The Solar System Sailor Soldiers & Allies Etymology: PART I

Written by: Houyou no Senshi

The Meanings Behind Sailor Moon’s Characters
Like many authors, Naoko Takeuchi seems to strive to put some meaning into the names of her characters, though some are less clear than others, this article intends to try and explain the names of the main characters. I must point out however, that the following has not been confirmed by Naoko Takeuchi or anyone officially connected to the Sailor Moon series and are speculation based on evidence, take the following with a grain of salt as it may or may not have been the intention of the original creator.

Usagi Tsukino (月野うさぎ Tsukino Usagi)

The undeniably most well-known pun of the series is the main character herself. Her name, like most of other Solar System Soldiers contains the kanji (Chinese characters used by the Japanese) identifying her celestial body, in this case, “tsuki” (月) for “Moon”. The second character in her family name “no” (野) means “fields”, making the literal meaning “Moonfields”. Usagi is written with the hiragana writing system and means “rabbit”, her full name is a pun on the phrase “Rabbit of the Moon”, this is because the character (野) is pronounced the same way as the possessive particle “no” (の), so Tsukino Usagi becomes Tsuki-no-Usagi (Rabbit of the Moon). In Japanese folklore it is said that on the Moon there is a rabbit pounding ingredients to make a rice cake, this is brought about because of the dark and light parts of the Moon contrasting to form a rabbit shape, it is a similar idea to the “Man on the Moon” in the West. Usagi’s hairstyle is supposed to make her appear rabbit-like, additionally Makoto makes the “Rabbit of the Moon” pun in the manga, Usagi’s room is covered in rabbit merchandise and in the Sailor Moon anime she sometimes sports clothing bearing the kanji for rabbit (still pronounced “usagi” 兔).

Ami Mizuno (水野亜美 Mizuno Ami)

Ami’s name unlike most of the other characters is written with kanji, “Mizuno” is the same sort of pun as “Tsukino” in this case a pun on “mizu-no” 水の (of water), the character “mizu” can also be read as “sui” and is the kanji identified with Planet Mercury, in Japanese “suisei” 水星 (literally Water Star). In Eastern Astrology, the five ancient planets, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn are associated with the Chinese elements Water, Metal, Fire, Wood and Earth respectively, this is the reason why Sailor Mercury is associated with water attacks. The “suisei” pun is extended further in the musical “The New Legend of Kaguya Island” where Ami makes a brief speech on comets, which in Japanese are also pronounced “suisei” with a different kanji (彗星). Ami’s given name is harder to give an exact reason, the “mi” is straight forward and means “beauty”, however the character 亜 for “a” is most commonly used as an ateji, a character that is used to represent a sound, this kanji representing the sound “a” is very rarely seen alone, but is sometimes seen in girls names. The character亜does not hold much meaning on its own, many people will tell you that it means nothing, that however is untrue and merely an oversimplification of its use as an ateji. 亜is used to represent a lower rank, particularly in chemical compounds to register that they are of a lower oxidation state (Sulphurous Acid as opposed to Sulphuric Acid), its other use is as an uncommon way for the word “Asia”, I will point out now that some people will tell you that it does not mean Asia, it just appears in compounds with “a” historically before the widespread use of katakana that happened to be about Asia, nonetheless the kanji is connotative towards the meaning Asia and in fact the character is derived from the Chinese character yà (亞) which does in fact mean Asia. It also appears in compounds such as “toua” 東亜for “East Asia”. So the best literal meaning for Ami’s full name would be Asian Beauty Waterfields. However, keep in mind that it is a name and like in English, we do not always concentrate on the actual meaning of the name. The reasoning for the name “Asian Beauty” possibly stems from Noriko Sakai, a pop idol who Ms. Takeuchi noted Ami resembles, even in Ami’s original appearance in the original manga (removed in the rerelease, Usagi comments on Ami’s physical appearance, comparing her to the character Miss Rain from another of Naoko Takeuchi’s work. Other possibilities on Ami are on puns for the French word for friend “ami” or “amie” which are both approximated as “ami” (アミ) in Japanese, this would reflecting her kind and caring nature to all people, or “ami” (網) which is used for knitting or braiding, this might explain why Ami is seen knitting many times during the live-action series. In both these cases the use of the kanji would be to “mask” the true intention of her name and make the pun less obvious.

