star destroyers, oh my.

From what I remember, i think it was supposed to be a bit of a mature Star Wars game about the bounty hunters (or a singular bounty hunter). I don't remember the exact premise or who it was about, but from the sound of it, it seemed like it was going to be a nod back at the older Star Wars games.

It's really not and you're not just limited to playing as a Jedi or a Sith. You can play as Stormtoopers, Smugglers, Bounty Hunter and Imperial Agents.
@Topic: According to IMDb http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2488496/?ref_=sr_1 Ford, Hamill, Fisher, Williams and Daniels are all rumored to return.

SWTOR is probably way better than WOW with light sabers.
You get some pretty intense story lines and character development that you can see unfold that you don't get in WoW. I played as a jedi and my fiance played as a sith and it was just great to watch everything that the other did. I didn't see much of the non jedi or sith story....mostly because I wanted to hit things with a lightsaber, though.
Although, I think I actually enjoyed Knights of the Old Republic 2 (I never played 1) more.
