| I'm not sure if this topic was started before or if this is even in the right section. I was curious to see which people preferred: dub or sub anime? And why? I personally like the sub more than the dub. When I was introduced to the sub, it was strange at first, but I loved it almost immediately after. I like knowing what the original is saying over the modified English version. Also, I don't feel like the dub did a very good job. x.x I was doing a little bit of comparisons this morning and some of it just didn't match. Maybe if they had done a better job I would like the dub...lol. It's nice though nostalgically for me and sometimes it's a bit funny, but overall, I'm not to big of a fan What about you guys? |

| Sub. Now I am not a dub hater. I usually prefer watching dubs over sub because I want to be able to look away from the screen and know what the characters are still saying. It just depends on how well the dub is put together. Back to Sailor Moon. I saw the dub first. I was introduce to it because of Toonami and I loved it dearly. Then in my teenager years I discovered Sailor Moon in Japanese thanks to the Sailor Moon Uncensored website. I was blown away about how different it was from the dub. So now I only watch the dub just for laughs espeically the Dic one because the dialog is so cheesy. XD I will give Dic some credit though. They had good background music and they came up with neat songs. Oh, and I can sing their opening by heart. Also I didn't mind their voice cast. |

| Sub. See, I only got into Sailor Moon about three and a half years ago, so I never had it in my childhood. Actually, I kind of hate the dub. A lot. (However, I DO NOT dislike people who enjoy the dub because I respect their right to enjoy something that I don't happen to like. I'd never make fun of someone for liking the dub). I think the dub did a pretty horrible job. Now, granted, it WAS the 90s and things were a lot different than they are today. I think the biggest problem was that they tried to package Sailor Moon as a show aimed at CHILDREN, while in Japan it was meant to be for all ages. (Again, it's a cultural thing; Japanese children are exposed to a lot more than North American children are). I have a lot of beefs with the dub but I'll just stop here for now XD |

| You know what's sad when I watched the last episode of the first season of Sailor Moon as a kid I knew everyone was dieing. Dic didn't fool me! What's really funny the cartoons I watched expose me to things. Hey Arnold is a good example. I mean they had an episode where the character Helga talked about not being noticed by her family. Oh, also I remember watching Powepuff girls and Bubbles wiped off blood of her mouth. Then there were gross shows like Ahh Real Monsters, Ren and Stempy, and Billy and Mandy. Oh and Rugrats had an episode where a character found out how his mother died. |

| There is an additional thread that examines some of the differences between the Subbed and Dubbed anime here: http://www.thegalaxycauldronforums.com/t153-subbed-to-dubbed-anime-comparison-may-contain-spoilers
I may merge these two topics together. |

| Yah, which is why I am holding off for now. If the topics begin to merge then I will join them. But for now I think they are different enough to stay separated. |

| Oh well that's the thread i was thinking of. I couldn't remember where it was to save my life. lol!
But yes, i think this is more of an opinion thread. So it can stay separate. I don't really mind. ^^
And now for my opinion!
While I do prefer Sub, I do have a small special place in my heart for the dub. But, really the sub wins in all cases and I rarely watch the dub anymore unless I'm nostalaing for my VHSs. xD |

| I looked at that thread. I kind of want to post on it though since I spotted something today while making comparisons, though it hasn't been posted on since summer of last year XD Yeah dub, that has a little place in my heart due to watching Sailor Moon in my childhood. Definitely nostalgia. I feel like though since the dub had to seriously edit certain things, I feel like it's just not as good as the sub. I like the original better. The content and quality is just overall better. Even the voices are better in Japanese! I definitely am not a hater though to those that love/prefer the dub. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion (which I'm curious about). We're all fans either way. Though, as mentioned in the other thread similar to this one, it's like watching two separate shows. |

| I like both the Sub and Dub versions, but when it comes to the Dub version I prefer the Viz Media Dub since I really don't like the DIC and Cloverway Dub. |

| When it comes to Sailor Moon specifically, from first to last in preference, it's the Viz Media dub, Japanese with Subtitles, and way, way, WAY behind is the original DiC dub.
In general, I tend to prefer dubs simply because I don't have the attention span to only watch the screen in order to know what's going on. If I'm watching subs I have to be able to sit and not take my eyes of the screen for a moment. However some anime just has horrible dubs so I either don't watch them or have to watch the sub version. I wish some company would do for Tokyo Mew Mew what Viz has done for Sailor Moon, or what Funimation has done for One Piece. I'd love to see Tokyo Mew Mew get a proper dub. |