Rei Hino (火野レイ Hino Rei)

Hino is the same idea as Tsukino and Mizuno, however instead it is a pun on “fire” and “Mars” kasei 火星 (literally Fire Star). However her first name is quite different, unlike all the other characters in the main cast barring Luna, Artemis and Diana whose names are from foreign languages, Rei’s name is written in katakana, a writing system used mainly for approximately foreign words, however in this case, it most likely reflects her connection to traditional Japan by being a priestess, it is rather old-fashioned to name a daughter with katakana. There are many words with the pronunciation “rei” however one stands out more than the others and that is 霊 which refers to spirits, ghosts or souls, something that as a Shinto Priestess with a supernatural sense, Rei is very familiar with.

Makoto Kino (木野まこと Kino Makoto)

Again, Kino follows suit and refers to “wood” and “Jupiter” mokusei 木星 (literally Wood Star), this explains Jupiter’s attacks such as Flower Hurricane and Jupiter Coconuts Cyclone. Makoto’s name is written in hiragana, making it rather ambiguous since there is a variety of ways one can make the name “Makoto” from kanji. The name “Makoto” is often a rather boyish name; this may be a reference to how people often mistakenly judge Makoto as being masculine and tough when she is actually very feminine, as a word itself “makoto” 誠or 真refers to “truth”, “sincerity”, “faithful” “reality” and “honesty”, Japanese groups all these words as a single idea, but it is harder to grasp a single meaning in English, giving Makoto this name may be to suggest at her dedication as a Soldier and loyalty as a genuine friend.

Minako Aino (愛野美奈子 Aino Minako)

Minako breaks the tradition of the other main characters, likely because she was created much earlier. She retains the same “no” pun but “ai” does not directly refer to Venus 金星 (kinsei, literally Metal or Gold Star), for her name to pun on this, it would probably be something along the lines of Kaneno 金野. Ai 愛 means “love”, rather than making her name a pun on Minako of Venus, it is a pun on Minako of Love, fitting as Venus in Roman mythology is the Goddess of Love. Her given name, like Ami’s is in kanji and seems to be part of an elaborate pun, again like Ami, the “mi” 美 means beauty, most likely as Venus was a goddess of Love and Beauty, “ko” 子is a common name ending for girl names and means “child” or “girl”. The character “na” 奈is more difficult to place a meaning of, it really just represents the sound “na”, it also appears in a few inquisitive words and in the city of Nara’s name, for Minako’s name, it is really just used to make the “na” sound to make a pun work. The kanji “mi” can also be pronounced “bi” while the kanji “ko” can also be pronounced “su”, making an alternative reading of the kanji in Minako’s name “binasu”, which is one way to approximate the English word “Venus” (ビナス) into Japanese, so the full pun in her name is “Venus of Love”.

Putting this here until we have a submission thread, its not completely proofread but here we go:

Article Title:

"Hey Ellington, it don't mean a thing if it ain't go that swing: A Beginner's Guide to Momoiro Clover Z"

