So I thought of a question (and I don't know if it's been asked before; I searched and it came up with nothing) and I wanted to ask you guys your opinions. I didn't know where to put this question either, so hopefully this'll be the right place XD

Anyway, my question is, since this year was like the 20th anniversary of Sailor Moon, what if they did instead of a re-dub, an entire reboot of the series? Like they create a new Sailor Moon anime and they would keep more faithful to the manga. Would you watch it? Why or why not?

I would because even though I'm still going through the manga, I feel like the manga is (of course) absolutely better than the anime. The art is beautiful and the stories are great. It sucks that the anime didn't stick to the manga in the first place. It's almost like the manga and anime are completely separate from each other with a few similarities. And yeah, even if it was a shorter series, I bet it could still be pretty great. I feel like they should look into doing that (and actually take their time on it). They rebooted FMA for example, so why not Sailor Moon? It was definitely popular enough and there are clearly still plenty of fans that love the show all these years later.

yes. ._. 'cause manga rocked and was pretty. I wouldn't really care if it lasted just 52 episodes (one episode per chapter), or even if they squished two into one, so like a mini series of 26 episodes.

A closer-to-the-manga version of the anime would be awesome. I mean, I love the monster-of-the-day format. I think that should be kept for at least the first arc, but something besides 'Ok, now let's have the bad guys steal this' format would be nice.

I would love a sailor moon remake then we could finally get a good dub here in America. I love the manga and all, but I like the anime better. So it wouldn't bother me if it was closer to the manga or not. The reason why I like the anime is better is the secondary villains were given more depth to the characters like the sisters in R. They also weren't easily killed off. Also I like how in the first season it took longer to unite all the inner senshi. I really liked how Usgai was battling the Dark Kingdom by herself for awhile. It allowed her get use to being a senshi.

The one main thing I would like to see in a remake is a better romance between Mamoru and Usgai. It would be great see the way Mamoru was written in manga in anime form.

Well.. I'm not sure as to whether you know this or not but I am currently working on a fandub. Not only will there be new voices but I am implementing scenes from the Manga and more :3 I would enjoy a remake though. It would be nice considering how far off they went from the Manga in my opinion.

I wouldn't mind a remake that was closer to the manga, but I would want more of a mix of the manga and anime's good points. I thought the manga went by way too fast and barely spent any time on character development; the only characters who seemed to get any development at all were Usagi and Mamoru with a little bit of Chibiusa, as well as Venus if you read Sailor V. I wouldn't want as much filler as the original anime had, but a little bit isn't a bad thing because it allows more characterization- Rei is probably the best example of this. A lot of people don't like how her character was changed for the anime, but I liked it because in the manga she didn't have a personality at all >__< I liked that the anime gave more character development to the Starlights and villains too. It would be nice to include more of the manga-only stuff though, since most of the characters introduced after S weren't even in the anime...

That true,about the character development.

A modern animated remake would be really awesome. I'd imagine it a bit like PGSM where they updated some of the things, like them hanging out at a karaoke parlor and as the base, and also more character development in the style of PGSM. PGSM managed to keep close to manga personalities, but add in more character. While I enjoyed some of the anime's character personalities, like Minako's wacky antics, I also wish they would have focused on the fact that she's hte leader of the Inner Senshi, behind Moon. Also a Stars season thats much closer to the manga would be great. I'd love it.

Unfortunately I don't see it happening, which is unfortunate...because series like DBZ and Fullmetal Alchemist got reboots or remakes. I want my remake too.

With didn't Fullmetal Alchemist had a remake called brother hood,that follows the manga?

Yes, Brotherhood was a remake that stuck closer to the manga.

I really wish they would too. And I definitely like the idea of an updated version, such as with the karaoke parlor (and beautiful artwork). Character development would be awesome as well, along with a story that doesn't fly by too quickly... I wonder why they wouldn't? As I said before, clearly there are plenty of Sailor Moon fans still and I'm sure we're not the only ones that would like a remake of Sailor Moon. Especially with the manga completely finished. It would give companies an excuse to produce new Sailor Moon merch as well (besides what's already out with like say Hot Topic)...it's just more revenue for everyone, including Naoko Takeuchi. It would be a total win-win for everyone.

