This is the live version right? It's not that bad, I think Momoka and Ayaka are singing too loudly and its clashing with Shiori and Reni (its really noticeable at the "haato wa mangekyou) and I think thats where the problem is I think and you can also hear them dealing with some very poor acoustics there.

I think a studio-recorded version will sound a lot better. This isn't bad in my opinion, just needs a little work on how the synchronizes their voices. Still, prefer the original, but nothing really beats the original. xD

Are they making their own rendition of this song for the theme for the 2013 anime? Or was this just something they did for fun?

It sounds pretty good, all in all, although there definitely is one voice that is coming through a lot more clearer than all the others that really seems to clash with the others.

I really hope this song shows up *somewhere* in the new anime :3

aha personally i prefer Moon Lips rendition for the S and SuperS seasons over the original DALI XD

also Verdandi, i dont think they specifically stated what they were singing, it maybe Moonlight Densetsu or another song altogether. We'll see when we see i suppose!

I agree with Houyou that the live presentation had some problems, but the girls from Momocl are awesome! I'm a new fan of the group and I really think the new song will sound amazing *-*

To be perfectly blunt?
When I first heard them I was horrified. I think they sound absolutely terrible.
... In that recording at least.

But I just looked them up and found some examples of ending and openings themes performed by them, which give much better insight to what they sound like than that horrendous live recording does.





Particularly that second video calmed my worries a little.
I still don't really like them, nor do I consider them good singers, and on top of that I don't think their kind of "cutsey and high-pitched" voices will fit the upcoming series well at all. (Especially not when compared to the original gorgeousness that is Moonlight Densetsu, a very mature sounding song.) But... I think they'll do an acceptable job. Or at least I hope so.

I think it depends on the kind of song that they do and what type of opening they do. The thing I do like about some of their songs that I've listened to, is that they tend to follow the theme of fighting maidens (totally a sailor moon thing) and they are really all about the Super Sentai stuff, especially if you watch some of the music videos.

I'm not the hugest fan of that particular style of music, but its enjoyable. I wish they had had better acoustics for that live performance because there were a lot of people (like me) who hadn't heard of them before and that was their first experience. :/

Momoclo are actually capable of quite a wide variety of songs, particularly because all five of them have unique singing styles, well... the problem, is their lead singer, Kanako (red) doesn't really, in my opinion, have the same spark as the others, and regrettably she sings the most. Momoka (green) has an incredibly unique deep twang to her singing and she's always nice to listen to. Shiori (yellow) has much softer sweeter tones, Reni (purple) has a very variable voice and she's very melodic, Ayaka (pink) her style is distinctive, its one of those voices that clash, but in a way that sounds good. They used to have a sixth member, Akari (blue) who had a very deep, boyish voice and would often "rap" or perform masculine parts of songs. Basically, I believe Momoclo will be able to do the song given to them, they're not all hyper. Personally, I think, Kirari* Sailor Dream and La Soldier were very adequate Sailor Moon theme songs, neither of them are the same kind of song as Moonlight Densetsu, and I love those songs, I personally believe the new opening will be something along the lines of Kirari* Sailor Dream, but in terms of the way the story is told, I think it would most likely have a SuperSy atmosphere to it, judging by the way other shoujo series I've seen recently are like. But who knows they might want to go against the majority and try something different. Momoclo are capable of other songs, its just their main style are these kinds that's all. Have a listen to Orange Notebook or Stardust Serenade.

Personally I think Momoclo are better when they each sing separate verses rather than together. I think there's an issue with Kanako's voice clashing with everyone elses.

I liked their song (I think it's called Maiden's War?) - it had a cute feeling.

Regardless, I have confidence that they were chosen for a good reason and will do a good job with whatever song it is that they will sing! Although I'm really anxious to find out what it will be!

Cutting in here:

First off, it wasn't that awful, not the greatest, but not as bad as people make out. For a song that they wouldn't have practiced very much and in a style only suited to two of the five members (Shiori & Reni - Yellow & Purple), it wasn't that awful. Kanako (Red) and Ayaka (Pink) struggle a bit with slower songs due to their style, and its hit and miss with Momoka (Green). Akari (Blue) of course had left the group long before this, so she's out of the picture but this song would definitely not have been her style, as she often sings low and masculine parts.

Secondly, Momoclo are a bit of a hit-and-miss live, sometimes they're on, sometimes they're off (not necessarily to do with lip-synching, which is actually usually for televised events not usually for concerts like this). Depending on the song, the stage, their strength and so on. In this case it was not one of their better live shows.