Momoiro Clover Z ももいろクローバーZ (Pink Clover Z) is a current five member (formerly six member) all-female Japanese pop idol group featuring Kanako Momota (as leader), Ayaka Sasaki (as sub-leader), Shiori Tamai, Momoka Ariyasu, Reni Takagi and formerly Akari Hayami. The group was formed in 2008 sans Momoka, and made their official musical debut with “Momoiro Punch” (Pink Punch), shortly after which Momoka joined the group. The group refers to themselves as the “Weekend Heroines” because of their ages they only perform weekends. In Momoiro Clover Z, each member sports their own colour and distinct personality traits, the airheaded Cinderella from a tea garden, Kanako (red), the slightly sexy stereotypical idol, Ayaka (pink), everyone’s little sister, the gluttonous Shiori (yellow), Momoka (green) who’s short and sassy with a big voice and Reni Takagi (purple) the eccentric electric-shock dancer. Former member Akari Hayami (blue) was known as the “cool beauty”. The group’s popularity really kicked off in 2010 with their hit “Ikuze! Kaitou Shoujo” (Let’s Go! Phantom Thief Girls) and was furthered by the film “Shirome”, a light horror film with a twist, that is the members of the group (except Akari who helped to convince the other five) were not told that they were in a horror movie and they believed that the strange goings-on were real in order to gain their “real reaction”, the movie shows the girls bursting tears after being told it was a set up over the credits. Across 2011, the group continued to grow in popularity with hits such as “Mirai Bowl” (Future Bowl - ending theme of “Dragon Crisis”), “Pinky Jones” (ending theme of “Yosuga no Sora” – Sky of Connection) and my personal favourite “Koko☆Natsu” (Here is☆Summer / Coco☆Nuts - ending theme of “Shirome” and despite Akari Hayami leaving the group, though not before releasing the special single “Akarin e Okuru Uta” (A Gift Song for Akarin), their last release before changing their name from Momoiro Clover to Momoiro Clover Z. A month later the group released their first full album entitled “Battle and Romance” which included new vocals in place of Akari’s, the group continued to grow from strength and strength through a steady release of popular sings through 2012 including the ever-popular “Mouretsu Uchuu Koukyoukyoku Dainana Gakushou «Mugen no Ai»” (Bodacious Space Symphony – Seventh Movement “Infinite Love” - opening theme for “Bodacious Space Pirates”), “Mitemite Kotchichi” (Look, Look, Here~ere, ending theme for Pocket Monsters Best Wishes), “Otome Sensou” (Maiden War - which caused much confusion at a niconico live event for the Western Sailor Moon community as many fansites reported it as the new theme song which was in fact not true, it was their most recent single that was, whether coincidentally or not, about maidens fighting battles but this is more in line with the groups title of “Weekend Heroines”.) and their most recent regular single “Saraba, Itoshiki Kanashimitachi yo” (Farewell, My Beloved Sorrows - the theme song for recent drama which starred Keiko Kitagawa, Rei Hino / Sailor Mars from the the live action “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon” series and also featured the voice acting of Shiori Tamai. When they began as a group, they were committed to the goal of being on “Kouhaku Uta Gassen” (a prestigious New Years music show in Japan, it is often considered one of the highest points in a musical career) which they successfully accomplished in the New Year and have now moved their goal to holding live concert at the National Olympic Stadium, a second album is also being prepared for 2013.
On the surface Momoiro Clover Z may seem to outsiders as a stereotypical idol group, but there is far much more depth to this group, with their distinct personalities, numerous live concerts, live-streams, television appearances and their heartfelt promise that they’ll always be there to cheer up their fans when they’re down, Momoiro Clover personalize their act, the gap between them and their fans is minimalised and fans are able to grow emotionally attached to the group or to specific members of it. The songs are catchy and surprisingly not generic, the genres greatly vary from rap to enka, but the bulk of their music belongs to the fast-paced, upbeat pop you would expect of a Japanese girl group, but even then the melodies are experimental and the lyrics catchy and often thoughtful, the group varies so much that it’s almost impossible to pin them down to a single genre or style, from Reni Takagi’s hauntingly beautiful “Tsugaru Hantou Tappizaki” to their over-the-top and informational guide to Japan “Momoclo no Nippon Banzai”. However, they aren’t entirely flawless, the group is not always the best live, they can be on or off and it varies from performance to performance, nerves and their energy seem to play a rather large part of how well they perform live, but we must offer them some leeway since they must sing with handheld microphones while remembering and performing their diverse and complicated dance routines for the various songs, no mean feat for a group of teenagers, there is also just as many well done performances as there are performances that need a bit more work. Momoiro Clover Z is truly a remarkable unique group who seem the logic choice to perform the theme song for the 2013 summer anime. As a five member girl group who transform into heroines of love and are loved by their fans from all over Japan (like the Sailor Moon series, Momoiro Clover Z has a very large adult --- male and female --- fanbase) capable of both gentle romantic songs and upbeat pop, there can truly be no competition for who would get to sing the theme song, it also helps that Momoiro Clover Z is under Stardust Promotions, a company which has a long-standing relationship with Sailor Moon and is connected to many people and groups including DALI, Aya Sugimoto, Keiko Kitagawa and ANZA and we should all expect something great from the new theme song, whether it’s a cover or a brand new song. With the most recent Sailor Moon song "Yakusoku no Uta" (Lyrics of Promise) from 2005 to beat, we'll see if Momoiro Clover can top it. I am personally sure it will be in the same tier as “Moonlight Densetsu”, “La Soldier” and “Kirari☆Sailor Dream”, though we may cling to the old versions due to their familiarity and fear the new anime, we should all give the new version an equal chance and take it for what it is rather than lay up all our own expectations of it, it is a fresh start and I believe we should treat it as such, in the words of Momoclochan, “farewell to a cast-off yesterday, muster up your voice of courage”.