From what I understand, in japan, sailor moon has kind of come to a standstill. Its revival happened a while back and puttered out due to PGSM. Also, there has been a lot of licensing issues between Naoko and Toei so if it were to happen, I doubt Naoko would bother with Toei again, but they might be also what is preventing a possible anime remake.

Also perhaps Naoko is a bit tired of the series? Like not in a bad way. Its obvious she still loves it, but I think she has also moved on too. At least, I get that feeling. I mean, the Myus were the longest last of all the incarnations of Sailor Moon and that went on a "hiatus" in 2005. Hiatus as in it may not come back.

I wanted to add that it's kind of odd that Toei would base whether or not a re-mastered Sailor Moon would happen based on if the revival of Sailor Moon was popular in Italy. That is just...so random and such a random country o.o was it popular there when the series was revived? And with the reprint of the manga in Japanese, does that mean it's possible that Sailor Moon could be re-mastered and redubbed in English?

As far as Italy goes, it was popular when it originally aired there and its reairing on TV has proven to be quite popular right now. Actually, you'd be surprised how popular Sailor Moon was in other countries like Germany, Italy, and France. I think even more so than in the US during the 90s.

I'm so iffy on the reprints, the American fandom in insane and I fear their extreme nitpicking of Kodansha might drive away any want to bring any thing else Sailor Moon over here. My thing is that, while yes there are some major problems, this is a first run and there is always the possibility of a reprint with corrections. But if people don't support Kodansha then I don't see them bothering to even do that. I wish the fanbase would be more like "WE LOVE IT but hey there are a few issues here..." Instead of "RAWR OMG I HAET U Y U RUIN MAH SAILOR MOON". >.>...

In the past, Funimation has shown interest in a redub of the Sailor Moon anime. I think the problem is actually getting ahold of the licensing to do so. I think Naoko also has her hand in that. But I just don't know how deeply it is. There's a lot of problems that I don't really know the details of with all that. I did read some news that may or may not be hopeful about some promotions in the American licensing side of Toei, apparently some people that had previously worked on the anime before are now in charge of some departments, but that doesn't really mean THAT much. Just a possibility of things to come? Or not to come?




Aaannnd i've totally go way off topic. lol. Toei has already done their rereleasing of the DVDs, remastered (not in the DBZ Kai way, just digitally remastered). However, I would love to see an entire redo of the series a la Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Not really much more to say on that. xD

madoka = bunch of story that it's to much to write here incl lots of massiv spoliers.
sailor moon = episode 1 Usagi becomes a magical girl and fights a random monster and meet tuxedo mask, episode 2 - 7 filler, episode 8 usagi meets ami .. ami becomes a magical girl and they fight a random monster again ....... oh brother -.-

I like that there was space between the girls joining the team in the first season. It gave time for Usagi to get use to her powers. Plus in reality don't you think it would take time to find members for a super hero team?

I'm actually working on an outline for a Sailor Moon anime remake for my own amusement -.o but i think i overdosed on personal influence.... The series is 250 episodes across 20 seasons. The first five series correspond with the regular five series and are much longer than the rest... 30 episodes each, making 150 episodes. the other 100 episodes are made of "miniseries" which match up with the various musical, anime movie and sidearc plots and most of which do not extend over 10 episodes. Inspiration is drawn from all versions and the "arc" thing is rather removed [for example, Vilyui interacts with Eudial, rather than they never being shown in the same part of the series] so its more PGSM-style, with a lack of filler, and when there is filler its usually to develop a character or a relationship.

i'm not a against series that are a "bit longer", i mean the mainseries of Higurashi have 50 episodes, but it's because the story are so complex it dosent have a single filler episode, thats the difference.

