There were only like, 8 of them in English (though I hear Germany published most of the first season). They were cute, and did a lot to ground them into American 90s culture, like Serena mentioning she had an NSync CD she wanted to listen to later and such. I don't know if they're transcribed online anywhere, but I did find this handy FAQ: http://www.liannesentar.com/smnovels/smnovelsfaq.html |

| Up to Kunzite arcs:
Positives:
Susan Roman's acting for Lita is well done *congratulations* putting a new-spin on a character, I feel is important in any adaption, even across language. Makoto's change from boyish rather than misplaced-masculinity is a a refreshing change. Whoever is doing Minako is also fine. I don't have any problems with Ami, Artemis or Luna either.
Zoisite's change of gender from male into female was done successfully, aside from the whole suppression of homosexuality thing going on, I didn't think the change was actually as much as a big deal as the fandom made me think. Kunzite and especially Zoisite are incredibly nasty vicious pieces of work, perhaps its for the best that were not many children's first impression of homosexuals, that they could have been. Blessing in disguise, perhaps? Though I prefer male Zoisite. The little photograph of him and Kunzite where neither of they hold each other with absolutely no expression makes me laugh though I don't think thats the intention.
I suppose pronouncing it as Kahnzait rather than Kuhnzait as its supposed to be might cause a bit of concern among parents. Maybe that's why they changed to Malachite.
Beryl's change in personality makes her perhaps a better character even if she's less of a threatening villain now.
Negatives:
Kunzite's voice. Augh, be quiet or at least learn to articulate!! Ghs-e-2jall;sks;l322 SAILOR BRATS! is all I hear
Rei and Usagi have become much much nastier than their original creations. I mean wow, in the Japaense they bicker because they don't want to admit how much each other means to the other but goodness, in the dub they seem to just want to kill each other. Darien, Darian? is also incredible nasty! What is this?
Sometimes they talk about a plot point or discuss something that hasn't really happened yet because of dialogue changes. Everyone seems to be more aware of everything than in the Japanese, I think if I was watching this without the Japanese it could cause me confusion.
Neutral Comments:
The whole Tuxedo Mask ruining all of Kunzite's plans continues to bug me in the dub, but this is the fault of the original Japanese.
Why is Yuuchirou called Chad and why is he a musician. Is it because he has long hair, does that make him Chad the Musician. I'm not saying its a good or bad thing but what was the reasoning for that? Nephrite, Zoisite and Kunzite have long hair too... are they part of his band? |

| Because in ~the 90s~, and because we're supposed to believe Sailor Moon is set in California, ~only~ surfer dudes in bands had long hair. That's the only explanation I could think for why Yuuchirou was given the surfer dude voice.
Come to think of it, I never thought about why they said he was in a band, he was never shown playing any instruments... |

| I like your negative and positives Miki. I prefer Zoisite as male too, but DIC did a good job making him female. You're also right that introducing children to same sex couples should be with a better couple. Besides in my opinion ZoisitexKunzite pair isn't well written. The kids aren't missing anything. |

I LOLed so hard at this. I do agree with you about Beryl. In no way is she threatening, but she has a lot more personality in the English dub than her original counterpart. |

I do agree with you about Beryl. In no way is she threatening, but she has a lot more personality in the English dub than her original counterpart. I think the original season of the Japanese anime was not particularly good at characterization, it got better with later seasons but in comparison to the manga, musicals and PGSM. Many characters till come off as stereotypes or weak personalities. The English dub Beryl also might be TOO considerate of everything. She seems like she'd be really nice if she didn't have all those murderous intentions. |

I hope you're willing to wait three years for the rest of R if you want the true SM dub experience. ;P |