Review Article:

Papa, Can You Hear Me Sing? (搭錯車 literally, Getting in the Wrong Car)

Written by: Houyou no Senshi

In this famous award-winning 1983 Taiwanese musical film directed by Yu Kanping, a mute bottle recycler (Sun Yueh) finds an abandoned baby named Ah Ming, raising her on his own with the help from his neighbours in a small shanty town; the father and daughter support each other, though events beyond their control cause trouble and heartache throughout their community through her childhood, they eventually find some peace and happiness by the time Ah Ming (Liu Rui Qi) has grown up. Ah Ming discovers her talent for singing in bars and is scouted by an elite music producer. Taking the job, hoping to provide a nice home for her father, Ah Ming is faced with the realities and harshness of the industry as her popularity skyrockets throughout South East Asia. Ah Ming is forced to leave behind her family, her friends, her home and her past as her managers forces her into a new persona, one from a wealthy educated upscale family, even hiding away Ah Ming’s native Taiwanese Hokkien tongue. Ah Ming takes all this on, not even realizing that her hometown had been demolished and her family and friends relocated.

“Papa, Can You Hear Me Sing?” is a well-known and much-loved film in Asia, it is a movie that reminds us all of what is truly important in life and seems to be imploring the audience to never forget who they are or where they come from, among messages of friendship, community, kindness, remembering and above all, never giving up hope. Despite the turmoil this colourful and lovable cast of characters suffers throughout the film, in particular Ah Ming’s next-door-neighbour, they move on with life and continue to hope for the future. This movie is labeled a musical, but it is not in the usual sense, there is of course singing, but due to the nature of the plot itself, there is no spontaneous breaking out into song and dance, and all singing is progressed naturally throughout the movie and is therefore an option for those who do not like musicals. The movie may also come off as a little melodramatic, particularly to Westerners, but it must be remembered that this is not heavily dramatized, all the issues and events raised in this film did and still do occur in parts of Asia. The destruction of shanty towns and relocating entire communities in the name of progress, celebrities forced to taking on new identities in order to not turn away their audience, the suppression of native culture, spousal abuse, fire, gambling, drunkenness and the abandoning of babies are all to this day a very real reality for many people throughout Asia, it is this, which I think makes many Asian communities resonate so much with this film, it speaks the truth on a harsh reality, but it also speaks of hope. Though this movie does seem to have political subtext and appears to criticize the hollowness of the Asian entertainment industry, it is not essential to have an understanding of these things in order to enjoy the film.

On the whole, in my opinion, it is a movie of very mixed emotions, but it never truly loses its pacing, the movie does not drag on nor does it feel too rushed, it does however leave one with a different feeling inside, neither happiness nor sadness, it brings about an emotion that is hard to place, perhaps it is the hope the movie gives or perhaps it is a questioning on how such a world can exist, regardless the movie is sure to leave a lasting impression on the viewer. It is still a bit of a tearjerker I must admit, but it never errs towards sappiness. Though I very much enjoyed the plot and characters of this movie, the thing that sold it for me the most was the beautiful music and lyrics, the gentle pop of the 80’s truly comes alive in this show, especially through the theme song and award winning song “Any Empty Wine Bottles For Sale?” (酒矸倘賣無) I close this review by quoting a translation of a verse from it which summarise best what this movie is about,

Without Heaven, where would Earth be;
Without Earth where would home be;
Without home, where would you be;
Without you, where would I be?

Recipe
Mama Ikuko's Specialty: Lemon Pie
From: Creamy Lemon Pie @ http://allrecipes.com/recipe/creamy-lemon-pie/

First Newspaper Issue Article Submission LemonPie1_zps99150835

This is a recipe that is similar to the lemon pie featured in the Sailor Moon SuperS episode 130, Protect a Mother's Dream! The New Attack for Double Moon. Ikuko's specialty is making lemon pie! This lemon pie recipe is light, lemony, and luscious and incredibly easy. It's a very irresistible dessert--it certainly did not last long in my house!

Ingredients:
3 egg yolks
1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice (approximately 3 lemons)
1 (8- or 9-inch) baked pie crust or graham cracker crumb crust
Whipped topping or whipped cream (whipped cream instructions to follow)
Lemon zest for garnish (optional)

First Newspaper Issue Article Submission LemonPieIngredients_zps3a36bd86

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (162.78 C).
2. If you want to use the lemon zest as garnish, I suggest to go ahead and zest your lemon before juicing them. To make juicing your lemons easier, roll them on your counter with some pressure. Then cut each lemon in half and squeeze out the juice. Strain the juice to get rid of seeds and pulp.
3. Beat egg yolks in a medium bowl with rotary beater or fork; gradually beat in sweetened condensed milk and lemon juice. For this, I used a hand mixer on low. Pour mixture into crust.
3. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until set. Remove from oven and cool 1 hour. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours.
4. Before serving, spread whipped topping or whipped cream over pie. Garnish with lemon zest (optional). Store leftover pie covered in the fridge. There's a high chance there won't be any leftovers. Wink

