| 90's anime fan here, ready to try the manga again! I couldn't get into it much before, but I know I'm missing out on a quite different story line, so I'm willing to give it another go. I might post some of my thoughts here as I go.
Any recommendations as to the best translation out there? |

| If I were you I'd just go buy the volumes hat are out in bookstores right now. The ones published by Kondansha from circa 2011. They have translation notes in the back that are pretty nice. That's just my decidedly non-expert opinion though. (I don't know Japanese so I can't compare.) |

| I would go with the New translation, the old one has some discrepancies that have been corrected. The box sets are a bit pricey, but I do know some libraries in certain cities carry the volumes. Miss Dream, is also a good source, but I always recommend Buying / Renting the actual product, to support the creators. |

| Yeah, I agree with Star about purchasing the official merch. Although, Miss Dream is a wonderful resource if you are strapped for money and can't quite afford it at the moment or something.
Also, I'd like to add that with the english release of the Perfect Edition (called Eternal Edition for us) of the manga coming out later this year, they will be revising the translation to fix errors from the current Kodansha USA translation. I'm not 100% positive if it's a completely new translation or just revised though. Also, the perfect editions will have more colored pages and is in a larger format. They look very pretty! I have the first three on preorder through Amazon cause I'm a bit of a collector when it comes to hte manga. Not super hard core but....I gotta have these. xD

Anyway, feel free to chat here or if you are interested, you can always join the manga club! Now would actually be a good time to join in as we just started Sailor V and you could easily catch up because we are having a hiatus until after the anniversary to start Sailor V vol 2. Then we'll read Short Stories (and then decide to start over from vol 1 or read another Naoko work besides sailor moon but we got time ot think about that xD).
You can find the manga club here: https://www.thegalaxycauldronforums.com/t14516-sailor-moon-manga-club-taking-a-short-break-sailor-v-quiz |

I'm not sure how expensive they are now, but Amazon had the factory-sealed boxsets (vol. 1-6 and vol. 7-12) for $35 each when I purchased mine a couple years ago.

| Thanks, everybody! It seems my local library has the 2011 edition (and the VIZ DVDs, why did I never think to look before?), so I think that's the route I'll take, especially since this is my first foray into the manga... I might end up impressed enough to buy my own copy eventually. |

| Yay! That's so great that you're willing to try again with the manga! No pressure of course - it really isn't everyone's cup of tea ^.~.
I was so stoked when I first discovered the Kodansha volumes in my city's library network!! Miss Dream is usually my last option because the mistakes there I've found sometimes to be worse ^^;;. (I think there's even a speech bubble missing on one page.) Though I still highly appreciate their efforts for fans to make it accessible, I'm glad you can use the official version~.
I will also second Brit's plug for the manga club! The monthly live chats and forum chatter is always interesting and definitely has enhanced my enjoyment of the series this time around! The library should have Sailor V too hopefully! It's a really fun read so if you remember having trouble with the main series, the pace of V might be better for you.
When did you last attempt to pick it up btw? |

| I last tried the manga (volume one online) about two years ago; but I liked the anime better and watched it through, never bothering with the manga. But now, I'd be interested in the alternate story-line, if you will.
The manga club sounds like fun! I never though about reading the Sailor V manga before, but why not? |

| I recommend it! It's more episodic based and you can clearly see where the first season of the anime took inspiration from it. Sailor Moon is more plot driven so things feel fast faced. Sailor V, not so much. I think you'll enjoy it. Plus, I like Naoko's version of her origin. XD |
