| There are a few rules for posting in this thread, please read them before posting stuff. The following types of work are allowed:
- FanFictions
- Poems
- Shorts
- Song Fics
- Song lyrics
- Otaku Character Bios/ideas (allowed two (2) pics total)
- Plays
The following is not allowed: If you have a question as to if your writing is allowed here, please PM the current Mod. HaineOther Rules: #1. Work must be your own! Nothing you didn't create or write is allowed. #2. For each piece of work you may have only one thread. For example:
- Only one thread for an ongoing story
- Only one thread for a collection of poems
- You can start multiple threads for individual short stories
#3. In your first post of your thread, state whether or not you allow comments or critiques. #4. All fan-fiction posted here cannot exceed a rating of PG-13. If you are uncertain as to what constitutes a rating of PG-13, please refer to this link. - From writers guild wrote:
How To Give Constructive CriticismConstructive Criticism VS Criticism wrote: Constructive criticism: advice that is useful and intended to help or improve something, often with an offer of possible solutions
Criticism: The act of passing judgment as to the merits of anything. 2. The act of passing severe judgment; censure; faultfinding. 3. The act or art of analyzing and evaluating or judging the quality of a literary or artistic work, musical performance, art exhibit, dramatic production, etc.
We welcome constructive criticism here, not "plain-old" criticism because it is more faultfinding than helpful. Please be mindful of this! ~ When giving your critique on somebody's writing, please be mindful of their feelings. We're all humans here! well, I hope we all are Please try to phrase your critique as nicely as possible. We want everyone and their written works to succeed. You want the story/fanfic/essay/etc. to succeed. OP wrote: Hey everybody! I'd like somebody to critique my short I'm working on! Any help is appreciated! I'd like you guys to state improvements I could do and any little tips and tricks that can make this piece better!
{insert written piece}Here a good example on good constructive criticism wrote: Your short story is very lovely! I love how you used metaphor to describe your characters! I think if you used a little less metaphor however, it'll be just what you need! While metaphor is great, too much can detract from the story. {provide examples to help the problem and person out}Here's an example on bad criticism wrote: Ehhh.. It's ok? I mean you used way too much metaphor and it's overbearing to the story. Sorry! You should probably take some of the metaphors out.Sailor Uranus's Technique for Constructive Criticism:It's called the 'compliment sandwich.' Say something that you like, tell them something that you don't like, and finish with something else that you like. For example: Constructive Criticism Sandwich wrote: (compliment): "Your opening paragraph is enthralling! It really grabs me - I especially like your use of the verb 'incinerate'." (criticism): "But in the middle it kinda dragged on; you might want to watch the length of your sentences - they were really short and it made my mind take too many mental breaths, which made it seem like it dragged rather than flowed. ((Now for theconstructive bit)) Perhaps you could combine a few of those sentences into longer phrases? It keeps the reader's interest a little better when you mingle short sentences with longer ones. " (compliment): "Anyway, I think it's great so far, and I can't wait to see what happens!"

| Hey, can I ask - if I wanted to post a meta thread about writing, should it go in here or in the galaxy lounge? Like, discussion about writing processes and so on. |

| Quick question - I have a completed work that I don't know if it would qualify if I posted it on the forum here. I've basically created a list where I gave each character a virus and described what their function was. It can be found here: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/567782/1/The_Many_Viruses_of_Rurouni_Kenshin
Is this something I can post here? Thanks ^^ |

| Well, its kind of like creative writing content. The writing section isn't necessarily for fanfiction, so i don't see why not. |

Currently we don't have anything officially set up for that as there hasn't been a demand yet. I could imagine if you post your story and put that its in need of a beta reader and is WIP, someone might be willing to do so. |

| Hi im wondering, if im able to create a general thread in the writers section for my "Galaxies Reunite Story"? Id provide the prologue and the 2 chapters that I have from way back when it was a fanfic, and any other plot ideas I had. Since Id like to get opinions from members of what they think of my story, the thread would be a place where they could leave suggestions for ideas and such. Id also have a poll, to see what format they think would be best for my story, Fanfic or RPG.
Since I haven't decided if I want to keep it as a rpg or go back to it being a fanfic, and I dont want to get rid of the the thread in the rpg section just incase. |

| Dumb question, so I want to post a link to a SM fanfic I read just to have a discussion about it... I did NOT write this piece... so I should not post it here in the writers forum, as per the rules, I totally get it. But where should I post it? The lounge? |

| Since it's an SM related fanfic, I think it would be be fine to discuss it in the General SM Discussion section. If it were any other fandom, Lounge would probably be more appropriate. |

| Are there any creative writing restrictions that posters may need to keep on tab for themselves? I mean in example, like ratings and what content is appropriate to post on the site? =3 I just want to be sure so I've something to keep in mind for putting up original stories etc. =D |

| The overall board rating is PG-13, so make sure everything you post fits into it. ^^ |

| I write fanfiction, however as I'm an adult most of stuff I write is written at the adult level and not PG-13 (although I suppose there are couple that fit that rating). If I just posted a thread, with information about my stories (name / summary / fandom / rating) would that be alright? After all, anyone clicking on links to my fanfic writer profiles would be aware of what they're getting to and it's on them and not anyone else if they're reading it.

| i'm 90% sure you can post a link to your profile if you state your stories are for more mature readers.
nonetheless, why not try and write a pg13 story? they can be just as fun =) |

| In the past, I've told members that off site linking is allowed making sure warnings are in place, bold, easy to see, etc. So a thread linking to your stories would be all right, but keep in mind, most people are on here because they like the pg-13 and under atmosphere and we do have younger members on here as well. |