How to make fresh whipped cream:
For homemade whipped cream, you can either use heavy cream or whipping cream. Also, leave the cream in the fridge until the last minute and use a chilled bowl to beat the cream in. Pour the cream into a mixing bowl. I put my hand mixer in the bowl and poured until it was about 1/2 up the beaters. (Note: you can do this by hand with a whisk...but you're arm might feel like it will fall out and it will take much longer than with an electric mixer). You can also add a splash of vanilla, approx. a teaspoon. Also, add in a few tablespoons of powdered sugar if you want a sweeter whipped. Then you start to whip it! Whip the cream until it becomes thicker and thicker. It will gradually get stiffer and when it holds a stiff peak you're done. What is a stiff peak? A stiff peak means when you scoop some of the cream up with your whisk and turn it upside down, the peaks on the scoop should hold firm and not soften back into itself. And you're done! Homemade delicious whipped cream! Way better than from the can. Smile

And that's it for Mama Ikuko's Lemon Pie! I hope you enjoy it. Smile

Here is an edited version of your recipe Brit, the main changes are just wording and the adding of articles and the degrees sign. Is it okay? I also added a line to distinguish this from a meringue lemon pie and changed "like your arm is about to fall off" to "fatigue" but if you want to change it back i don't mind XD

This is a recipe for a lemon pie like the one featured in the Sailor Moon SuperS episode 130, Protect Our Mother's Dream! The New Special Move for Double Moon. This recipe is for a cream lemon pie rather than a meringue lemon pie. As Usagi says, Ikuko's specialty is making lemon pie! This lemon pie recipe is light, lemony, and luscious and incredibly easy. It's a very irresistible dessert--- it certainly did not last long in my house!

Ingredients:
3 egg yolks
1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk

1 (8- or 9-inch) baked pie crust or graham cracker crumb crust
Whipped topping or whipped cream (whipped cream instructions to follow)
Lemon zest for garnish (optional)

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees °F (160 °C).
2. If you want to use the lemon zest as garnish, I suggest to go ahead and zest your lemon before juicing them. To make juicing the lemons easier, roll them on your counter and apply some pressure. Then cut each lemon in half and squeeze out the juice. Strain the juice to get rid of seeds and pulp.
3. Beat the egg yolks in a medium bowl with a rotary beater or fork; gradually beat in the sweetened condensed milk and lemon juice. For this, I used a hand mixer on low. Pour mixture into crust.
3. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until it has set. Remove from the oven and cool for 1 hour. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours.
4. Before serving, spread whipped topping or whipped cream over pie. Garnish with lemon zest (optional). Store the leftover pie covered in the fridge. Though there's a high chance there won't be any leftovers.

Making fresh whipped cream:

For homemade whipped cream, you can either use heavy cream or whipping cream. Leave the cream in the fridge until ready for use and use a chilled bowl to beat the cream in. Pour the cream into a mixing bowl. I put my hand mixer in the bowl and poured until it was about 1/2 the way up the beaters. Scratch that I remember how it works now, that program will only work if we have one document file or each thing and we change it directly on the same word document. Perhaps we could use it in the future?

Hmm maybe we should just thoroughly read them XD

I edited my one back to the arm fall off so if you want we can use that one

Easy Wordwheel for first issue! I'm sure you can see it instantly

If you guys think you can make the font prettier than me and MS Paint or you want to change the starting position of the word to make it trickier (which is also a good idea)! Go right ahead and clean it up

There's a word in the wheel, the centre is the first letter and you must find the rest of the word. In this case its a nine letter word beginning with H

Funfacts:

Did you know, in the anime Usagi and Chibichibi share the same voice actress: Kotono Mitsuishi?

Did you know that the opening scenes of episode 52 "Targeted Kindergartners! A Grand Performance For Venus" pay homage to the manga "Codename: Sailor V"

Did you know that in the musicals, the two actresses for Mistress 9 (Tomoko Inami and Chinatsu Akiyama) went on to play Sailor Neptune and Sailor Star Fighter respectively in their very next show.

Riddles:

I made reference to Mars, Jupiter and Venus, however it was not till the very next year where I was changed to include Mercury. What am I?

