| So, after a long drought of not reading manga, I've finally found myself sucked back in thanks to the amazingness that is The Ancient Magus' Bride. I'm fully caught up with everything that's been released, and I'm dying for more! Unfortunately, the magazine it's currently being serialized in is only released once a month, which means output is slow, even more so for the English volumes. Though, at the same time I'm grateful since the lack of rushed weekly deadlines allows for more carefully thought-out character and story development. And those qualities are exactly why I've fallen in love with this series! Every character is fully fleshed-out and complex, and the same can be said for the story itself. I'm so impressed by the way Kore Yamazaki (the author) blends humor, realism, and dark themes so well to make such a compelling story. Another major component of this series that I absolutely love is the art style! I'm pretty picky when it comes to art style, but honestly this is one of my favorites, if not my all-time favorite style. Chise's eyes can get a little bit too big at times in my opinion, especially compared to the other characters, but it's not very often. Otherwise, everything is absolutely gorgeous. I also appreciate the way Yamazaki-san organizes his panels to keep to art and the story flowing. Some of my favorite images (minor spoilers for the beginning of the story and some panels taken out of context from later chapters): - Examples of awesome panel composition:
- Appreciation of Elias' human form:
- I will never get over how cute Elias' chibi skull is:
Have any of you guys read The Ancient Magus' Bride? What did you think? |

| I've been looking forward to finally sitting down to watch the anime version but maybe picking up the manga would be easier! The premise looks awesome. |

| Yay! Another MnY fan! Here are some of my favorite things about this series: - Spoiler :
I think my favorite part about this manga is the world building, and how well thought out the plot is. It's evident that Kori Yamazaki (who is a she, by the way) did a lot of research, and her effort shows in how detailed her world is. I love how she interprets European folklore and myths, as well as how that all fits with the modern world.
I can't say I have a favorite character, but I think two of my favorite are Ruth and Cartaphilus. The latter is probably a bit of a surprise to people, since he's done such cruel and harsh things to people, all for his own selfish sake. But it was a hinted at somewhat early on that he isn't just a one dimensional villain, and later chapters prove that to be correct. I think the level of empathy readers will have for him will definitely vary, but just as far as a villain go, it's not hard to see how he became who he is because of the curse he carries. Ruth is a character I love because while he looks human most of the time, he is still at heart, a dog. He's protective of Chise and loves her unconditionally, but he's always not ruled by human morality, and is willing to look the other way if the death of one person means his master's survival and well being.
My favorite chapter in the manga so far is the star-crossed love between Joel and the Leanansidhe. We were introduced to them a bit early on, initially just as a point of introducing another mythological being in Chise's magical world, but the conclusion to Joel and Leanansidhe's story turned out to be heart-wrenchingly bittersweet.

The anime, IMO, was great, but it does leave out some of the details from the manga due to time constraints. It is a very faithful adaptation though, and there are some scenes that I think the anime out does the manga. |

| I haven't read the manga, but I've been watching the anime on Crunchyroll. Really been enjoying it! I love the mythology and fantasy components. I highly recommend it! |

| I've got the first few volumes, but I haven't gotten around to reading them yet for various reasons. Once I do-it'll be a binge-read though. I've skimmed the first book for what seems like ages in the bookstore before I caved in...and bought all the volumes they had in stock. I can tell it's gonna be good. Once I'm all caught up-I'll add more. |
