The Galaxy Cauldron is proud to announce its tenth writing contest and the first of the new year 2013. The theme for this writing contest is "Loss of a Pet." You are free to interpret the theme as you like. The rules are as follows:

Rules
1. Entries must be 1000 words or less.
2. Entries must be rated PG13 or lower.
3. Entries must be related to the theme.
4. Your entry must be a new entry created specifically for this challenge.
5. You may only submit one entry.
6. You may not show your entry to anyone else or post it elsewhere on the Galaxy Cauldron until after the contest is over and the winner is announced.
7. Sailor Moon themed entries are encouraged, but not required.

My dear Little Girl,





You were the happiest dog that I
ever own. I remember when my mom and I saw picture of
you on the rescue
Columbus Cocker Spaniel website. We fell in love with you when we read your
bio
so my mom called them up and we adopted you! We had to go to Columbus to
get
you and on the way home you fell asleep on my lap. I knew then we would
have a special bond and
I was right. For the next six years we
grew
attached to each other. You would
follow me around the house and we would
cuddle with each other at night (though
sometimes you would somehow take up
the whole bed). You were always so cheerful when you saw me
come home from
and you would grab your gross football toy and show it to me (you
loved that
football to death!!). You were
also a goofy dog because when I rubbed your
ears you would pur like a cat. When I moved away from home to go to
college,
my mom would tell me how sad you would get because I was gone.
That’s why when I came home from school I
would make sure to spend extra time
with you!


At times you were a pain.
You would snore at night
(like a pig!!), wake me up in the middle of
night because you had to go potty
or you were thirsty. You couldn’t be around under dogs because for
some
reason you hated them. You would pee in the house if no one was
paying
attention to you when you had to go potty.
You would stick your
nose into places that your nose didn’t belong in!! My mom would call you the two
year old of the
house.


Despite your flaws you were very special to
me. I thought I would never lose you and when I
came home from school one day
and my mom told me that she had to put you
down. I was heartbroken. I lost
my
little girl and it hurt so much because I never got to tell you goodbye.



So now here is my chance to finally say goodbye. First I want to say
thank you for bringing
joy back into my life after I lost another very
special dog. We had great times together and I am just
happy that you are no
longer in pain.
Now, you have cross the rainbow bridge and are now playing
happily with
my past dogs (probably some kitties because you loved kittes!!).
Goodbye my sweet little girl. I will never forget you and I will always
cherish
our time together.

Entry #2
(note: Saruka is pronounced like Haruka but with an S… so Sar ka not Sar
ruka)

Tears rain down the checks of Saruka, the son of Zoisite and
Kunzite. “Kitty” he cried out. Cloudy who was a Dark gray Tabby had just pasted.
The kitty was around when Saruka appeared. The four year old eye were red.
Zoisite cried too, he already missed his fuzzy buddy. Saruka held his stuffed
toy kitty tight, I want kitty back” he said. “Sorry, I can’t.. and she was an
old kitty too” he told the child. Zoisite cursed under his breath and under
where Kunzite was.

Just then, Kunzite came into the house with a box.
This box had holes in it, Saruka saw this. “your box is broken” he said. Kunzite
then opened the box and pulled up something wrapped in a blanket and set it on
Zoisite’s lap. “it’s a rescue and it’s younger so it will be with us of a long
time” he said. “Kunzite, it’s too soon for a new cat, how heartless..” Zoisite
said.. “Look, I was going to find out about donating some of Shadows old stuff
and he was there and I couldn’t walk away.” Kunzite said “and I thought it would
help ease the pain” he added

Just then the blanket moved and a Ginger
kitty popped up. “he is about two months olds, his mom and siblings were at a
foster.” Kunzite said “PUMPKIN” Saruka shouted the kitty just happened to look
like his stuffed toy cat. The shouting startled the kitten. “Saruka sit down and
I’ll bring the kitten to you” Kunzite said. Who then picked to kitten off of
Zoisite’s lap and set him in front of Saruka.

Saruka help his hand out
as the kitten sniffed it, then deiced Saruka was a friend. “I wanna name the
kitty” he said.. “Pumpkin” he said. “that’s a cute name” Kunzite said. Zoisite
sat on the floor next to Saruka “pumpkin made the sad go away” he said Zoisite
Smiled and picked the kitten up. “well he is cute” Zoisite said then smiled when
the kitty purred. “the reason pets don’t live as long as we do is because there
is lots of other pets out there that need homes and if they lived that long lot
of them wouldn't get a home” Kunzite to Zoisite as Saruka was running around
with the kitty fallowing him.