YOU ARE NOT ALONE IN THIS FEELING. I'd love to be able to properly buy Tokyo Mew Mew instead of watching my nearing 15 year old fansubs that I downloaded back in the day. ;_; |

| I prefer the sub! Not just for Sailor Moon, but in general. For a lot of people, they prefer dubs because then you don't have to be looking at the screen all the time, but for me its the opposite! My hearing isn't the best, so I'm more likely to miss a line if I'm only listening. (Tho DVDs usually have CCs for the english version aswell) Plus, I love listening for Japanese puns or nuances and seeing how they're translated.
But for Sailor Moon specifically, the original dub... I like it for what it is, as something entertaining, pretty corny, a different version of SM, but as a standalone thing, I don't think it tells the story as well as the Japanese version, and definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking to watch SM for the first time. The Viz dub I can't speak for specifically, since I haven't seen all of it, so my preference for the subs is more due to my general preference. I have liked what I've heard though, so I think it's a good option for people who do prefer dubs in general! |

| Oh dear......the ever famous question, "subbed or dubbed?"
Honestly, this is a question I ask most anime fans I come across XD My personal answer? Subbed, 100%, hands-down. While I did admittedly watch the dub first, and will oftentimes quote it to my sister, I definitely prefer the subbed, simply because the dubbed messed with the storyline WAYYY too much for my liking. |

| In general, I tend to favor subs. I watched American shows with subtitles turned on, so it is not a big deal for me to keep an eye on the screen, and I often get thrown when I hear the pitches of English voices paired with anime images for some reason. Pretty much the only times I watch dubs are when I am cleaning and can't look at the screen or I am watching with friends.
For Sailor Moon specifically, I grew up with the dubs and I can still recite parts of it in English, but I don't think I have actually watched more than an episode or two dubbed in a long time. If I do watch something dubbed, it's the Viz dub - I don't have the originals and I can't say I miss them all that much, especially since I favor subs anyway. |

| For me I think because I watched a lot of other animes in Japanese, I prefer the subs. Not that dubs don't do it justice most of the time, but because to me, it sounds more natural to the anime. |

| Sub is way better. Some of the dub changes are stupid: Uranus and Neptune as cousins, Zoisite and Fish Eye as women... Not to mention that although Usagi is an airhead, Serena is just plain stupid. |

| for me, it's subbed or nothing, most of the time. i like subbed the most because it's the original content. and to be completely honest, i hate the voices for dubbed animes. it always seems super overdone, too dramatized, if that makes sense. |

| For me, it depends on the anime. Like, I love the dub for Utena and it's really faithful to what's being said when you see it in sub. I also love the dub for Spirited Away. FMA's Dub , Tenchi Muyo, Inuyasha and a few others I like are good. The DiC dub for the first -Second season of the 90s Anime Sailor Moon is also one I enjoy. Oh yeah- DBZ. I'm sorry, I love the DB/Z Dub more than anything.
However, I need other things completely subbed. (Like, Bleach, rest of the 90s anime of Sailor Moon, SMC too. A few others.) Mostly because it's distracting to see them try to sync up the mouths.
Though, even though I prefer SMC in sub, I've grown to like the Viz Dub for it.
Soo, yeah, it completely depends on the anime. (like I cannot take Blade the Anime seriously without the english dub.)

| For me it also depends, but I really enjoy dubs. I enjoy hearing the talent and the writing and seeing what the director was thinking. Also given that the dub for Sailor Moon way back in the day is why I got into this forever fandom, it wouldn't make sense for me to deny any sort of love for it. At the same time, as a Japanese major, Subs help me with my Japanese understanding, grammar, and a bunch of other things. So in the end, I really like both for different reasons. |