well not all filler is bad. >.> I like filler because it can bring development to characters. Like episode two for example in Sailor Moon. I liked how Usagi forgot her transformation phrase. To me that show that episode 2 occurred right after episode one. Usagi probably hasn't had time to soak in what just happened to her.
Plus sailor moon anime I had to have filler so the manga could stay ahead. That happens to a lot of animes. If there was a remake they could get rid all filler seeing how the manga is finished. But I would like to see filler. The good filler not not the bad filler.

most animes? i didnt watch naruto, fairy tale, conan, one piece, bleach and bla bla bla .. i want to see a story not GZSZ-the anime (aired in germany since 1992, i think we have over 5000 or 6000 episodes now xD )

the most anime i like have 12 - 26 episodes, death note (37 episodes) and higurashi (50, if you count the fanservice ovas 60 episodes) are on of the "longer" ones ....

I would, I would love to see Venus have a more active role as the leader in the inner senshi group, I would love to see the other villains under Galaxia's wing come out, and I would love to see the Amazon quartet become the Sailor Quartet. I could go on and on. Oh and I would love to see the wedding too.

I really don't watch long series either. Sailor Moon is the only anime that I will watch 100+ episodes and I am okay with that. I thought it was worth it because I love the characters so much. Today I only watch short series. The highest I will go is 50 to 100 episodes. For example Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood had 64 episodes. That series only had two fillers.

However right now I am making exception for an anime that has 100+ episodes and that's Ranma 1/2. I started that series as a young teenager and I didn't get to finish it. Today I'm trying to watch all the episodes and finish the manga series.

Anyway back on topic. For a remake if they do it closer than the manga it's still going to be long. There is no way they can create 5 arcs under 100 episodes. They will need filler to build up to the climaxes and that's okay. I want tension and suspense to be created. I bet your going to argue me with me Miki because the way you have your series made up.

So would it be 200 episodes long again? I doubt it. It would probably be about 150 episodes long.

Well the 5 normal arcs total 150 episodes X3 30 episodes each... originally they were 20 episodes left.... then 25... then 30 o.o there's just too much going on. In fact there was so much to put in... i forgot to put a Chibiusa episode in Sailor Moon SuperS T.T

I have it planned out, but its always changing and I'm open to ideas... the first series works out something like this. There's a mix of old episodes, new episodes, revised episodes, filler and non-filler and it mixes all four versions of the series. What do you guys think. Suggestions and criticism is welcome. And yes some episodes are extremely similar to the original anime or PGSM's X3 I don't want to change EVERYTHING

I love the episode titles Miki ^^ I like one about Naru. I really wish we got to see how Naru felt about Usagi hanging out with the senshi in the manga and in the anime.

What about the Shitennou though? I see that you mentioned Zoisite a few times. Will they play a bigger role like did in PGSM? I guess you got rid of the romance between Naru and Nephrite. I actually like that pairing. I thought it was cute.

the Shitennou's role is going to be expanded during "Eternal Legend" as well as this series. i think. But I'm not going to divide it into arcs... They're all appear at different times but they'll overlap and interact with each other, like in PGSM. But I think for now I'll keep them as Endymion's soldiers who have sold themselves to Queen Beryl.

I think perhaps Jadeite should appear episodes 1-18, Nephrite 4-19, Zoisite 9-23 and Kunzite 14-29... what do you think? [yes i booted the Naru/Nephrite arc unfortunately T.T]

In R, the thing I wanted to do most was to give Berthier a double episode. In this version, Berthier's self esteem issues are taken a little more extremely. Her plans all revolve around ideas of selfperception and in her appearance she gets yelled at by Usagi for thinking all woman must wear make up in public. [rather than having Usagi yell at a random droid]. She becomes continually depressed throughout the series until she displays a few suicidal tendencies but of course Usagi teaches her that she is indeed beautiful too, and she will be the first purified of the Black Moon Clan -.o for some reason, all the females of the Black Moon Clan don't die but all the men do... Maybe I'm subconsciously sexist?

No Miki the women at Black Moon Clan are more awesome so they deserve to live! I'm glad your keeping that in.