Zoisite wrapped his arms around Kunzite.
“thanks” he said. Saruka stops running “thanks for the kitty” and then runs and
jumps onto the couch. Pumpkin also jumps up. That night the kitty cries out and
gose up stairs looking for someone. Zoisite opens the bedroom door and bring the
kitten back to it’s bed. But once Zoisite is upstairs the kitten goes back up.
Saruka here the crying and opens his door and let’s pumpkin in. Saruka goes back
into the and Pumpkin joins him. Kunzite had heard the door and goes to check on
things. “I bet he just misses his mom and siblings and wanted someone to cuddle
with” he told Saruka “He can cuddle with me and kitty” Saruka said and pointed
to his toy stuffed cat. Kunzite leaves the room and Saruka and pumpkin soon fall
asleep.

Entry #3
Title: How can I say ‘Good bye’…?

A young girl kneeled down on the
already green spring grass, her arms holding something tightly in their embrace.
If someone walked near her that person would probably think that the girl held
something treasured to her, which was true, but no one would know how the girl
truly felt or what she was holding unless she or he would walk to her and
witness the cold truth of reality that the young had girl faced. Silently the
thoughts of that young girl went back to the past.

Tears running down her
cheeks Makoto ran on the road surrounded by snow banks and struggled not to fall
down as the ground was as slippery as it would’ve been made of pure ice. The
ponytailed girl had ran away from home few hours ago, right after hearing the
news of her parents and was now running without having any kind of place where
to escape to. No matter how long she had ran and how fast her feet moved her
forward Makoto felt the fate, as dark as a night without any stars or light in
the sky, reaching out to her and grabbing her back into the reality that felt
like nightmare. But how long could she keep running before her feet would lose
the strength her mind had gathered from the tears she had shred and she would
collapse to the ground? Just like the young girl had been afraid of, her feet
couldn’t take it any longer and she fell down to the cold ground without being
able to stand up and to try to run away from the truth and the real
world.

She lied down for minutes, baring her face in her hands until she
felt something touching her already cold, bare palms that tried to hide her
sadness by covering her face. Slowly Makoto revealed her face by the warm touch
and her teary eyes met with bright brown ones, belonging to a golden retriever
puppy, only three months old. Makoto reached out her hands to wrap her arms
around the puppy to warm him up as he seemed to feel a lot colder than the girl
herself despite she had been running in the cold weather for several hours and
the young puppy leaned against Makoto’s upper body. The brown haired girl opened
the zipper of her coat and wrapped the golden dog inside it as her body shared
its warmth with him. The dog did not try to run away but leaned against the girl
even more, reaching out his head to Makoto’s face to lick the salty tears from
her cheeks. A slight yet warm smile was drawn on Makoto’s lips when she felt her
tears being swept away by the dog’s warm tongue and fur and she wrapped her arm
tighter around the only creature in the world who seemed to understand her and
who wanted to make her feel better.

Even though Makoto didn’t have her
parents anymore she wasn’t alone since she had a friend who to share her
feelings with, a friend that was always ready to listen to her and who just by
looking into Makoto’s green eyes with his brown ones comforted her. She didn’t
have other friends and whenever she walked to the park all children were afraid
of her but the small puppy saw the real side of the young girl and quickly
became addicted to the brunette as there was a bond, deep and inexplicable by
words, that connected the two of them. Makoto found herself spending most, if
not all, of her time with her new friend and whenever she felt lonely and sad
she went to him, taking comfort from the golden and soft fur. The ponytailed
girl ran alongside her friend on the flowery spring field and rolled on the
ground “I’m so glad that you’re here!” she laughed, playing with her friend on
the still yellow grass and giggling when her friend’s barks echoed in her
ears.

But all her arms could feel now was coldness; the golden fur still
shone in the faint light of the sun but the body Makoto was holding tightly was
cold, like frozen. Makoto closed her eyes to prevent tears falling down and to
avoid looking at her friend who was now sleeping an eternal sleep but she
couldn’t stop crying. Just days ago her tiny dog had been running with her and
spending a happy life but this morning he was gone, now running on a much more
beautiful field than the Earth could ever have. No matter how the tiny girl
tried to waken her friend up he didn’t move and when Makoto had taken him on her
lap the tagger that had hit her few months ago was yet again straight in her
chest.