Thirdly, Moonlight Densetsu and the other two songs (Otome Sensou and Kono Uta), these three songs were NOT their first performance that evening. In fact, they had apparently already had a performance earlier that same evening (in case you haven't noticed, their songs require extensive strength in singing and dancing). You can actually say they were quite tired when the Sailor Moon performance began.

Fourthly, they gave Kanako lead, Kanako is the group's leader and in my opinion, of the five, she's the weakest singer. Particularly on this kind of song. I would have given Shiori the lead >...> not just because she's my favourite.

Fifthly, Momoclo was probably chosen for this for two reasons: Number 1, the company that owns Momoiro Clover Z (Stardust Promotions) has a number of familiar Sailor Moon people under it, previous and current celebrities include DALI (Moonlight Densetsu's original singer), Keiko Kitagawa and Aya Sugimoto (PGSM's Rei and Queen Beryl) and even Anza of SeraMyu. Makes sense to continue Stardust and Sailor Moon's alliance. The other reason, Momoclo with Akari no longer part of it has five members and their group's subtitle is "Weekend Heroines", it appears as part of their logo, so there's a fun little similarity to make them connected to Sailor Moon. Some of the members also have similar personalities to Sailor Soldiers. They've got a wacky off-the wall silly member (Reni, sorta like Minako), the misunderstood tough-not-so-tough girl (Momoka, sorta like Makoto) and even the "crybaby-innocent-needs-lots-of-hugs-and-she's-always-hungry" girl (Shiori, sorta like Usagi!) Ayaka and Kanako (sexy momoclo/stereotypical idol type and princess-type respectively) don't really fit Ami or Rei though.

Sixthly, please don't hate on Momoclo for one performance!

I was expecting so much from the music, but when I heard this live it just shattered them... they sound horrible >.<

I dunno but they just wanna give out a type of "pretty cure" thing... which I never liked... having an idol group sing a song for an anime makes it look that it's addressed for kids... at least that what I feel... and supposedly the new anime is going to be for our generation that grew up with SM and not for new audiences and with that music i don't think it really is.

Sailor Moon has always been addressed to kids anyone thinking otherwise is fooling themselves. (If you must know Momoclo has a MASSIVE adult fanbase) You should read my above post, it explains everything much better.

Can't say I like the live version or any of the recorded versions...not really my cup of tea. I just hope they sound about 100% better when they are recorded for the anime...because that live version was pretty bad...

We can't say for sure they'll sing that song lol. But I do sort of like it, since it's magical-girl-esque style I think it'll fit the new remake to make it more modern

This performance was all over the place, their vocals weren't good at all... But I like Momoclo a lot! They're very lively, full of energy and their songs/PVs are very creative. They have so many great singles, I can't wait to see how the new OP for the new SM anime will be, I'm sure it'll be something epic. Momoclo never fails to deliver, imo.

And I must say... I love Momoka!

Haha, I kinda expected that a lot of people wouldn't like it. To be honest, I couldn't stand MomoClo's music the first time I heard it. I adore them now though!

And really, I don't think you'd go to a MomoClo concert for their vocals. You'd go for their lively performance and the crazy awesome shows they put on!

All their singles lately have displayed different sides of MomoClo, so I'm very excited to see what kind of song they release fro Sailor Moon!

They better step it up for the new opening song for Sailor Moon series 2013.

You guyss are so harsh... please cut them some slack T.T

- They were jetlagged
- They had already done earlier performances that evening
- The performance was a surprise to them, they were not well rehearsed
- Moonlight Densetsu is not one of their songs, they're not used to singing it or doing the choreography
- They put Kanako as lead once again when it should have been someone who can go for softer tones more easily like Reni or Shiori, but they don't seem to like putting Reni or Shiori as leads very often
- It was live with poor acoustics
- The girls sometimes have a tendency to get anxious or worked up at live performances, particularly Momoka
- First proper international performance, they were incredibly nervous
- The performance was actually not as bad as people think it is imho

The Sailor Moon song will be recorded in a studio with them well rehearsed and not dancing. Of course it will be better @_@ don't judge them on one little unprepared performance. Most groups aren't great live anyway. So please be forgiving to them and maybe check out some of their mv's instead.



Darling Shiorin take centre stage

Yeeeeah. I was at first a little turned off by their Moonlight Densetsu performance but then I started listening to their other music and other live performances. They're music is WAY better than that one performance. If youare judging them based on that...well maybe you should remember the saying "don't judge a book by its cover".