Spoiler:

I am the coloured-darkness. Though I parted myself with it, I was a glowing ray of faith left to find its own way. Who am I?

Spoiler:

I am an icon. I was the destination of that Soldier of Love with her body is like a flame. Last year I was finally bested. What am I?

Spoiler:

H'okay.

Review Article: Merchandise
Merch. Reviews with Tuxie
Written By: Lady Tuxedo

Ah. So your eyes have wandered over here to the merchandise review area, eh? That must mean you're interested in Sailor Moon merch. (I mean, who isn't?). But I know what you're thinking: Sailor Moon merchandise costs so much money! Everything is so expensive!

Okay, yeah, that's true. However, if you want to buy a decent article that is Sailor Moon-esque, your eyes have wandered over to the appropriate review. If you want something pretty, feels and looks like quality and don't have copious amounts of money to spend (but you do have a little something), then I recommend:

The Sailor Moon SuperS Crisis Necklace!!
(note: it is not a compact)

Here are the specs:

Appearance & Art: ☾☾☾☾☾
Packaging: ☾☾☾☾
Cost: ☾☾☾☾
Quality: ☾☾☾☾☾
Availability: ☾☾

Appearance & Art – First, let me start by saying that this necklace is, most likely, a bootleg. I see nothing official on it, so we’re just going to say it’s a bootleg. Regardless of that fact, it is a wonderful little necklace. Every now and again we all get lucky and come across a bootleg that’s so great, we forget that it isn’t official; this is one of those pieces. The art is great. It looks exactly like Usagi’s Crisis Compact. Not perfect (as in matching the jeweled designs in the upper left and right corners of the compact heart), but 99%. The makers of the necklace at least included a (plastic) jewel in the center and made sure it matched the pink paint used on the rest of the necklace. On the flipside of the necklace, which I found neat, was engraved 美少女戦士セーラームーン. For such closeness and the fact that it has Sailor Moon engraved on the back in Japanese, you can see why I gave it a 5 Moon Rating.

Packaging – When I received my necklace, it came in a different box than was pictured on the site, but it still was just as amazing. The box itself is nice and durable; a great gift box. The lid to the box, features a quality image of Sailor Moon (from the anime of course), accompanied by 美少女戦士セーラームーン at the bottom, along with the English translation Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon along the side of the lid. Naturally I kept the box. The only reason why the box too didn’t get a 5 Moon Rating was due to the necklace not being securely strapped inside. When I opened the box, I found my necklace at the bottom of the box. When I discovered what was supposed to hold the necklace in place (an elastic, gold piece of thick string), I wasn’t too surprised. Don’t let the fact that the necklace might not be securely fastened in the box scare you away.

Cost – The cost, for such a quality piece of Sailor Moon, is honestly great. My friend, who purchased the necklace for me, paid $20, with shipping. What blows my mind is how in a couple of reviews that I read on the necklace, people were stating that it shouldn’t cost $20; it should cost less. Hmm. Well, in today’s world, $20 probably wouldn’t get you such a great, lasting piece of Sailor Moon merchandise, to be honest. Naturally we want everything, including pieces for our collection, cosplay, or just fun to have, to cost peanuts. But, if you pay peanuts, the general rule is that you receive peanuts (read: you get what you pay for). So, paying $20 for this necklace, to me, is a steal. I’m surprised it isn’t worth more because the quality is honestly that good.

Quality – To start, the gold chain is nice and sturdy. It isn’t a flimsy little 1 inch fragile chain, it’s a durable chain. Durable and feminine (score!). The pendant attached is very nice as well and isn’t gaudy. A couple reviews I read about this necklace seemed to be whining about the size. If you want something huge, invest your money in a huge, flashy (probably fan-made) necklace. This necklace is like a real necklace; like something you would wear every day. It’s only a couple inches big, but it’s just right. The pink jewel in is fastened securely in place, matching the pink paint used on the necklace. The rest is painted in a lovely gold. So, all in all, I was pleasantly surprised. Do note though that this necklace is not really made for daily wear. If you choose to wear it, I would suggest wearing it lightly.

Availability – Availability is on the low side due to the fact that the business I purchased the necklace from, hobbyinworld, states they only have 4 of these necklaces left in stock. However, I did a recent search on eBay and came up with a seller selling this necklace that had at least 5 in stock. So if you want one, hurry and nab one before they’re all gone! Because I’m not sure if they’ll be getting anymore afterward!

Photos to come later!!

Awesome! I think the only concern here is that you may not be able to buy this item by the time we get this issue out, unless we push for a quicker release?