The truth that her friend would never see the summer and feel its
warmth in this world was too much to bear for the young girl and still repeating
the name of her friend Makoto hugged him, kneeled down. She had run from the
house at the same minute she saw her friend dead, taking him with her. No matter
how hard it would be for her, her friend deserved the most beautiful funeral
possible, the funeral her parent could never have and she had decided to bury
her friend to the field they had been playing at.

“I’m sorry… I’m so
sorry” she cried “You never saw the summer here even though I promised to show
you the beach and the flowers that grew there…” She apologized from her friend,
sobbing, and laid him down to the hole she had dug. Glancing at her friend the
very last time she managed to whisper the words between her sobs “Thank you for
everything… goodbye” she cried the words, her warm tears dropping down on the
golden fur. Her friend would never feel cold in the ground since Makoto’s tears
would keep his body warm, forever.

Entry #4

Ami had never been big on the concept of pets. She rarely had time
for them especially these days because she was spending all her time at the
university and the other half at the hospital working on her internship. It had
all happened one rainy night when she had came home late one night from working
at the hospital. The little thing was all curled up on her front porch in a
little ball shivering from the cold. The small furry creature uncurled showing
its face when it saw her. The little fur ball was fuzzy with big blue
eyes.

“Hello there little guy what are you doing here out in the cold?”
she inquired of the fur ball standing in front of her blocking the doorway. The
fur ball began wagging its tail and looked up at Ami like it was happy to see
her. She felt sorry for the poor little guy and decided to bring it inside for
something to eat.

“Would you like to come inside with me?” she inquired
and the small creature barked in response. She smiled unlocking the door and let
it come inside. She flipped the light on and looked down at the fuzzy grey and
white puppy.

“Where did you come from puppy?” Ami said smiling as she
hesitantly pet the little thing resulting in her face being
licked.

“You’re a feisty little thing aren’t you?” She laughed picking
the critter up and examining it. The puppy was male and had no collar. She
concluded he was probably a stray and had been dropped off. People were so cruel
these days. She also noticed his fur was caked with mud. She looked at the clock
which clarified it was now eight o’clock. She had a lot of studying to do but
clearly couldn’t leave the poor thing like that. She sighed realizing she
probably wasn’t going to be studying tonight.

“You need a bath if you’re
going to stay here.” she told him which resulted in a tiny whimper from the
dog.

“No buts!” she exclaimed which he answered with a small bark. She
laughed taking him to the bathroom and sitting him down on the linoleum floor.
She turned on the faucet and warm water began to fill the tub.

“Stay
while I fix your bath.” she commanded him which caused him to look at her
sideways. She felt like she was taking care of a patient as she went into care
mode.

The tub soon livened up as it was filled with suds and bubbles. Ami
took the grey and white fur ball and placed him in the water. He whined a little
bit when she made him get into the water but eventually complied. After his bath
Ami towel dried him and examined him some more. He was a very beautiful dog
since he had cleaned up, and she concluded he must be some type of husky mix.


She then took him into the kitchen and set him down on the floor. He had
to be hungry, and she knew she couldn’t very well give him a bath and not feed
him.

“I guess your hungry then right?” Ami inquired looking at him with
kind blue eyes. He just barked in response as if confirming that as a “Yes”. She
began searching through her cabinets until she found a can of tuna. She often
kept it handy if Luna visited, but she knew Luna wouldn’t mind if she gave him a
can of her tuna because she didn’t plan on keeping him. Tomorrow morning she
would take him down to the shelter, and they would find him a good home. She set
the can of tuna on the floor, and he gobbled it up heartily.


　

After he had eaten she noticed he was getting sleepy. She then
decided to put some newspapers down for him to sleep on in her laundry room. She
picked him up and placed him in the middle of the floor.

“You can sleep
here tonight puppy.” she told him and shut the door. She got ready for bed and
was about to lay down for the night until the puppy began howling. She knew her
mother would be working a late shift tonight and wouldn’t want to hear all that
noise when she got home. She sighed as she got up and walked back towards the
laundry room. The howling immediately stopped upon her entry.

“You can’t
be howling all night like that okay? You’ve got to be a good boy and be quiet,
so I can get some sleep.” she retorted looking at him which only resulted in a
whimper.

“I guess you’re not going to are you?” she sighed giving him a
questioning look which resulted in a bark.

“I guess that means you can
stay with me but only for tonight!” she warned him. She picked him up and took
him into her room and placed him on the foot of her bed which he contently slept
without another howl or bark of defiance for the rest of the
night.

The next day she woke up and got ready for work with
the puppy still sleeping on her bed soundlessly. She would have to do something
about that today. She was making breakfast until she heard a knock at the
door.

“I’m coming!” she called out wrapping the robe securely around her.
She opened the door to see the faces of two saddened children.

“Lady were
looking for our puppy Pero! He ran away last night, and we can’t find him! We’ve
been looking everywhere for him! Have you seen him?” asked the little girl
eagerly holding up the picture of the same dog that had stayed with her last
night.

“I sure do!” Ami smiled as she went and gathered him up off her
bed and presented him to the waiting children.

“Thanks lady you’re the
best!” the little boy grinned as they both walked away happily, but Ami didn’t
feel happy. She began feeling empty and lonely inside which made her think about
stopping by the animal shelter after work that day. Perhaps having a pet wasn’t
a bad thing after all. She might even see if they had any huskies for adoption.

Circle of life

Usagi and Minako were walking down the
streets. The queen decided to have a day as a citzen and the captain of the
guard escorted her.

"Usagi-chan! Maybe we could try that new ice cream
shop down the corner. Mako-chan went there on her day off and said it was really
good."

"Well, Minako-chan! If Mako-chan said it's good, then good it is!
You how demanding she is on her food, right? And now that you said it, I do have
a craving for chocolate chip ice cream."

"Ah, some things never change!"
Minako shook her head and the girls continued to walk down the streets
unrecognized. Okay, the Luna Pen helped a lot in that, for Usagi was now a
brunette with short hair. Minako was using a blue bow on her head, just to
differentiate herself from the mighty Sailor Venus. It was a cool day, with some
breeze, and so the girls had coats. Usagi's was pink and Minako's was orange,
their favorite colors.

The chat was so animated (they were talking about
the cute seller who worked at the bookstore) that the girls missed the car
turning the street and coming in their direction.

Across the street,
Artemis was observing from a distance, following the King's orders. He wanted to
prepare a special surprise for the queen and he needed to know when she was
coming back. The car wasn't missed by the white cat. And when he saw the car
coming in their direction, he did what he could only do. He
jumped.

"MINAKO-CHAN!" He pushed the girls with a strength he didn't know
to possess. The car hit him big time. Minako screamed in shock when she realized
what had just happened. She ran to her cat, Usagi following.

"Artemis!
Artemis!" She held him to her chest, but he was too weak. The tears were in her
throat and she let them run through her face.

"Mina, at least you're
safe. Please, take care of Luna and Diana for me. And know this, I love y...".
With that, he left this world. Minako couldn't stop crying and Usagi had to get
help.

The castle gained this sad aura. Luna and Diana were inconsolable,
but no one was sadder than Minako. She couldn't stop crying, sobbing all the
time, because everything reminded her of her cat.

The days went by and
one day, Luna decided to pay Minako a visit.

"We were the two main women
of his life for so long. You, longer than me. He ate your pizza, read your
mangas, slept in your bed. He was your loving companion. I know that. He was
also my husband. And this is why I'm here. I'm still suffering, but I got good
news today and you are the first one I'm sharing the news with."

"Luna.
I'm sorry I haven't been there for you. It's just that it's too sad for me. You
know why, you said so yourself. But, good news? And why am I the first to know
them?"

"Because I'm pregnant. My belly is bigger now, can't you see?". It
was true, the purple cat's belly was a bit round. "And I think you may need a
new kitty in your life. So, you're gonna take good care of him, or her, like I
know you took good care of my husband."

"Of course I'll care for this
little baby that's coming! I feel so honored that you chose me for that task."
Minako hugged Luna and both women started crying. They knew that even though he
wasn't there physically anymore, he would always be a part of
them.

Months went by and Luna finally was in labor. The gave birth to
four kittens. One was all blue, one was light pink, a really black one and a
white one. They were three girls and one boy. The girls were given to Ami,
Makoto and Rei, who named them Morgaine, Lady and Reiko. The boy, the only one
with white fur, was given to Minako. His name was Artemis.
